Maruti Suzuki Alto, the country’s highest selling production car is now available with a fresh set of safety and feature upgrades. Mechanically, the vehicle continues to be powered by the existing 800cc engine, however, it now complies with the BSVI norms which are going to be mandated next year. Here below are the highs and lows of buying the new Maruti Suzuki Alto.
What’s good about it?
The new Alto gets a beefier styling update with redesigned bumpers and tweaked side fender. As for the interior, it gets a dual tone theme along with a newly designed dashboard for freshness. The new Alto now also gets standard safety features like reverse parking sensor, driver airbag, speed alert system and seat belt reminder for both driver and the co-driver, and ABS with EBD. Moreover, the company claims that the vehicle also complies with the upcoming crash and pedestrian safety regulation. The company further claims that the new Alto meets the End of Life Vehicles (ELV) obligations, which means that the New Alto is over 95 per cent recoverable and 85 per cent recyclable.
What’s not so good?
The new Alto only offers a driver side airbag as standard. The co-passenger airbag is optional in the entry-level Standard and the LXI variants of the Alto. A co-passenger front airbag as standard would have further strengthened its competition in the segment.
Best variant to buy?
The top spec Alto VXI variant is a good option as it offers front passenger airbag as standard along with convenience features like remote keyless entry, audio (with USB, AUX-in and Radio), two front speakers and more.
