BMW teases Z4 in its final stages of development

-    BMW has officially teased the production-ready prototype of the Z4 Roadster for the first time.

-    The Z4 conforms to the M40i performance model.

-    The new-gen Z4 is co-developed with upcoming Toyota Supra.

BMW is busy developing the reincarnated Z4 for a long time now. We have spotted the prototype being tested on many occasions already. But now, the Bavarian carmaker has officially released the images of the production-ready Z4 completing its final stages of testing. 

We have already seen the all-new roadster in the concept guise at last year’s Concours d'Elegance. The top-spec of the Roadster will be the Z4 M40i which will have a 3.0-litre straight-six under the long hood. It will also come with lowered sports suspension and electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres, an M sports brake system and an electronically controlled lock in the rear axle differential, confirms BMW.

The two-seater underwent trials at the Autodrome de Miramas to fine-tune the suspension system. The Z4 was also spotted testing on the Nurburgring on many occasions. The prototype seen here has a more detailed bumper design, dual exhaust tips at the rear, and flashy blue brake callipers. Under all the camouflage, we hope the production-spec Z4 Roadster retains most of the design elements from the Z4 Concept. The third generation Z4 Roadster will make use of soft top roof, as opposed to the hard-top convertible of the outgoing generation. Inside the cabin, there will be a new infotainment system and the instrument cluster will be all-digital. 

There are no other details of the Z4 available at the moment. Co-developed with Toyota, the Z4 Roadster is expected to debut earlier followed by the Supra a year later. The Z4 will follow the new 8 Series which will break cover at the LeMans next week.
