The specifications of the Tata Harrier have been revealed ahead of us getting behind the wheel shortly. Its 2.0-litre Kryotec inline-four diesel engine produces 138bhp/350Nm and is being offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Underpinned by the Indian automaker’s Omega platform, it gets an independent front suspension and a semi-independent twist-beam setup at the rear. Braking duties are done by discs at the front and drums at the rear.
ESP and ABS with EBD as well as dual front airbags are expected to be standard across the range while curtain airbags and seat side airbags are expected to be offered on the top spec XZ variants. The Harrier is 4.59-meters and has a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. The all-important ground clearance stands at 205mm while the fuel tank capacity is 50-liters.
The Harrier is Tata’s new premium SUV that will take on the likes of the Hyundai Tucson as well as the Jeep Compass. Its future rivals also include the production version of the Kia SP concept as well as the first SUV from MG Motor, both of which reach our shores in 2019.
