The Land Cruiser is one of the most premium cars offered by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota. It is also considered to be one of the best SUVs available today, blending the on-road and off-road driving experience efficiently with comfort, luxury and reliability.
Even at first glance the Land Cruiser looks big and emits huge street presence. The large front grille is dressed in chrome with the Toyota emblem in the centre. The projector headlamps not only help the SUV find its way out in the dark, but also give it a modern look. The squarish front bumper, rounded off at the edges, has circular fog lamps embedded in it, giving the SUV an old-school appeal. At the rear of the vehicle the chrome grille above the registration plate has ‘Land Cruiser’ engraved boldly in it. Land Cruiser also has a rear spoiler featuring a high mounted LED tail lamp.
The seven-seater SUV, for now, is available in India only in a single variant – LC 200 VX. The interiors of the car are either in brown beige and black tone or just the black tone depending upon the exterior colour. The instrument cluster has been redesigned with the centre console having tit bits of wooden inserts. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and has controls mounted for audio and phone operations. The four-zone air-conditioning system has independent temperature control facility with A/C vents at the rear. The infotainment system comprises of a 6-DVD changer with Electro Multi Vision (EMV) display screen connected to 14 JBL speakers. The vehicle gets leather seat upholstery with the driver seat height being adjustable with personalized memory settings. Only the driver seat is heated and provided with lumbar support. The rear seats can be folded in many versatile ways to make more space for additional luggage.
The Land Cruiser also boasts of a variety of features like Crawl Control system, cruise control, Hill-start Assist control, vehicle stability control, Multi-Terrain ABS, Clearance and Back Sonar and 10 airbags with seat-position sensors. The unique Crawl Control System helps the vehicle to come out of sand or slush when stuck. While the Clearance and Back Sonar system helps the SUV in cornering and reversing, the Multi-Terrain ABS prevents the wheel from slipping in any road conditions and the Hill-start Assist control is beneficial for the vehicle to tackle mountainous terrain smoothly.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a 32-valve DOHC 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine churning out 262bhp of power at 3,400 rpm and 650Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with power delivered to all four wheels. The double wishbone front suspension and four-link with coil spring rear suspension comes with KDSS technology ensuring that the vehicle takes the off-road terrain with ease. The ventilated disc brakes help in better cooling and eventually efficient braking.
Toyota’s SUV line-up sees the Land Cruiser as a premium vehicle which is catering to the prospective buyers globally offering them a remarkably good driving experience along with good space and luxury. It competes with the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Audi Q7, Mercedes Benz GL-Class and the BMW X5.
