Skoda has announced that the next generation Fabia will not get a vRS badge, implying that the current Skoda Fabia vRS will be the last of its kind. Skoda has said that the reason for the axing the Fabia vRS is the depleting demand for the RS spec hatchback.
The current generation vRS in its top spec gets a handsome 1.4-litre RSFI engine that generates 180PS power and 250Nm of torque. The figures are impressive considering the car only weighs 1,238kg, and when clubbed to the seven-speed DSG gearbox provides enough credentials to the car to justify its vRS badging.
Though in India the vRS version was never available, there is an S2000 version of the vRS that does its duty in the Indian motoring circuit. But the same family also produces the S2000 version of the VW Polo which is a high performer at its level, which is considered to be keeping the Skoda version in the shadows. It will be interesting, at least for the rally enthusiasts, whether the Skoda will continue producing the rally spec car or if it will be completely replaced by the Polo.
