Maruti Suzuki crosses 20 million production milestone

-   Maruti Suzuki becomes the first carmaker to produce two crore vehicles in India.

-   The two production facilities are in Gurugram and Manesar.

-   This production milestone comes after 34 years and 6 months since the start of production in December 1983.

Maruti Suzuki has achieved yet another milestone in India, producing 20 million (two crore) vehicles in the country. The Indo-Japanese carmaker took 34 years and 6 months to cross the two crore production mark since the start of production in December 1983 at the Gurugram plant. 

It took the carmaker nearly a decade to achieve the first ten lakh production mark which was achieved in March of 1994. The fifty lakh milestone was achieved in the next nine years in the month of April in 2005. Just six years later, the one crore production mark was hit in the March of 2011. After which, the 1.5 crore units were produced in May 2015. Now, the jump to two crore production milestone took just 38 months.

Maruti Suzuki is the biggest carmaker in India accounting for more than 50 per cent of the market share. Of the 20 million units produced in the country, 14.37 million vehicles are manufactured in Gurugram, while 5.62 million vehicles are rolled out from the Manesar facility. Maruti Suzuki exports the vehicles manufactured in India to more than 100 countries in Europe, Japan, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
