Chevrolet Sail Petrol 1.2 Base

Hi,

I am a PhD student and during the final phase of my thesis (Oct-Dec,2014) was looking to buy my first car.

Did an Extensive Research on various cars and their models. Gone through reviews of various cars at mouthshut.com, team-bhp etc. Was going to book Amaze but suddenly this car caught my attention.

Got a very well-behaved Sales representative and till now I liked the behaviour of Chevy representatives at multiple showrooms that i have visited randomly in the Hyderabad City.

As my budget was 6.5 lacs and would driving occasionally, I was bent on a petrol version. As i already own a Hyundai Santro at Home; At here( Hyderabad) was looking for a Sedan ( since compact sedans like Dzire., Xcent and Amaze are ruling the market :D)

Did a sufficient amount of research on sail sedan and talked with the customers at service centres of different car models like Xcent, Amaze including premium Hatchbacks like Grand i10 and Brio ( these two was also somehow in my Consideration set).

Finally, got the delivery of my car on 31st Dec, 2014 in the evening.

Started Sailing from 1st Jan, 2015. I am very satisfied with my research on various models as it indeed helped me to best utilize my investment instead of falling in the category of Common Crowd and going for Dzire, Xcent or Amaze.

I am not criticizing other brands or their models; but at the same time i really dnt find any solid reason why this car has been under-rated.

I am getting fuel efficiency of around 15.8 Kmpl ( even before first service). Whats more I need from a Mid-size Sedan even before first service. Chevy should really promote this car (I guess that is what was missing really as i too, like many. were not much informed of this car).

Engine: I really find the SMARTECH engine butter smooth without any vibration (till now). Next the throttle is linear and Clutch and Accerlation is very smooth in their delivery.

Hence, I seriously appraise Maruti, Hyundai and Honda for their beauties : Dzire, Xcent and AMaze; but at the same time I have fallen for this wonderful Chevy SAil!!!

Exterior Excellent car, not falls in the Compact Sedan Class, I would rather say an under-rated car......not much sales figure like Dzire, Amze and Xcent. and hence not so much seen on Indian Roads.I feel Chevy shoudl promote properly.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Supspension is one the best in its class and much better than Dzire, Xcent and Amaze.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Butter Smooth Engine; (I have test driven Amaze; xcent and Dzire and seriously I dnt find hardly any difference in engine smoothness compared to the most popular Kappa 2 VTVT Engine of marutis and Hyundai; and also with I-vtec of Honda.).They are definitely smooth; but SMARTECH is not less at the least in terms of response, drivalibility, throttle, engine sound and vibration. Its equally capable thats all I can say (at the least) if not better.

Ride Quality & Handling Chevy cars ( including Sail Sedan) are best known for fine-tuned suspension. Its really one of the best and well-balanced suspensions among its class of cars.

Final Words I have fallen in love with this brand ( which was least aware of

Areas of improvement The only areas of improvement that I strongly feel Chevy should look into (for all its cars): interior plastic quality and fit and finish!
Best suspension and ride quality, Good fuel economy, Excellent service by Chevy RepresentativesInterior Plastic Quality Could have been better!!!

            Regreting of choice

Very bad experience of using grand i10 within two years tired of engine problems many times 36000km first time engine locked and from that problems are continued no satisfaction of using car

            PATHETIC SERVICE

"Goregaun Ashtavinayak Mumbai PATHETIC SERVICE" My Name is Alisha Lobo I had booked a Chevrolet Sail U-VA on the 14th November 2012 and I had asked them to deliver the car on the 26th December 2012 which happens to be my Anniversary after all the payments done loan passed and finally comes the day I was suppose to get my delivery but they called me on 25th saying I will not get the delivery on 26th as they don't have the model, and they promised me a delivery on the 28th then they gave me a date on the 2nd of Jan 2013 and told me the compensation part they will give me accessories worth 6000 and also the car registered of 2013 without any extra cost, I said OK as I had the heart's for the car then they promised me 7th then 10th now its the 11th still I have not received my car. Just came back from the showroom we reached at( 7pm and till 12.30am) the situation was so bad that after not getting the car on time they are not ready to pay me my money pack its only after the police intervened the managements is asking us to leave come tomorrow and then they will look into the matter. that means tomorrow also there is no surety that they will come up with any solution, in short I spent 2months + 4 hours till mid night to get this bulls*** from them.
Not Professional at allEverything

Nice sporty vehicle, have to wait and see for long term performance

I test drove, Ford Endevour, Mitsubishi Pajero and Cheverlot Captiva ( Honda CRV dealer could not provide a test drive even after requesting few times). The height of the driver seats and leg room was the deciding factor against Ford endevour ( I am not looking for fuel economy if somebody looking fuel economy then they should not go for any of the SUVs). The factor went against Pajero was the outdated model and the old body shape. Pajero is bigger than Captiva still feels and body feels very light/flimsy on the road.

Captiva the design is very good, nice interiors, very good leg room for the front seats and the middle seats. The rear seats are not comfortable at all and better not to use and use it as a luggage space only. The driving comfort is very good, nice view from the drivers seat except for rear side. You have to use the side mirrors to view the vehicles coming from behind rather than the centre mirror. The airconditoner works really good, seats are not bad but as not plush as the ones you find outside India but good compared to the other models. If you are cruising on highway it is good, in town the first and second gear the power is really good, but when you are on third gear inside the city, the engine clutters and there is no much power.

Pros

Bold look and good interiors

Cons

Rear seats and rear view from the rear view mirror.

Don't ask about fuel economy if you are planning to buy a SUV, enjoy your driving ( Hope you are driving the vehicle not your driver)

Below comments are after using 3 weeks,

I drove around 1000 Kms in first 3 weeks, the mileage in what I get in Mumbai city is around 10 Kms per Litre.

The aircondition is very good, for the front seats and middle row, still dont know how it will be in the last row because there is no seperate vent for the middle and last row.

Below are the comments after using almost 5 months and driving more than 7000 kms

We had some real good drive from Mumbai to Kerala via Goa and while coming back took the route of satymanaglam forest - Bangalore and then Kolhapur and then Mumbai. The drive was excellent and we never faced any kind of problem with vehicle ( Captiva). The roads were excellent and there were few bad patches. Total distance we covered in this trip was around 5500 kms, The average mileage on long distance was around 12 Kms. Only problem we faced was with the Music system, the CD player stopped working by the end of the journey, but got fixed when i came back to Mumbai thanks to Ashtavinayak Auto ( Dealer for Chevy). The drive was really comfortable, as per my family travelling in the middle seat also was comfortable, the rear seats were not used and used it as luggage space only. The vehilce is having real good road grip, touched the maximum speed of 180 kms while we were on Bangalore - Kolhapur strech.

We used the vehilce is real village roads in kerala where there is no tarmac and the performance was good.

I bought this car through Ashtavinayak Automobiles and they are providing excellent after sales service.

Any new car buyers and going for loan be carefull about the direct sales agents of banks, they will quote you more interest and also price of the car more than the dealers, Go directly to the dealers for buying the car and also go directly to the bank to get loan rather than going through the Direct sales agent. For saving almost 2 lacs - thanks to HDFC and Ashtavinayak. Soon shall reveal the name of the direct sales agent who tried to cheat me.
Elegant Style, Very good pick up, Good view from the driver's seat, very good interiorsLast row seats are very congested, unable to view properly through rear view mirror
