Mitsubishi stops Cedia production

Mitsubishi has stopped production of the Cedia, making it officially an all-SUV manufacturer in India. The Japanese company had confirmed some time ago that it will not be bringing any of its small cars like the Colt or Mirage to India. 

The Mitsubishi India range now consists of the Outlander, Pajero Sport and the Montero. The 2013 Outlander should be available with a diesel option, making it more viable an option for those loyal to the brand.

The reasons behind the company's decision aren't hard to deduce: the Cedia as we know it had stopped production in other markets around the world quite a few years ago. Sales of the sedan haven't exactly sets the sales charts on fire, either. The introduction of a small car would have meant infusion of money, and lots of it - a small car will include investments in vendor development, a line in the factory, training for assembly workers and service technicians, marketing... With the kind of service footprint that Mitsubishi currently has in India, the exercise may not offer returns very quickly, and the company isn't in the pink of financial health globally, so they are focusing on their strongest brands and the market demands: the SUV segment. 

If you're a fan of the Cedia and would like one new, this is the right time to rush to the nearest Mitsubishi showroom to book a Cedia. Remember to haggle and get great discounts: however, we cannot predict what the spares availability and pricing will be like, so this is still one car we'll recommend to fans of the brand rather than the common man.
