We bought one in April 2006 for my parents.

Good space.Great in the city.Decent on the highway. Economical. Comfortable.

Turbo Lag in second gear is a PAIN. The car cries when you go over a speed breaker and it takes quite a while to build up revs after you slow down and shift down to second.

I am wondering how it will feel, if one is negotiating the hairpin bends on the Sigur Ghats on the way to Ooty.

Tata AFTER SALES Service needs a swift kick in the rear end! This car came to us with a constant fan belt/ AC Belt squeaky noise. Despite many attempts to get rid of it, it continues. The latest thing to conk out is the rear door central locking mechanism forcing one to stick a hand out and open the door from outside.

Build quality is not fantastic and the tyres are too small and tiny despite the 14 inch rims!

This car however is great value to use and is very nice and easy to park etc in crowded cities, while still being very spacious, even at the rear seats.

I am wondering about the re-sale value though.

Fuel Economy. Space. Value. Extras not available in other similar size carsService, Turbo Lag in Second Gear, Overall image. Wondering about re-sale

Exterior I loved the exteriors, you really feel its big car for the cash you pay. Clear headlights is best attraction, bumper, grills are class apart in design. So as the rear view with high mounted stop lights. Tyres are broader and look fit for size of car, although bigger wheel arches put you down a bit.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) First you would appreciate about Indica is space inside for 5 passengers. I had been a driver in all cases, but when had chance to sit on rear seats, I felt like I am sitting in some big sedan car, the front 2 seats can be adjusted by sliding accordingly, to suit your height. Front seats can be reclined fully to make a bed, while rear seats can be folded completely to make huge luggage space in rear. There are good and many storage spaces, excellent and easily readable speedometer and tachometer, AC is powerful and chills you quickly with 4 front and 2 front legroom vents. The negative sides are low quality switches and dash borard.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox For 1.2 L engine and size of car, Indica can be called performance car for below 3 lakh budget. Its easy and cool to drive at speeds between 40 to 50 ( 4th gear ) and from 50 to 90 ( 5th gear ). You will take few seconds to reach speed of 50. But then it takes no time to reach speed of 90. Fuel economy is also good, considering this car is 1000 kg. Actually Fuel economy greatly depends on your driving habit. With this car you will feel bored to drive at 50 - 60 speed which is optimum speed for higher efficiency. Its your choice, to have fun at driving 80 km / hr or get more fuel economy. It gave me 16 km / ltr of economy on highways driving at 60 km / hr with AC off.. if you are driving in city with frequent stop and acceleration, it will come down to 12 - 14 with AC on.

Gearbox is one problem although its not bad. In city, you may have to shift between 2nd to 3rd gear often. The real headache abut this car is Reverse gear. You may even spend 1 minute to go to Reverse and few times you may get it on first throw.

Ride Quality & Handling You feel like car is moving slow, rock steady, but speedo will show it cruising at 60 - 70 km/hr. You never feel car is going out of control. I am giving my opinion for GLE version as it dont have power steering. If you are not driver, then relax on headrest of your seat and you may feel you are not really in car if driver is good. Indica softens up the pothelos and speed breaker, but fails to block them completely. Driving Indica XETA is one good expereince and if roads are good and smooth you wont get tired of driving.

Final Words I brought Indica XETA 1.2 GLE for Rs 2.85 on road in Nov 2007.. It was one great surprise for having big car at below 3 lakhs, but there was cash discount of Rs 22,000 at that time ... !!! if your expectations are not high and you have seen other cars in this budget, then Indica is very good choice. Remember it is 5 seater car with lots of weight adding to safety, so you are bit compramising on fuel economy to other light wight cars in this budget.

TATA offered me 3 year free service, and service station gave me satisfactory results. here in my expereince, I just took appointment for service, parked my car in servce station and got it in afternnon ready, on all free services. The cars which can compete with price budget are Maruti 800 and Alto few 20 or 30 thousand less, And santro competing on higher limit of Budget, but all these are small cars.

Areas of improvement Gearshift is headache, soecially reverse gear. Quality of interiors need to improve. I had replace few parts in these 3 years, and they are not expensive, but not really easy on pocket. TATA should refine the engine and it will help if we get more power in 3rd and 4th gears. In GL and GLE versions, you can get your bumpers, and ORVMs painted to body color and it looks like higher model and beautiful.

      1. Space for 5 2. Great Looks 3. Solid Feel 4. Performance 5. Luggage 6. Fuel Economy for size1. Fuel economy in class 2. Average quality Interiors 3. Less power at low speeds 4. Resale value

Exterior Indica V2 Zeta GLS purchased in Aug.2006. Body is getting rusted. Regn No.DL 7 CE 6694. Well maintained vehicle. Basement parking. Due to rusting, big wholes formed on the right front door, rear left door and fuel cap. Also aat the place where door is fixed. I have shown this to Raghuvanshi Motors and requested them to take up the issue with concerned officers for quality control. It is hardly four and half years since the car is purchased and the external appearance is very horrible. My address is B-6/F-3, Ramprastha, Ghaziabad, U.P. 201011. Shall be grateful, if you could send somebody to inspect the vehicle and see the veracity of faacts mentioned.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent and comfortable.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Vehicle is run on CNG.  Company fitted kit at the time of purchase.  Engine 1400 CC.  It has not given any trouble.  On CNG it is giving 14-15 kms. per kg. city driving.  Petrole efficiency is about 12 km/ltr.

      Ride Quality & Handling Excellent.

Final Words Vehicle is very good'.

Areas of improvement Quality of sheet used for body needs improvement.

Use of plastic eye brows be discarded. Instead bring back the model without eyebrows.good interiors and spacious

After surveying almost every mid segment car in Indian market I zeroed on XETA. Reason: Which dam car comes for 3.5 lacs with 1200 cc, AC, power steering and proven performance and wide service network???

Almost 3 months have passed since I am driving this car(this is my first car) and I very satisfied driving this car. The car is an excellant value for money and is good for those who are buying a car for the first time. The best part about this car is the space inside,it's simple uncomparable. The AC is powerfull enough to cool the cabin within minutes when your car is parked in hot sun. The only concern which I felt is it's pick up laggs behind other cars in this segment such as Santro, Spark etc. The fuel economy is fair and it's currently fetching 12.5 km/ltrs in city like Pune and 17 km/ltr on highways.Gear shifting is an area which Tata's should look into. It's not that butter smooth but satisfatory as compared to previous versions( yeah I learnt to drive in Indica). The quality of interior is some what OK, nothing catchy and fasinating but enough to serve your needs. I am 6ft tall and I fit in easily, no leg and back pains on drives more that 300 kms. The engine is powerfull and musclles out with comfort on uphill climbs.

I would suggest that those wishing to buy a family car for the first time...go for it

Good fuel economy,Good power output, effective AC, Space insideGear shifting, Pick up

Exterior Nice Oval exteriors, compact, Lovely tail lights , Defogger at Back Glass, Nice Ground Clearance, Adjustable Head lights( beam can be adjusted), Fog lights

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Spacious, with nice leg room both at front and back, Though the plastic quality is not that good but every car has its pros and cons, AC best in tis class.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Awesome 1405 cc engine with good fuel economy, Steering is a bit tight as compared to Maruti, Turning radius good, this compact car has both Power, Speed and space in a reasonable price, very reliable, Car pick up is awesome

Ride Quality & Handling Steering a bit tight, good turning radius, good height for driving as compared to its rivals, comfortable ride, steering comport

Final Words I have been owning Indica Xeta GLG since 2006, driven the car for 60000 kms till now. Thrice went from Delhi to Chhattisgarh ( 1400 kms one way ), car has touched the speed of 157 kmph, awesome power and pick up . Have got a mileage of 14- 15kmpl during initial 3 years in the city and 18.5 kmpl on highways. however milage came down to 12 - 13 kmpl in the city and 16.5 kmpl on highway, ofcourse it has almost been 8 years. I am very satisfied with the car. Ofcourse needless to say , it has been a very low maintenance for me. Have changed the Car tyres and Battery . My  personal view would be  everything depends on the way you drive, car serviced at every 5000 kms, Alignment and balancing done every 3 months. This increases the car life. Everything depends on the way the car is kept and car will give you the results that way

Areas of improvement Lack of Spares as car is out of production, Tata need to find some good dealers who actually should be customer oriented not just to finish their jobs. This is an area where tata in car segment is lacking. Tata should not give commercial licences for all their cars. Plight of indica is due to the mind set of people now that is it taxi typed, hence people prefer maruti rather than tata.

Nice 1405 cc engine in a small car, good average, low maintenancelack of spares in tata after the model is discontinued

Exterior The car has good exteriors!

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Spacious and comfortable!

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance was pathetic, fuel economy was 9 KM/L, gearbox was good! I thought of buying a small car in 2007. I short-listed Wagon-R and Santro. However at that time it was out of my budget. I thought to check out the TATA's Xeta V2, which turned out to be the biggest mistake.

At first, I found the car attractive and spacious. I made up the decision to buy this car; I bought it for Rs 3.30 lacs on road. I bought the car in Feb 2007 and the first problem that came was overheating, which came in Nov 2007 only. Than my misery continued till I sold off the car in Aug 2010 for just 80K.

If I tell you my experience with that car, I almost spend close to or may be more than 1 lac on its repairing and maintenance in 3.5 years. After the repair from the company as well as the local mechanics, the car used to give trouble.

I opted for local mechanics coz whenever I use to give the car in the TATA repair centre, they always exceeded the rough bill and the final bill used to be double or triple of what was initially quoted to me.

I won’t even recommend this car to my enemy. In few instances the TATA’s own engineer told me why you bought this car. Never heard even a single good comment for the XETA in the period that I owned it. Finally when I was tired of all those repair works and everything, I planned to sell that car. But that was not the end to my misery, what I got to know that no auto dealer wanted to buy XETA for more than 90K and even or few of them offered a mere 60k. When I contacted them they said we can only sell that if we have a buyer waiting for it.

At last, I exchanged that car for a mere 80K for a new car. Please if you read this never ever try to even think of buying TATA Xeta.

      From

      Gaurav

      Hi all wise Indica users,

Xeta GLG 1.2 is my first car. I purchased it in Jan 2008 & till date covered 16000+ Kms. When I decided to go for this car, everyone including my family members laughed at me & said you are going to buy a TAXI.....?  But I was quite firm on my decision as I took it after detailed market research. No other car in India is offering so much features at such a lower price. My first year with Indica Xeta is a superb experience in all respect. I drove this car right from Express Highways to rough roads in Kokan region & I find the car prooved to the best in all conditions. My observations & comments on various aspects are as below :

Engine Performance :- Quite smooth petrol engine. No vibrations, noise inside cabin. Low pickup when AC on, but you can not expect more with 1198 CC engine better than this.

Comfort :- Excellent. Quite spacoius from inside. 5 adults can sit easily. All my family members are 6 feet tall. But no issue even at rear seat with 3 people.

Interior Plasics :- Could have done better. ok ok quality. Try to use dashboard cover from day one to avoid scratches, dull finish of dashboard.

Ride Quality :- Excellent. I fitted Michelin Tubeless tyres on my Indica on the very first day which has improved ride quality & road grip

Fuel Economy :- 15-16 kmpl in City with 80% AC on. 19-20 Kmpl on highways with 90% AC on. Indica Engine well designed & manufactured. But our driving habits are also having big impact on FE. I must say I am following all good driving habits.

Maintenance :- Till date no breakdown maintenance for any reason. But time to time servicings are very important. Weekly checks for engine oil level, coolent level, break & power steering fluids are very important. They are very easy to perform.

Overall :- I am quite satisfied with My Indica so far. The only problem with TATA is the consistency in Quality. Some of the owners are having very bad experince with TATAs & some of them are extremely satisfied.

This car is best among all the cars of the same hatchback segment. This is really value for money......

One very important thing we should not forget is every vehicle is a Machine. If we care about them they will take care of us. Our maintenence practises, driving & vehicle usage habits plays very important role in the life cycle of any vehicle.

Extremely Spacious, smooth engine, low maintenence, good fuel economyTight Reverse gear shift, low pick up with AC on, smell with AC

Just finished 2000kms on my Indica V2 turbo

This time tata has really done a excellent job with the turbo int cool engine. the car has got quite a good pickup, excellent fuel economy and quite comfortable to drive and for the passengers as well. The cabin noise is quite reduced, and does not irritate you much... (i had a scorpio previously and at 100+ speeds i really couldnt listen to what the person next to me was saying)

      Averages :

      Highway

      best avg : 20.1 KM/L (speed 80-90, without a/c)

      worst avg : 16.4 KM/L (speed 100-120 without a/c)

      normal avg(!!) : 18.5 KM/L (speed arnd 100, semi a/c)

      City : 13.5 km/l (semi a/c, speed 40-50)

There is however one thing which i dont like about this car... and that is that it looks like a indica. However, by fitting a rear spoiler and roof rails you can change your car's appearence from a taxi to a nice sporty looking city car.

      HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Check out the new Indigo XL Grand : The most luxorious car i have ever seen so far, leaves the optra magnum and skoda far behind in comfort and leg room.

Good pickup, Excellent fuel economy, quite roomyonly that it looks like a indica (which can be resolved), Cheap interiors

I bought Indica DLG Turbo in Jan 2006. I drove 21,000 Kms in it. This is a good value for money car. The pick up is good. When it comes to the milage it is giving a fentastic milage of 20 kms per litre for  highway drive and around 13 kms for city drive.I love the space inside this car.I drove to ooty 5 times in this car, It climb very well if we maintain hight RPM. I am unhappy about the Jasper Industries serivce in Vijayawada.Good fuel economy,Space and PickupPost Sales Service

it is a good car as for as value for money is concerned ,lot of improvments has been made in engine . gear box is also improved.but tatas should have changed the looks which is same from the begning.

AC  is good, chills the cabin within minutes

pic  up is much improved with turbo engine as i have driven the old version too (V2)

      gear box is better

not much change in interiors ,plastic used looks cheap

but overall driving exp. is quit good even at heigh speeds .Engines noice definately disturbes you , but u become used to after some time .

but before making a final choice do consider palio staile multijet  ,in the same budget range (apro. )

i have taken the test drive of palio multiget , initial feelings and experiance is better than indica turbo. definately a more stable and stylish car

if u dont consider the resale values of both cars and decided to go with it for next 4 -5 years go for palio multijet

good fuel economy ,powerful AC ,better pic up than V2cheap plastic interiors , noice of engine at heigh speeds inside the cabin
