        Specifications

        • Engine & Transmission

          • Engine
            2179 cc, 4 Cylinders Inline, 4 Valves/Cylinder, DOHC

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

          • Engine Type
            2.2 L 16 Valve DOHC VTT DiCOR

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

          • Fuel Type
            Diesel

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

          • Max Power (bhp@rpm)
            138 bhp @ 4000 rpm

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

          • Max Torque (Nm@rpm)
            320 Nm @ 1700 rpm

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

          • Mileage (ARAI)
            13.93 kmpl

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

          • Drivetrain
            RWD

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

          • Transmission
            Manual - 5 Gears

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

          • Turbocharger / Supercharger
            Turbocharged

Manufacturers today offer turbochargers to boost engine power without affecting its fuel economy. Superchargers are found in more expensive cars but on the downside, they are not very efficient.

Turbochargers are more effective but require plenty of heat management. Superchargers, meanwhile, offer linear bump in power but they are comparatively more complex.

        • Dimensions & Weight

          • Length
            4650 mm

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

            Length

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

          • Width
            1918 mm

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

            Width

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

          • Height
            1925 mm

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

            Height

The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.

          • Ground Clearance
            205 mm

It’s the space between the lowest point of the car and the ground.

            Ground Clearance
            • Ground Clearance: 205

If the car has a good amount of clearance, it’s easier for it to clear big speed breakers and overall, deal with bad roads.

          • Kerb Weight
            2115 kg

The total weight of the vehicle with all the standard equipment and all the required fluids.

          • Fuel Tank Capacity
            65 litres

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

        • Best SUV in its class
Exterior You wanna roll like a baller? Then get this truck. Its looks are evergreen. Its been around 20 yrs and it still looks pleasing to the eye. Scorpio is overly done and XUV is trying to hard to look like an SUV and Storme looks like its female version. People will get out of your way when they see you rollin' like a boss. And the spare wheel on its boot adds more to its character. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interior are minimalistic. It has everything you need to be comfortable but it lacks quality. Plastics are pathetic. Space inside can be compared to 1BHK apartment and seats, oh my god!, comfortable than sofa in my house. You can drive it or be driven in it all day long without any fatigue. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Its 140 horsepower so its good. Mine does 0-100 in 10.83 seconds. Pretty good for ~3 ton truck. Top speed achieved was 190kmph (speedo indicated. Do not try this). But its suffers from turbo lag below 1500 RPM. Above 1500 RPM, turbo kicks in and it goes like an elephant on steroids. Gearbox is kinda smooth but could have been better. Long throws. Fuel economy is pretty decent for size of this car. Returns around 10 KMPL in city and around 15KMPL on highways. With a 65L fuel tank its a mile munching machine. Ride Quality & Handling Not exaggerating but on this side of 40 Lakhs, I think its ride quality is best. Absorbs potholes like they don't exist. Steering has play in it and it can't be cured. Has a lot of body roll so do not drive it like a race car. And yes. Every U-Turn you make will be a memorable one beacuse its turning radius is very huge. Final Words Go for it if you like it. I was a Safari fanatic from my childhood that's why I got DiCOR, not Storme. Its the Royal Enfield of cars. Gone are the days when Tata had terrible service backup. Service quality is somehow comparable to maruti's. Every car has its Pros and Cons but the moment I start it in the morning, I forget all of its flaws and feel happy that I got it. • Party is not over...its been one and a half year...
Exterior It sure is head turner even though it is on roads for over a decade. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Just too good. Very spacious, Comfortable, make ur own roads, indeed. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox I have driven it for about twenty five thousand kms and this monster has never dissopointed me, fuel economy is on lower side but at par with the petrol cars..!! Ride Quality & Handling As I said in my previous review as well I dont think u can ever say its not comfortable. though high speed braking is little bothering but I suppose ABS version sure d take care of that. Final Words This is my second review on safari last one was on 25th oct '11 then I just drove it for few hundered kms now I have had done about twenty thousand kms. I would say it is just wonderful all the way uptill now no major issues ever just going smooth. But sure safari is for the ones who just love this car I would encourage all who want to grab this one! Areas of improvement Plastisc quality fit n finish.Every thing .. and i mean every thing....Fit n finish could have been better....

        • Real Beast
Exterior  Exterior looks are awesome. Nobody can beat the look. Really gives the feeling of ROAD SAFARI. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)    Sitting Space, and comfort are good. But Back seat is little bit not comfort to sit for long driving as compare to font seats. Features need to be modified a bit since it looks same in old safari also. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox  everything is excellent. Worth for the money. Great Performance, Great pickup. Ride Quality & Handling Riding gives a good superiority feeling on the road. A Perfect Vehicle for all season. Overall  very good for riding. Final Words  TATA SAFARI is not just a car, Its a Performance Machine. Worth to buy the vehicle. Perfectly made for Indian Roads. Totally A perfect vehicle to travel short , long, roads, terrain. Areas of improvement    Interior switches, door settings, AC  Look, Performance,Interior quality,
