2015 MB C-Class recalled for power steering failure in the US

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for their C-Class saloons in the United States, related to a problem in the car’s power steering.

Mercedes-Benz admitted that they have identified a total of 28,452 C-Class saloons that have been affected. The models acknowledged to have the concern are the 2015 C300 4Matic and the 2015 C400 4Matic saloons that have rolled off the production line between 27th January 2014 and 1st December 2014.

The car maker has exposed an error in the electric power steering control software that could get the affected vehicles to suffer a loss of electric power steering assist. If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds which could increase the risk of a vehicle crash. No injuries have been reported as of now and a company spokesman said, “Customers may continue to drive their vehicles until the software update has been completed at an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer." Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners, and dealers will update the power steering software at no charge in January 2016.

Mercedes had previously recalled the 2015 C300 4Matic and 2015 C400 4Matic in March 2015 to correct two problems with the fuel delivery module on 3,039 cars in the US. Mercedes-Benz does not sell the C300 and C400 saloons here in India.
