Tata Motors have announced a 17.59 per cent decline in total sales for August 2014. The company sold 40,883 units last month while they had sold 49,611 units in the corresponding period last year.
The domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles fell by 18.59 per cent in August. The manufacturer sold 36,403 units last month in comparison to 44,717 units sold in August last year. Sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market also decreased by five per cent with 10,975 units sold in August 2014, while 11,564 units were sold in the same month last year.
The commercial vehicle division of Tata Motors has been hit pretty hard by the slowdown in the industry, as domestic sales of CVs declined by 23.3 per cent to 25,428 units during the month from 33,153 units in August last year. Tata Motors has operations overseas which also didn't show a good performance with exports numbers reaching 4,480 units as against 4,894 units in the corresponding period last year, down 8 per cent.
Tata Motors recently launched their new compact sedan, the Zest, which will now be followed by the new hatchback, the Bolt. Let's hope the sales of these cars help the manufacturer to bounce back in terms of sales figures and improve their market share in the Indian market as well.
