New Aston Martin Vantage production begins

Aston Martin recently commenced production of the new Vantage, a car which is touted as the sportiest model in the luxury automaker’s line-up. 

Hand built at the company’s sports car production plant and headquarters, in Gaydon, Warwickshire, the new Vantage joins the Rapide S, the DB11 family, and the soon to be launched DBS Superleggera.  The Vantage is the second in a line of seven new models to be launched over a period of seven years, in line with Aston’s ‘Second Century Plan’, which takes the 105-year-old company into its next century of operation.

The new Vantage is more powerful, lighter, faster and also more expensive than the outgoing model. The new platform used in this model is made especially for forthcoming Astons. The Vantage tips the scale at 1,530kg. At 4465mm, the car is 284mm shorter than the DB11 and 34mm shorter than a Porsche 911.

Under the hood is the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 sourced from Mercedes-AMG that powers the DB11 V8. Set as far behind from the front axle as possible, the motor produces 503bhp at 6000rpm and 685Nm from 2000-5000rpm. All this firepower is sent to the rear wheels via ZF eight-speed paddle shifting transmission.

With the first set of Vantages coming off Aston’s Gaydon production line, deliveries to customers will commence soon.
