        Specifications

        • Engine & Transmission

          • Engine
            1396 cc, 4 Cylinders Inline, 4 Valves/Cylinder

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

          • Engine Type
Direct Injection Common Rail, 16-valve DOHC

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

          • Fuel Type
            Diesel

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

          • Max Power (bhp@rpm)
            70@4000

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

          • Max Torque (Nm@rpm)
            140@1800

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

          • Mileage (ARAI)
            14 kmpl

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

          • Drivetrain
            FWD

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

          • Transmission
            Manual - 5 Gears

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

        • Dimensions & Weight

          • Length
            3988 mm

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

            Length
            • Length: 3988

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

          • Width
            1620 mm

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

            Width
            • Width: 1620

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

          • Height
            1540 mm

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

            Height
            • Height: 1540

Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.

          • Wheelbase
            2450 mm

The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.

            Wheelbase

            Doors
            • Doors: 4
          • Seating Capacity
            5 Person

The number of people that can be seated comfortably in the car, which has also been mandated by the car manufacturer.

            Seating Capacity

          • Fuel Tank Capacity
            42 litres

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.

        • Suspensions, Brakes, Steering & Tyres

          • Front Suspension

          • Rear Suspension
Independent 3- link Mc Pherson strut with Antiroll Bar

The rear suspension can either be non-independent or independent.

Most of the budget cars have non-independent suspension while the more expensive ones get independent rear suspension which offers better bump absorption.

          • Front Brake Type

In affordable cars, drums brakes are fitted at the rear as they are cost effective.

Disc setup at the rear is now getting more popular as cars are getting faster in the real world.

          • Minimum Turning Radius
            5 metres

The official kerb-to-kerb minimum radius a car takes to complete a 180-degree turn.

Shorter the turning radius, the lesser space you need to make a tight turn or to take a U-turn.

        • Just superb for short drives in rural areas
Exterior Moderate Quality of Door beadings, Glass window beadings are not good.   Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Though it looks spacious, For tall people like 6 feet & above, it is very difficult to manage the Knee fouling with dash board/ A/c console.   Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Pick-up in 2nd gear is very poor. One has shift in to first gear at speed breakers, Or else use half clutch to proceed in 2nd gear which in-turn reduce the life of clutch plate.   Ride Quality & Handling Not Bad, but below my expectations. My previous car model was Maruti Gen (older version).   Final Words My expectation has not been met neither technicaly nor Antithetical.   Areas of improvement Tatas has to do lot in following aspects, Quality of Beadings for Doors/ windows and their aesthetics, left Knee of leg fouling with Dash board/ AC console, Air tightness of Cabin / Saloon is very poor as even small quantum of bad smell from outside is entrapping. front shape / bonet shapes to be modified to detract Indigo from indica shape. Smoothness/ noise free doors closing. Central locking is very noisy.  Good fuel economy15 years old Indica front shape & Bonet shape

        • A TATA Car Experience - Fighting Fear and Prejuice
How did the rate the car? Under 10 Lakh midsize cars sedans Style: 5 stars - Fiat Linea Comfort 5 stars - Optra Performance 5 stars - Ford Duratorq Performance 4 stars - Fiat Linea Performance 3 stars - Swift Dzire Performance 2 Stars - INDIGO Performance 1 Star - Hyundai Accent Fuel Economy 5 stars - Ford Duratorq I test rode the following cars 1. Wagon R Duo 2. Indica V2 3. Indica Vista 4. Ford Duratorq 5. Santro Xing 6. i20 7. Mahindra Xylo 8. Fiat Linea 9. Fiat Punto 10. Indigo CS LX DiCOR (Diesel) My Conclusions If you want a formal car, Fuel Efficient Car and Less Maintainance. Vote for INDIGO CS LX DiCOR (Diesel) ORP : 5,57,000/- (Hyderabad) Have to find the various Dealers Prices. As the FIAT and Tata Wheels dealerships is coupled at Paradise, HYD. Interesting to see the Salesman of the Fiat Downplaying the TATA product and TATA salesmen Downplaying the FIAT product. You will get nothing honest and substantial from them. Dealing with this nut jobs is tough. -ves of INDIGO CS XL(Diesel) less power. Another car that was a close competitor was Swift LDi (Diesel).  ORP : 5,33,277 (Varun Motors - 3 Year Warranty) ORP : 5,29,701 (Acer Motors - 3 Year Warranty) Swift LDi has no body colored bumpers. No body colored rear view mirrors. No Power Windows INDIGO has all of above. If you want that in Swift you will have to go for VDi. ORP : 5,71,000/- (Dealers vary by 3,000/- as you might have noticed) Further, the proof of blind buying and the maruti hype is the three month waiting period (@ Acer Motors). You need to pay 2,50,000/- for delivery within one month. Swift has got no goodies coming with it. So you need to loosen your pocket further. All this makes the Swift VDi in the above 6L bracket. Finally it remains a butt-less machine. Guys which girl looks good one with a butt or without ? Swift plus point : Has More power. But you will never require that kind of power. On the contrary INDIGO can be driven efficiently in low speeds without much gear changes. Thats a key factor in city driving. Ford Ikon (Duratorq) has outstanding fuel efficiency and performance. ORP: 6,12,319 (Mody Ford, Begumpet Hyderabad) Price Difference with INDIGO: 56,000/- Its Base Model cost is comparable to Swift VDi. Ford Parts are manufactured in India now. Whats the difference between Ford and Tata then. Spare parts are costly (But Parts last longer). But FORD is currently giving a two year/One Lakh km warranty. Ford rejection is a tough decision. I still like this josh machine.  Dealers are no-nonsense guys. Regular Service is good. Unlike maruti they dont get flooded with vehicles. (I hear from owners). Maruti owners of complain of trying to be First In .. ..Last Harassed Out. Wagon R (Duo) put your dining table chairs on the table. lets put wheels underneath. Vola! We have Wagon R. It feels like a Wagon. +ve point. Good Road View. Your wife can drive it easily. And you kids can watch the road pass by. The New Wagon R Model that was released in JAPAN looks good. Dunno when it will be released here! Looks do matter. Wagon R Loses here. No wonder it doesnt ask for a dowry! Santro ECO GLS (ECO) If you looking for fuel efficiency, value for money and near zero maintainence. ORP : 4,17,000/- (Talwar Hyundai) This is your car. You can close you eyes and buy one. Not for ass lovers! Car is never a car unless its a sedan. The Car is an image. About you. Ford Cares a damn about price. Build world class high performance car. If your seen with one people think you a result oriented guy. With a INDIGO you are seen as a practical guy. With a LINEA your a classy guy. With a SANTRO. Well one among the many beggars like me. Takes you from place X to place Y - Period. Doesnt burn your pocket. With a i10, i20 you are seen as guy with an iQ in the SPECIAL PEOPLE range.    Finally LINEA If you dont travel much. You want a car for style and status symbol. Its has to be FIAT LINEA Active (Petrol) ORP: 6,84,019 It looks like a BMW. The styling is superb. Drop Dead looks. This is an excellent option if you travel less than 25km per day. Mileage claim :17kmpl Mileage lets assume :12kmpl 25(daily travel) X 25(Days) X12 (Months)=7500 7500/12(mileage) = 625 (Litres) = 625 x 50(Petrol Price) = 31250 Diesel Engine Variant of LINEA is approx 2Lakhs more. To recover that cost you will need 5-6 years. Makes no sense. Diesel engines require more Maintanence. That further increases the Cost of ownership. If your beggar wanting to live life KING buy LINEA the model i suggested. Buy it BLACK. Then you dont have to bother about body colored heads and noses. BLACK looks royal with the steel grill. MAJESTIC Hope this Analysis is useful in your decision making. Finally rememeber to verify if you engine Bharat stage- IV Compliant. It is being introduced across 11 cities from April 2010. Dont end up with an brand new uncompliant Engine. To Be WrittenTo Be Written
