Mercedes-Benz has expanded the line-up of the all-new AMG GT 4-door Coupe with the addition of entry-level 43 AMG trim. The new flagship sports sedan is now available in three variants with the other two being the 53 AMG and fully-blown 63 AMG.
Powering the AMG 43 GT 4-door is the same 3.0-litre straight-six engine which does duty in the S450 and CLS450. It produces 362bhp and 500Nm which gets an additional boost of 250Nm from the new 48V EQ mild hybrid system. All the power is sent to Mercedes' 4Matic four-wheel-drive system, thus sending the sedan from standstill to a 100kmph in just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 270kmph. Transmission is the same SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G unit as seen on other variants.
Mercedes-AMG showcased the AMG GT 4-door Coupe at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show as the first 4-door to be built ground-up by the AMG. Based on the AMG GT sports coupe, the 4-door gets the iconic vertically slatted Panamericana grille, muscular bonnet creases, a large air dam, flared wheel arches and a sloping roofline which gives it the finesse of a coupe. On the inside, things are sporty as well as luxurious, as expected from an AMG. The entire cabin is wrapped in the exotic materials like carbon fibre, brushed aluminium and Alcantara. It gets the latest MBUX infotainment system as well.
The top-spec GT 63 AMG 4-door Coupe is powered by the brand’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 630bhp in the 63S and 577bhp in the standard 63 guises. Apart from that, a new generation 3.0-litre straight-six powers the GT53 trim producing 429bhp.
The entry-level AMG 43 GT 4-door retails at 95,259 Euros (approx. Rs 80.54 lakhs) and is almost 14,000 Euros cheaper than the 53-badged GT. The AMG GT 4-door Coupe aims to be a comfortable family grand-touring car. Soon after it hits the streets in the European market, the Three-Pointed Star will bring the new 4-door Coupe to the Indian shore. It will go up against the likes of Porsche Panamera, Bentley Continental and Maserati Quattroporte.
