For once I am in a fix as to what I have to do with my new Teraano, given the fact that I have purchased the same just by going by the brand value and not having done my home work pretty well and getting the basics wrong.

Myself owns two cars Honda city and Swift VDI( 5 years only). I was in search of descent car with perfect ride quality and descent mileage. Priorities were, Toyota Altis, Fortuner, Innova, Scorpio, Nissan Sunny. Fortunately or unfortunately I got obsessed with the good looks of Terrano. I have also used Nissan Sunny. Finally I booked my vehicle at EVM motors cochin. Took delivery of my new Terrano XL Plus on 22 November 2013 from cochin and that too after having issues regarding the delivery of my vehicle. Finally after getting the Terrano delivered, I have noticed the following:-

      Comparison:

This is a much touted model and I have shelled a few lakhs for the same and the dealer has not shown the courtesy to provide me with mud flaps and mats for this premium vehicle and that too being one of the first customers in Kollam.

Nissan Terrano looks great from outside, but for a 13 lakhs car the interiors and other features are disappointing for the standards of Japanese number 2 car maker and world’s 6th largest car maker. The build quality can be compared to a 6 lakhs vehicle, the glow box and other plastics are worse than the old maruthi 800. Each door makes a different sound when closing. Another issue is when travelling on uneven roads or deep curves on mountain terrain then the steering is not steady and vibrates and bounces unevenly, the with Swift ABS handles it much better.

The micra and sunny has indicator leavers in the right side while the Terrano has it on the right side which is not suited for Indian conditions. When stopping and them moving from signals, traffic jams or on highways you will not be able to indicate as the indicator leaver, headlights flash is on the same side as the gear leaver, you will need a third hand to use the indicator and flash leavers. The console is the same as the Logan.. it is pertinent to note that the wiper and turn signals are not standardized to suit Indian standards. We tend to use more of the wiper than the indicator especially if you have more than one vehicle. It makes all the more difficult to engage the gears while turning on the signals and vie versa which in turn increases the risks of accidents and jeopardize the safety of the driver as well as that of the passenger. Flashing of the headlight during an emergency is much of a problem when you are changing gears.
Standard 5 wheel rotation cannot be done as even the full option model of 85 bhp does not have alloys spare wheel, in case you change your spare wheel then your vehicle will look like a handicap with 3 alloys and one normal tyre. Note the spare wheel has a different set of screws, beware not to loose them and to check each time when you give it to the service centre.

      Handling charges:

Another thing I have notices and something that I am going to fight is the handling charges collected from me amounting to Rs. 10,000/- which tantamount to contempt to court as the Hon’ble Supreme Courts has in no uncertain way declared that how such thing as handling / logistics charges are to be levied from the customer by an dealer thought out the length and breadth of India. The Verna has handling charges of Rs. 2500/- Fortuner has 6450/-, Terrano cochin dealer 10000/-, Trivandrum dealer Rs. 8000/- . The ex-showroom price is the MRP of the Vehicle and apart from the commissions they get from Nissan they are charging an additional amount as per their wish. Note : Insurance and Road tax was paid by me directly.

      Cutting Costs:

Another way to cut down cost is reduce number of horns. Even wagon R and swifts come with dual horns. Nissan terrano comes with single horn which is not enough to handle indian driving scenarios. No mud flap or floor mat for a premium SUV. They could have provided minimum accessories at least. Rear view mirrors could have been better, even side mirrors could have been improved. What Nissan did with the Terrrano is to rebadged the duster without putting its standards in place, to make a few quick bucks with its brand name. Nissan being the 2nd largest car maker in Japan should have not done it.

      Customer Care:

The worst of its kind which i have come across, they don’t register a complaint via phone unless you insist, after sending a email you need to follow up requesting them to read the mail and relpy to that at least a few times. Even when you buy an Alto we get a 5 star customer care from maruthi, compared to that its not worth investing on a car with such poor customer care.
Now if you are buying a Terrano only if outer looks matter then its okay, if you need customer care and quality then think again.

Bought a new Terrano 85 PS Top end model in the month of September 2014. I always liked the looks of the Terrano when compared to the Duster and you can easily make out the difference in the quality of plastic used betwen a Terrano and a Duster.

Was a bit skeptical on moving from a small hatchback to an SUV and from petrol to Diesel but one test drive of the Terrano was all it took the decide and i was more than happy with the car.

I was really happy with the overall buying experience with Surya Nissan dealer, bangalore eventhough i had read a lots of negative reviews about them. I'm sure they have worked on their negative reviews.

Immediately after the car delivery i went on a 3 day vacation to chikmagalur with my family and really enjoyed driving this car. Be it the wonderful highway between Bangalore and Hassan or the literally non-existent roads to the homestay where we stayed , the Terrano never complained. The overall driving experience so far has been fabulous and if you ask me was it worth the extra 30-40k spent compared to Duster ?? I bet it was!!

      Exterior:

Stylish exterior. Need to be a little careful while driving in  a crowded street and keep in mind the extra bulge of the wheel arcs/hubs or whatever its called.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Features: Needs lot of improvement. Would atleast expect a climate control and steering mounted controls when spending 13+ lakhs.

Space: I'm 6 feet tall and even after pushing the drivers seat back my mom was able to comfotably sit in the back seat with enough space between her legs and the front seat.

Comfort: Needless to say it's very comfortable and the outdoor noise is almost nil even when you are driving at over 110KMPH.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine Performance & Gearbox: I felt the 2nd gear is a little sluggish till it hits certain RPM especially since i upgradedf from a petrol car i felt this a bit annoying. But once a certain RPM crosses it's a "Smooth Operator"

Fuel Economy: I covered around 800Kms and the onboard computer shows the mileage to be around 16.5 KMPL. I'm sure it would vary after the first service.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Ride Quality: Outstanding. No bad roads are bad enough for the Terrano especially with the 16" alloys

Handling: No problems with the handling at all. Be it bumper to bumper traffic or the highway maneouvers

      Final Words

I would request people buying a duster to just have a test drive of Terrano before making a decision. You are sure to get into a dilemma :)

Exterior Terrano looks very attractive when compared to Duster. It might be the fact that Nissan has tried to show that terrano is superior to Duster with increased price. As far looks are concerned, the the increased price is worth.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) But inner looks are very common. The comfort is important when you spend 13.50 lacs. The NO mark you will find more in a coloumn of features they offer. So the question is why they fix such a high price which is beyond the limit of middle class man. the space is good, which you can also find in any car below 8 lacs. Just we call terrano SUV is a difference.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox This SUV is fuel economic, when you take the claim of Nissan into consideration. But users experience is somewhat disappointing. You can notice the vehicle makes noise simply standing out. Even better engine technology than Dci could have been provided.

Ride Quality & Handling Excellent when you sit on driving sean more pleasure can be found.

Final Words Very good SUV than Duster, ecosport but either price could habe been reduced or more features been provided.

Areas of improvement Interior, engine technology.

Better looks outsideVery common looks inside

      Exterior: Awesome.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): As per the standards of Nissan it is below average kind of interior, but boot space is nice.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: Performace is pretty good, Fuel economy is bearable, Gearbox need to check on it yet. But no sign of any issues or sounds much yet.

Ride Quality & Handling: Should say in corners it is not as good as Ertiga or Duster.

Final Words: For a new buyer, it is one of the worst executive service which we receive in the show room in Bangalore MG Road branch. They don't even care to give us a small demo on it worst part is they said they don't have quotation to give now it seems and said they gonna mail us back. We didn't heared till now.

Areas of improvement :A better demo on the vehicle who ever comes for first look would help a new buyer. Interior Plastic Quality: It should reach Nissan brand standards keeping price in mind.

Good Looks, good Fuel Economy, Good boot space tooBad interior quality & Worst support in showrooms for a new buyer

Exterior One of the best SUV in this category available in Indian car market for look and style. Of course it’s replica of Renault Duster still Terrano is more muscular and majestic.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Terrano can easily fit 5 people without any space compromise. Seats are broad to give good thigh support for long drives and seats are in good height level for road visibility and increasing confident level of driving. Suspension of the Terrano is also surprisingly too good we won’t bother when crossing speed humps and potholes.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox We bought XL Plus 85 PS diesel variant which deliver enough power with full load even in hill roads. I drove my terrano in all conditions like city roads, highway and hill area around 250 km with AC and I got 18 km mileage in average which is very impressive like this kind of solid built SUV. Nissan can improve the gear shift quality for Terrano.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality of Terrano is really delightful as well handling too it gives lots of confidence while driving on highway.

Final Words I am very proud to be owner of this Japanese brand SUV.  I am sure you won’t get disappointed if you decided to go with Terrano. Nissan name it as Terrano Yes it’s true once you get into the SUV you will say “Terror “NO.

Areas of improvement Nissan can improve the gear shift quality for Terrano. It’s not that much smooth when compared to ecosport.

Road presence, solid build quality, mileage, air conditioning system, 16 inch machined alloy wheelscan be improved gear shift quality

Exterior This car really stands out from its brother, the Renault Duster. It's much better and classy looking that the Duster. The Nissan front grill and dual headlamps do give it that extra touch and the rear lights do suit the car very well.

Interior The Interior of the Terrano is very nice. The plastic feels very coarse and classy while the leather wrapped steering gives you a premium feel. The only thing missing are the steering mounted controls. The Touch Screen Nav system for an extra cost of Rs 55,000 is definately worth it. The leg room of the Terrano is World Class and it's very well suited for Indian roads in terms of long journies.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The Engine of the Terrano is very responsive, although I have the 85 PS version, the moment I step on the accelerator, the car just gets to 120+ km/h. This is very nice for a heavy car like the Terrano. The average Fuel Economy (according to the digital computer) is about 15-17 km/l which is very nice since I drive in the city.

Ride Quality & Handling The Terrano will go on the worst roads and make you feel like your napping at home. The car doesn't viabrate on rough roads. The handling is very smooth. You can take turns at 80 km/h without disturbing your passengers.

Final Words This car is an absolute winner in all spheres exept the 3 lakh price gap from the Renault Duster.

Areas of improvement Only the On steering Controls.

Good looks, Epic Milage, Safety FeaturesNo steering mounted controls.
