Mahindra Renault Logan is awaited. Those who are interested to see a preview of what a Logan will look like, they can check out the Renault web site which I think is http://www.renault.com.
At the same time, I request Mahindra Renault to release more details of their car and proposed launch date so that prospective buyers may take a decision to wait or not.
The one point that concerns me is the after-sales-service. If that is not upto the mark, then the car may not be successful.

The Logan is based on the B platform that is used by the third generation Renault Clio, Renault Modus and the latest version of the Nissan Micra. It has 50% fewer parts than a high-end Renault vehicle and has a limited number of electronic devices. In addition to making the car less costly to produce, this also makes it easier and cheaper to repair. As with many low-cost vehicles, a large amount of soundproofing was omitted, meaning that road vibrations, engine sound and wind noise are noticeable for the passengers.

Some parts are also much simpler than those of its competitors. For example, rear-view mirrors are symmetrical and can be used on either sides of the car, the windshield is flatter than usual, and the dashboard is a single injection-molded piece.

The developers have taken into account several differences between road and climate conditions in developed and developing countries. The Logan suspension is soft and strong, and the chassis sits visibly higher than most other superminis to help it negotiate dirt roads and potholes on ill-maintaned asphalt roads. The engine is specially prepared to handle lower quality fuel, whereas the air conditioning is powerful enough to lower temperature several degrees (above 40ºC are common in the Middle East and Mediterranean Sea).

In June 2005 the car achieved a 3 star rating at the EuroNCAP crash tests, lower than most other cars of it’s age. This result confirms initial expectations stated earlier by Renault.

In July 2005, a “Fahrdynamik-Test” (similar to an elk-test, but not identical)conducted by the German ADAC claimed that the lack of an Electronic Stability Program by Dacia Logan makes it roll over when braking in turns while at 65 km/h. More pictures here. Later that month, the Romanian version of Top Gear claimed to have repeated the elk test and, according to the results published on their website, the Logan passed the test at speeds of 72 km/h, 84 km/h and 87 km/h. Article in Romanian [2]. However, it should be noted that the test performed by Top Gear was a standard elk-test, while the “Fahrdynamik-Test” performed the by the ADAC was quite different. Top Gear falsely claimed that the test was identical to the one performed by the ADAC. Later, on September 9, ADAC published the results of further incident investigation, showing that the rollover was actually caused by faulty tires and not by improper car design. It was later admitted by the German testers that the car failed after an unusual number of elk tests that had worn down the tires of the test car.

In majority of markets where Renault has already a presence, like in European, African and Asian countries (such as Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Morocco, Lebanon, Syria and many others) it is sold as the Dacia Logan.[1] Exceptions are Russia, Iran, China, Colombia, Africa and Venezuela where it is marketed as the Renault Logan. The Logan is vital to increasing sales of the Renault group to the 4 million mark by 2010. In India, the car’s first right hand drive market, the Logan will be marketed under the “Mahindra” brand name; Renault will partner with Indian utility and commercial vehicles manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.

The car is for sale in developing countries where the population has a lower purchasing power than in developed countries. Since 2006, Iran has also began manufacturing Logan models via Pars Khodro.[3]

Dacia have plans to produce CKD versions for assembly in various target markets.

Production began with a 4-door sedan, followed by a wagon in September 2006. Four other models, including a pickup truck and hatchback are to follow, starting in 2007 with a light commercial model.

The factory is somewhat unique for a volume manufacturer in that it uses no robots. The low wages in Romania means that the car would actually become more expensive if they would switch to using robots instead of humans. The factory employs 12532 workers at an average salary of â?¬ 360 a month [5].

I think Mahindra should clear the date and the price range of the car. Many Indian switch to a new car after the budget.
Many of them like to upgrade from a non ac to ac car. A sedan can be good choice as now days the finance is easy.
If mahindrta delay the clarification then I think they will loose the ground they are building.
I feel the launch should be in first week of march by all means. They can start with one or two versions, so that they can capitalise the response to the car ads coming at present.

Hi, Looking at the features one feels that this car would stand out in its segament. However as one reader has written if this car comes with a company fitted CNG kit the fuel problem is also resolved and the car would become a instant hit. My suggestion to the makers is that in case they decide to launch a CNG fitted car they must keep both fuel option in mind ie to have a big enough tank for petrol / diesel and a CNG tank well fitted in the boot reducing the 510L boot size to 250L.

Good Interiors, better sound proofing from road noise and enjine noise(specially in the Diesel Version), added features like ABS, aggressive pricing will make this car an overall winner.

dear friends,
indian manufaturers are known to give stripped versions and old /previous generation technology.
we are guinea pigs, indian companies thinks we dont qualify for air bags, abs, ebd as standard fitments. even when provided it is an option in higher version only.some times only driver side airbag is provided.
there is news that the diesel version would be fitted with 2 nd generation CRDI engine, we dont know whether it would pass EURO iv standards.it may be a cheaper car for sale but the company should not show cheapness in construction and quality.
its pedestrian safety is very very poor.
driver/ passenger safety in frontal and side imapcts are also not great. tests shows that is gives excess chest pressures even in side impacts.
renault web site does not mention computer bits 16 or 32
refinement in engine is the probably deciding factor in its would be market share.otherwise it may become another indigo- its going but shame on our abilities.
please please avoid blue interiors, use warm shades

New Renault Logan may flip easily. is reporting that ADAC of Germany, one of Europe’s biggest automobile clubs, was able to flip one of Renault’s new Logan budget cars during a sudden avoidance maneuver at only 40 mph. What’s more shocking is that the drivers’ side A-pillar caved in when the car rolled onto its roof. While the car did lack electronic stability technology, others cars without this safety feature merely slid in previous tests. A Renault UK spokesman, however, has dismissed the incident saying that the car had already passed the test twice but was fitted with a wrong tire after one was punctured, which evidently led to these shocking pictures. Even if that were the case, the collapse of the A-pillar is still a serious issue that Renault should investigate before the car goes on sale.

Witnesses have stated that the car was fitted with worn tyres, one of which was the smaller spare tyre. ADAC have removed both the article and the photos from their website. It seems the Germans wanted payback for the Mercedes A-Class disaster: that car didn’t manage to pass the elk-test either, and it still isn’t clear whether that car was put it on its roof on purpose.

I am damn sure that logan will wipeoff particularly tata indigo in diesel segment. Hope mahindra would have done a good homework and exercise to bring indian version of dacia to compete the indian market. Off Logan / Indigo / Ford Fiesta / Ikon / Swift etc …. which is better & true value for the money.
My running per month would be around 600 - 800 km. We are a family of 3 members. Can spend up to 5 lakhs.

Logan looks good to me… is it real worth. What about the after sales & sevice. Is the maintenance cost going to be very high.

Disspointed with the variants launched.
1. No variant in 1.4L with power windows, central lock , defogger etc.
2. No option (only one variant) in 1.6L.
3. Only two colour option in GL and GLE (should have at least most common silver colour).
4.Big gap between 1.4L GLE and 1.6L GLS. No variants competes with Esteem Vxi Or Ikon Flair as GLS is expensive( Rs60,000 than esteem VXi and Rs 80,000 than Ikon on road). Should have GLS in 1.4L segment to fill the gap.
5. GLE(1.4L) Should have at least front power windows (May be with some more price). A gap of Rs44,000/- between GL and GLE only for power steering is not worth.

Hi…persons who are looking for a practical,spacious, no nonsense, value for money car, you must go in for Logan - Autocar has given the verdict recently for logan - 4 Star rating to match with verna, fiesta rating. You just cant compare logan to Ikon or esteem or accent, as these cars are getting dated. You have a clear 50k saving compared to fiesta. You get almost everything in 1.6 petrol except electrically operated rear mirror and remote boot opening. The drive is class of its own. Interiors are not posh as that of accent or fiesta but much bearable. Looks might not make people turn their heads but this can be overcome with huge spacing, quality drive and value for money. Overall a value for money car.

Hi,
I have test driven petrol as well as diesel high end version. if there is one USP - it is Space! However there are many points that leave you with a feeling of riding a ‘cheap’ sedan:
1. Basic interiors give you feel of cheap plastic
2. Very weak AC (I drove in right at noon in Mumbai heat)
3. Distributed controls all over the cabin to complicate driving. Not recommended for your spouse!
4. Whistle like belt noise coming from the diesel model (even when its new!) I wonder what would happen when its old.
5. Very hard gears
6. Weak / no sound proofing that gives you a lot of cabin noise. Uncomfortable for a long distance drive

To sum up, its a left hand drive car with steering on right hand side. Looks like very little thought has been given to design as well other basic factors. Go ahead if you are clear that you want space. At 7.5 L, I would not settle for it…

I was eagerly waiting for a right sedan for my need - economic , powerful, spacious , good to look at . I took test drive of Honda City , Fiesta , Verna and recently Logan. No deisel model available in City , it is costly too. Verna has space , power but did not suit my budget , there were many negative feed back by critics on net too. Feista could pacify many of my needs but it was not spacious enough for five and is expensive too. Till I took test drive of Logan , Fiesta was my selection .
But Logan could fulfil my requirements . I found it spacious for passengers and luggauge , powerful, good dash board . Vibration and noise were under control . AC at max. fan speed made little noise but was effective .In side color combination was pleasing . Price seams to be OK though in foreign nations where this car is running for years Logan is much cheap . I have not checked but hope the car will give 1000KM in a tank full on highway .Ride was confortable , small road pot holes could not be felt . Drivability was very good - (4 marks out of 5). There are some negative side as no inside trunk opening , mechanical mirror adjustment , no central arm rest but they can be digested looking at the price .
I have booked one and waiting for delivery .

I was one of the first bookings of the logan although the dealer in mumbai N.B.S International constantly is postponing the delivery of the car. They dont really have a valid explaination as to why they cannot give me the car. My finance cheques have reached their office since a week and my interest has started. So as of now i think that i might have made a mistake in buying a car that is not tried and tested on Indian roads. We booked the car based on mahindra’s trust but i am truly shocked at such unprofessionalism from the company dealers.
Hope someone reads this and does something about this because i dont knowwhat to make of this.

Mahindra Renault Logan scores high with an 18kmpl for diesel and 13kmpl for petrol.

Hi All,
Mahindra Renault Logan is the best car I drove in past three year in this cost. I really give 100% to people who wanted to buy Diesel car and also Big size car at this price.

I really would wish if Mahindra Renault Logan - Diesel would be sold at on Road price of 6-6.5 lacs for high end version, it would be India’s highest selling car in 6months for sure. Where as on road price come upto 7.6 lacs for high end which is not worth for new launched car from Mahindra tied up with Renault.

Until Mahindra get their BRAND name in CAR, they cannot launch new car at so huge price atleast in the begining. As rest all competitor would take huge leap in this time.

Maruti Swift Diesel, the huge vibrating car when we drove more than 60KM but as its Big car and cheapest in market, they took the advantage. Which the car dont worth it, but Swift Petrol, it worth it.

I guess now TATA is in lead in this segment of CAR with their new launch TATA INDIGO FACELIFT - LX TDI and DICOR, which is coming at throw away price of 6.2 - 6.6 lacs. Which give luxury of Big car, Diesel, good mileage at this price. If they dont like shaking Swift Diesel with long waiting period.

I wish Mahindra Renault Logan - Diesel high end comes at 1 lacs less price than current, the scenario could change. With more better service center around cities of India.

Dear Friends,

Last time I visited India, I brought Mahendra Scorpio for my family and I enjoyed its features and ride and I expected something similar when Mahendra announced the launch of Mahendra Renault Logan but I was disappointed with what I found about Mahendra Renault Logan.

Here are are some of the things that you should compare while trying to go for this new car from Mahendra called Logan with collaboration with Renault S.A. which is a French vehicle manufacturer producing cars, vans, buses, tractors, and trucks. The company is well known for numerous revolutionary designs, security technologies and motor racing..

The price of fully loaded Renault Logan in Europe is Eur 5000 (USD 6105)i.e., Rs. 2 Lakh 47 thousand (INR 246,997) But in India Basic model of Mahendra Renault Logan starts at Rs.4 Lakh 28 thousand (INR 427,950) which is basic drill down model which does not contain most of standard features of European standard model.

Mahendra Renault Logan does not have all accessories that are present in original Renault Logan standard model, All Renault Logan models receive frontal airbags and three-point seat belts for occupants, while ABS with brakeforce distribution is standard for the 1.6 liter and optional for the 1.4.

But in Indian Mahendra Renault Logan ABS is not present and Airbags are present only in GLS/DLS models.

Here are the main basic features which Mahendra Renault Logan is missing:

1. Theater dimming interior lights with courtesy delay &
Individual light for driver & front passenger is only present in GLS/DLS models, whereas these features are standard in all European models of Logan.

2.Lumbar Support is present in only GLS/DLS models which is basic standard European model of Logan

3.Glove box light is only present in GLS/DLS which is basic feature in European models.

4.Trunk room light is only present in GLX/DLX, GLS/DLS models, I dont understand what it will take for them to include this feature in GL/GLE/DLE models???

5. power windows is only present in GLX/DLX, GLS/DLS models, which is basic standard features in original Logan.

6.Single CD Player with stereo with 4 speakers is only present in GLS/DLS models. what it will take for them to include this all other models , it hardly costs Rs.4000.

7.Manual Driver’s seat height adjuster is only present in GLS/DLS models, which is a basic standard feature in original models.

8.Rear defogger, Remote Door Locking, Remote Door Locking only present in GLS/DLS models.

9.Central locking is only present in GLX/DLX, GLS/DLS models.

10. Full wheel covers are only present in GLS/DLS models which should be a basic feature.

11. Front fog lamps with clear lens are only present in GLS/DLS models which should be a basic feature.

12.Body colored door handles, Body colored side view mirrors are only present in GLS/DLS models which should be a basic feature.

13.Adjustable Rear seat head restraints & Adjustable front Seat Belts are only present in GLS/DLS models

14.Door open warning light on IC is only present in GLS/DLS models.

If Mahendra is looking to capture Indian market with these features I guess they are lacking the market capturing strategy. The above mentioned accessories which are very basic in Europe, North America and other developing countries. I don’t understand why Indian car makers are trying to think that these things should included only in top end models, it shows their lacking and cheap marketing strategy and what special and different kind of car does Mahendra is offering to Indian markets? See Maruti Suzuki Swift, its available with full loaded features for around Rs.4.2 lacs.

This would be my message to Mahendra Management if anyone ask my opinion or comments:

“Wakeup! Mahendra and try to bring something which none is offering…offer something with above basic features at least, then only you can capture Indain markets, if not you will be left far behind like and can happen, like what happened with Fiat”.

So friends, think twice before you buy this car from Mahendra at least for now until they fix these things..

I purchased Logan top model diesel on 2nd June .Let me share some of good & bad points about it .
Plus points- Lots of cabin room & leg space , enough power for city ride ( I have yet to take it on high way for long ride ) , big boot , comfortable stearing , good average - 16 KMPL in Delhi daily commuting , tough body , Comfortable seats , effective AC, ease in parking ( shorter length and power stearing helps) .
Negative points- drivers left foot tires as there is no space for resting it when not in use on clutch , clutch is hard, clutch travel is long and painful , entry in the driver’s seat not very comfortable , no boot release from in side of cabin , driver has to lean to know positions of AC regulation switches .

But overall a good sedan .

I checked out on all the middle segment cars with Common Rail diesel engines and booked a Logan - Diesel. The reasons are

1 It is the cheapest of the lot and exposes the other cars in some fundamental areas of pricing.

2 Inspite of being the cheapest it has the largest space inside and the boot is real big

3 It comes with a 5 year warrenty on bottom perfortaion and has a built in immobilizer - and they don’t do a lot of ho-ha over it…as some other cars do

4 The structure of the car (I test drove over several bumps at variable speeds and different gears) lives upto the Mahindra fame - it is sturdy

5 I drove the car for long at low speeds and 2nd and 3rd gear - since I am buying it for city drive - it is excellent and ranks on top of the segment

6 Since I am a city driver with occassional travels to the outskirts, I did not check the high speed performance since I did nearly an hour’s drive in Mumbai and you rarely get a chance to drive at high speeds in a city. But the couple of times I pulled in 5th gear, it did not allow me to suspect a deficiency.

7 It has a few problems like the boot dosen’t open from the drivers control, you need to open it with the key and the wiper and light keys are on the opposite sides…but one gets used to these things while using a car…they are very small adjustments for the price you pay for this car. The Clutch and Gears - I found to be tight and expect them to ease with use.

8 As I test drove it, I can not say with certainity about the fuel efficiency, but I rely on the CRD engine, that is supposed to be Fuel Efficient and I don’t know of any CRD car of middle segment that gives leass than 15 KM. One of the Logan (diesel) owners, I know, claims to get around 18 to a litre.

9 I also relied on the Mahindra experience and fame of knowing Indian roads and building for them. My study of the Logan Engine led me to understand the it is from a Rumanian (CIDIA) company acquired by Renault, that makes me believ that the engine may not be very stylist but will be rugged.

10 Overall, I feel that at the price, if one is looking for a big car, with down to earth utility without too many frills and without a boyish infatuation for pick up and speed - this is the car of India.

Sir, I had compaired between Indogo XL Classic and Logan. Indigo XL Classic is some 30-40 thousand cheaper than logan. although it is very specious from inside (rear seats)with console AC and all those features which Logan (fully loaded) have (other than music system). Average claimed by both the company’s dealer is 20+. I am looking to purchase a car this week. Kindly let me know your suggestion.

Logan can not be compaired with Ford Fiesta. Fiesta is much supeiror in quality & stability. I have observed vibrations to gear changing handle of Logan (on petrol car). AC flaps are very cheap quality. Front dashboard quality is very poor. Biger size of wiper mechanism damages the front look of Logan.

There is no comparison with Fiesta. Yes it can be compaired with Indigo.

JUST TO ADD ON ( EXTRACTS OF THE COMPLAINT)

PARTICULARS OF COMPLAINT

I had placed an order for the purchase of Renault Logan 1.5 dlx,f.black from the local dealer, T.V. Sundaram Iyengar &sons limited,N.H.byepass maradu-682304 on 13/9/07 by paying an advance of Rs 10,000.they had promised me to hand over the vehicle on 15/9/07by 3.p.m.I had given a pay order from S.B.I for Rs 6 lakhs ,and a sum amounting to Rs 48,300 on 14/9/07,balance of Rs 10,750 was paid before 11’o clock on 15/9/07.As per their advice I have been there by 3.p.m
On 15/9/07 to take delivery of the vehicle ,even after waiting upto 6.p.m they couldn’t register and number wasn’t allotted .I have understood that this was the mistake on the part of the manufacturer, to produce a letter from ARA to transport commissioner KERALA to register the vehicle .This problem had happened for the petrol version of LOGAN and they produced such a letter and got the vehicle registered without difficulty .This problem should have been anticipated for the diesel version and if it was done I could have got the vehicle registered on the same day.

I had informed this matter to the toll free number and my complaint was registered and my complaint number is GI17/0044.Apart from this I had personally sent a mail to MORYE.SUBODH@mahindra.com as well as other
concerned people in Mahindra.

They had instructed the Cochin Mahindra officials to do the needful. I had contacted over the phone zonal manager Chennai, named SELVAM but there was no immediate resolution to the matter. Mean while they had arranged for an alternate car for my local conveyance were I had to put the diesel. It took 10 days nearly to get the vehicle registered after paying the entire amount of Rs 6,58,000 by 15/9/07 I had to wait till 24/9/07 for the registration to happen .This is a clear negligence from both T.V.S as well as MAHINDRA.

Again when the car was delivered to me it was in a stock yard condition rather than show room condition .If the so called PDI was followed this would have been avoided .The entire body surface of the car was rough including the glasses
And also a dent on the rear right side near to the handle .This was rectified after two days.This clearly shows the negligence of T.V.S.

i have a plan to purchase a new car shortly.i have two cars in my mind . one is mahendra logan and the other one is swift diesal.in terms of size and milage i am more intrested in logan but my coligues are saying the resale value will be very less, the future of logan will be like pegeot 309 and also since the same is being dealt by tvs, which is known for poor service and also i see less number of logan on these days i am a bit apprehensive about logan.
swift diesal though good in features, small in size and the waiting time is also is very high, i am a bit confused now.

I am a proud owner of a Mahindra Renault Logan 1.5 DLS Diamond White. Logan is definitely a better choice than Maruti’s Swift. Logan won’t end up like the Peugeot 309 because the 309 was made and sold in India by Premier Automobiles Limited (PAL) which broke ties with Peugeot which resulted in the end of the 309, which was an excellent car. I don’t think the service Logan at TVS Automobiles is bad compared to what they did with FIAT cars. So go ahead and buy the Logan,I have no regrets that I bought a Logan

Through my experience , I can suggest that this is very good mid size car for Indian family. Some dont like it design,but I like it, body & door are strong . Riding is very smooth, You can expect a milage of 14-16km is city traffic, and 18-20 in suburbs. you can get more in highway above 20-25 if you run it at average speed of 70km per hour. There are certainly some difficulty in certain features indicator,wipers, headlight are opposite as in left handdrive. Very good Aircondition. Very good to run in rainy season.

The Logan did 981 Kms between Delhi and Ahmedabad (NH8) at an average of an astounding 30.36 Kmpl.

I have purchase Mahindra Logan DLS on dated 30.4.2008 from Gahlot Motors, Sikar. At the time of first service, they told me that we do not have service facility so I send my Logan to K.S. Motors Udaipur Service Centre for First Service.
After checking the car, they told me that the foundation of Radiator is broken from one side. I asked them that I have 2 years warranty of this vehicle so replace it. They taken some photographs and told me that our engineer will see then he will take the decision. After two months I have not received any massage from your side then I contract your help line No. 1800226006 on dated 10.1.2009. They give me a Docket No. IA10/0046.
On dated 12.1.2009 afternoon receive a phone call and he told that send your vehicle to our workshop. I send the vehicle. After that they again pass a massage that our Engineer will visit to Udaipur and he will take the decision. Till date my car is standing in your workshop and this two years warranty system is harassing me. There are two options:
1. is this foundation coming in insurance claims
2. is this foundation coming in warranty.
My vehicle is not accidental vehicle so I think this will not come in insurance claim if it comes in insurance claim this will also mature from your help so please replace this foundation. My Car No. RJ23-CA-1996 and my contact no. 94600 84444.

Logan is a stable vehicle. It is my first car. I bought it in Apr 2008 and have driven the car about 44000 Kms. There is no real problem that I face in the car. I make sure of maintaining the car on regular basis. The ride is much more comfortable than other cars like Dzire and indigo. I get a mileage of 16-17 kmpl on Pune roads. Logan gives the true feeling of a Sedan.

i own a Logan for a year and a half and had driven my car almost 59k kms. and a have not yet got any big complaint other than head light since the light is not powerful.Have seen a friend telling about AC problem “friend AC when recycle vent is open u will recive air from out side be it any car even RR” And water leeakege in tyhe cabin is true complain in the service center they will get it cleared. the milage i get in city is some were around 20 nd 22kmpl and on high ways its very instable as i get millage between 24 and 32kmpl. its true some times i get 32kmpl i drive 320km with just 2points in the fule gauge
