Maruti Suzuki Indial Limited (MSIL), the once upon a time publicly listed company in India, is the largest automobile manufacturer in South Asia. Earlier known as Maruti Udyog Limited till 2007, the company was responsible for the automobile revolution in India. Though the company was formed in 1981, the production of its first car the Maruti 800 started off in 1983. The company spread its wings throughout the country so much so that they had Maruti service stations across the country.
Maruti''s manufacturing units are located in gurgaon and Manesar, south of Delhi. Maruti Suzuki''s Gurgaon facility has an installed capacity of 350,000 units per annum. The Manesar facilities, launched in February 2007, comprise a vehicle assembly plant with a capacity of 100,000 units per annum. There also is a diesel engine plant which has an annual capacity of 100,000 engines and transmissions. The Manesar and Gurgaon facilities have a combined capacity to produce over 700,000 units annually.
The company has competitors but it has made its place in the hearts of the Indian crowd by offering some excellent services and has firmly grounded its feet in the Indian Car Market. Maruti Suzuki now offers 15 models, Maruti 800, Alto, WagonR, Estilo, A-star, Ritz, Swift, Swift DZire, SX4, Omni, Eeco, Gypsy, Grand Vitara. Swift, Swift DZire, A-star and SX4 are manufactured in Manesar, Grand Vitara is imported from Japan as a completely built unit (CBU), remaining all models are manufactured in Maruti Suzuki''s Gurgaon Plant. The company is on its way to bring the K series engine by first introducing the Alto K-10 and then Kizashi does look to be in the pipeline.
As part of its corporate social responsibility Maruti Suzuki launched the Maruti Driving School in Delhi. Later the services were extended to other cities of India as well. These schools are modelled on international standards, where learners go through classroom and practical sessions. Besides this, the company also offers finance and Insurance options to their customers.
