fter doing a lot of research I bought the new Tata Safari 2.2 LX in Black colour in April 2008 from Om Sai Motors, Mumbai. The new engine is really good and responsive. The cabin is much better in sound proofing and there is very little noise of the new diesel engine inside the car.

The interiors are spacious and exterior looks are good too. I have driven the car for about 3000 Km and it is giving me a mileage of about 9 kmpl in the city. The back seat is a little too stiff for comfortable long drives and AC is not very effective in summer.

Still, overall it would have been a great choice had it not been for the worst quality of service from both the dealer and even the customer service manager of Tata Motors and some niggling manufacturing faults in the car.

From day 1, there is a rattling noise in the two front seats. The right side suspension also makes squeaking sounds all the time even on smooth roads. The side cladding has changed colours and showing white spots on several places.

What is most annoying is that out of the 2.5 months that I have had the car, I had to take the car 3 times to the service centre and not a single time did they return the car on the promised date and free of faults. Out of the 70 days that I have owned the car, the car has spent more than 10 days at the workshop. Every time I am told the problem is resolved and every time I find out the same thing reappearing a couple of days later.

There is no apology or compensation from either the dealer or Tata Motors for wasting my time and money. This is my fourth car and it is the most disappointing experience that I have had so far.Good Engine, Power, SpaceShabby interiors, Bad manufacturing quality, poor service

Having driven top of the line Land Rovers, needless to say the Tata Safari Dicor 2.2 VTT does seem like a poor cousin (ever noted the similarity between the Land Rover Freelander and the latest Safari?) - that said the Safari with the Dicor 2.2 VTT engine is great value for money and can certainly be rated as a world class SUV at desi prices! Though lacking cutting edge technology such as cross-wheel-drive, wheel spin control and intelligent/ variable suspension as also the impeccible quality and refinement of European interiors and safety systems (which ought to be standard anywhere in the world!) the latest Safari is head and shoulders ahead of the competition in the local market both in terms of engine technology (in particular VTT) as well as ride, reliability and handling- needless to say the very impressive looks and 'presence'.
Perhaps with Tata Motors purchasing the Landrover and Jaguar brands Tata engineers (and perhaps more importantly policy makers) will decide to show the desi market (whose support helped them to make the money to buy Land Rover in the first place) what they have picked up from Land Rover et al - perhaps...hopefully in the next Safari?? Meanwhile lets be happy with what seems certainly to be the best of what we have!!Looks, stable, ride and handlingPoor turning radius, sluggish below 1500 RPM, sticky gear, steering noises

I had bought the vehicle after reviewing it for good time. My friend who has been driving safari with VTT Engine for last 20 Months highly recommended it for the sheer value it offered. This guy had a civic, an elantra and an I10 and still liked Safari the most. I bought the vehicle on 22.10.09, its LX Model. Immediatetly got a Remote Central Lock (Xenos make with lifetime warranty), a Sony Bluetooth enabled Music System (BT3600) and Roof AC for Second Row installed from the market. The Car has costed me Rs. 8,08,000/- on road with 4 year warranty plus the accessories for Rs. 27,000/-. Already had a GPRS System from maps of india (Rs. 18,000/-) and a Speed Radar Detector(USD 100)which are now installed in the safari..... SO NOW this all amazing fully loaded mini truck is roaring on Delhi NCR Streets. I enjoy the respect it commands on road. There are little sounds from here and there but I was well aware of such problems prior to buying, as this is an issue with all tata vehicle. There after care is good as learnt from others users...lets hope these rattles will go away with time. BUY IT FOR THE AMAZING VALUE AND COMFORTAmazing Looks, Sheer Street Presence, Great Value for Money, Family Loves it for Sheer Sitting SpacePoor fit and finish especially from inside, a little more care and even this can improve.

I've bought New TATA Safari 4x2 LX DiCOR 2.2 VTT from Joshi Auto Zone, Chandigarh on 22.2.2010. It has completed 6500kms. Guys! It will be an honest review. The moment I purchased this vehicle i was doubting my decision. I purchased it just because i used to admire this vehicle on roads, its looks, the coziness a person feels while sitting in it, i mean all in all its nuisance on road, as if its saying to other cars on road... "hato peechhe...!!!....Safari aa gayi hai...." Even after purchasing it and doing about 500km i was not able to satisfy myself wid the performance of the vehicle, like capacity of the engine as to how much stress it can take, fuel economy, and leaking of coolant from the radiator.

BUT as i kept on driving this "Bull" all of my doubts started disappearing. I drove it 960Km with AC on my first out station tour and it gave me a satisfactory average of 14.78 kmpl with almost the best comfort in riding/travelling. (i tested it on high speed also i.e 150kmph for about 20 kms--Yeah...!! Rock solid and beautiful balance) Then again my Second Tour was of 678Kms with AC giving another good average of 14.56 KMPL. in City it gives 11kmpl. I'm not facing any odd thing as my Maruti 800 used to run in the same money as Safari is costing me.

The problem of coolant leaking was due to loose outlet point which was precisely rectified by the Joshi Auto Zone. Then 3 days back I've come back from Manali Tour a total of 658kms wid AC giving the average of 12.56kmpl. wid 60% driving in 3 gear and 20% in 2nd gear and 10% in 1st gear Due to heavy Rush and traffic jams on Manali Highway due to summer vacations and the rest 10% in 5th gear. Man! it climbs the hills like a monkey. So powerful engine so much satisfaction and so much comfort, space and gud interiors and the occupants comments that they feel as if they r sailing on a ship....Ratan Tata very well said tht "i do not take right decisions, i take the decisions and prove them right" Yes the dream SUV... Go for it!

Gearbox: 2nd Gear and back gear sometimes are not so smooth as they should be.

Ride Quality & Handling: Very good. i guess wid ABS handling while applying emergency breaks would be more comfortable.

Areas of improvement: the option to convert Back jump seats in to normal ones facing towards windscreen should be made. Though the clock is in the digital speedometer but it can be taken out so tht it can be viewed by all the occupants of the vehicle.

Yes Guys when it comes on Road. it actually says. "DUM HAI TO PAAR KAR...VARNA BARDASHT KAR"

Gud Style, Comfort, Average, Feel and lovely responses from u'r knowns ;)Till Date none.....

THEY CHARGE EVERY THING BUT DO NOTHING (COUGHT RED HANDED ON THE SPOT)

The servicing of all the tata authorised dealer is very baad. one time there is some problem is come in my a.c. i go to service station. they repair my a.c. in three times in a month but they cannot solve my problem and the service station manager say it is a gift from  tata for puchasing a tata motor vechicle. in the end i repair my car a.c.  from unauthorised dealer. so my suggustion to all the new car buyer is that u will purchase a cycle but don"t purchase car from tata motors basicaly tata is truck manufacturer they dont have to make car. they dont have any idea to how to make car the basic thing in india which is necessary in indian car is  a.c. but they have no mind how to make main basic need.

My dad bought this car when I was 9 years old. I was not so very amazed by it at first. But everything changed when the full potential of the car was squeezed out. For the reader's kind attention: It is a long review so please take some time to read it. The power of the engine, my god!!!!, it's marvelous. It feels like the engine is bolted to your back and you will enjoy while driving this beast. You can just cruise on the highway. You will become very confident while driving this beauty. It has a good amount of space and no problem in space. Comfort is at the next level. I would like to share an incident. During the year 2014, whole Chennai was affected by the flood. No power supply or no transportation facility, but only water everywhere. My grandmother was in the hospital. She wasn't willing to stay there and she wanted to come home. The hospital refused to provide the ambulance. Then we decided to bring her home with our Safari. Our street was full of water. The water just covered our Safari's bonnet. Swimming through the water we brought my grandmother from the hospital [ NOTE: WE HAD A 4x2 SAFARI]. The thing is we didn't face any problem but the starter motor was damaged and the number plate got washed away. It is the most safest SUV ever. So talking about Cons, the vehicle is big and lengthy and it is difficult to make a U-Turn and plastics are so cheap. High maintenance. High cost of spare parts and it is difficult to get a few parts. You would not like to sell this car once you have driven it. CONCLUSION: You will feel like a king when you drive it on the highways and the truth is you will emotionally get attached to the car easily.

      Exterior

       Wonderfully finished

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Lavish but poor plastic quality, Very comfortable, soothing A.C.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Very responsive but really kicks in above 2000 rpm. 140 BHP is not enough to rampage the road with a 2+ tons of mass.

      Ride Quality & Handling

wonderfuuly balanced, Can travel smoothly for long hours. Extremely comfortable in long journey

      Final Words

Highly recommended. Far better than any other option available at this price tag. Proud to posess one. Will be with me for ever. I do have a scorpio too but my vote will always go for this machine.

      Areas of improvement

More on BHP & dodgy interiors. Tata needs to work on the Tacho s as well. I used to drive a TCIC too but 2.2 Dicor VTT is a much better option. But TCIC with a dual head lamp looked more stylish, but this machine means business.

Huge Space, Comfort, Luxary, Good aggressive stylingPoor plastic, Tacho

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine performance is pathetic. There were engine troubles where the engine stalled with my vehicle just 47000 kms on road and that too being completely dealer maintained. I had to spend a lot of money to get in back.

Ride Quality & Handling Bulky ride / Feels very Trucky. Being a tall car taking sharp curves at a speed of over 60 is not recommended.

Final Words Wouldnt recommend a buy. There are much better cars in the category which are better runners. They have stinged on the smallest of things with quality that it has left a lot wanting.

Improvements Needed The AC vents are of poor quality need to be changed often. Wires showing in the cabin which is pretty sad for the price charged. The quality of the power window units is poor and you need to keep changing them too. The standard Headlight power is bad and you will have to look at upgrading the same. Engine? After my mishap the less said the better.
