After a few vague teasers, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has officially unveiled their most affordable car yet, the 004S. The 004S is a lightweight, three-seater, 650bhp, USD 40,000 race-ready car which earned SCG its Low Volume Manufactures Status.
According to SCG, the 004S is a ‘fully legal race car for the road’, similar to its bigger, more expensive sibling, the 003. It has a carbonfibre chassis and body thus tipping the scales at 2600 pounds (1179 kilograms). It is a three-seater and similar to the legendary McLaren F1, the 004S has the driving seat in the centre of the cockpit.
At the heart of the 004 is a twin-turbo 5.0-litre (probably a V8) breathing out 650bhp and 720Nm of turning force. The high-revving motor will redline at 8200rpm, boasts the carmaker. SCG has kept its promise and provided the 004S with a gated six-speed manual gearbox. But you can also get yourself a paddle-shifting automatic.
The SCG 004S looks the part with its styling. Akin to its sibling, the 004 looks like a spaceship rather than a road going car. It has outrageous design elements all around, with aerodynamic shapes and unconventional body panels. The only thing conventional about the three-seater are those multi-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside, the dash is decorated with primitive technology like analogue dials and a basic steering wheel. Apart from the visible carbon-fibre panels inside the cabin, you can easily mistake the cockpit to a car from the 70’s.
This is just the first glimpse of the new product from SCG, while the first running model is promised by mid-2018. The base price will be USD 40,000 which is a lot more “affordable” than the 003. The first 25 cars will be sold as Founder’s Addition in 2018-19. However, by 2020-21, SCG promises to deliver 250 cars with a scaled production under their newly acquired Low Volume Manufactures status. SCG also plans to offer GT3 and GTE/GTLM competition versions of 004.
