22nd May, 2008: Hi friends! I have done 3500 Kms. I could not help but update on this wonderful car. Its AC is really great. I was getting great comfort even when the outside temperature was 45 degrees centigrade. Glitches ofcouse are there. The left side front wheel rim was slightly dented on impact against a hump. One wiper blade just collapsed and one pair of wiper liquid nozzle broke. Had to pay cheap for replacements. They don't cost more for the parts. Equivalent to costs of similar parts in Maruti 800, my first car for 10 yrs which is still in my possession. But great driving experience. Once I got my seating position right it was a pleasure driving this car. One has to go for frequent gear changes on busy traffic as the car only pulls decently in third gear. So for safety reasons I overtake only in 3rd gear. Overdrive is really powerful after 50kmph and at 80kmph it feels as there was enough power for a 6th gear as well. At 2300rm the car cruises decently at 80kmph. You get to 100kmph without even touching 3000rpm. But beyond that you have to cross 3000rm and over 3K rpm one gets a humming sound from under the engine bay or a kind of a booming sound which was threatening in the beginning but not scarring after a while. I have touched 120kmph and the car is so steady at such a high speed. I have driven in mild ghats and it takes turns on sharp bends at 70kmph very assuredly. That means it has good grip and very very good handling. Perhaps because of my exaggerated driving habits I may not be getting good mileage. The best so far I have got is 16.5kmpl. But I am really impressed by its superb cooling. Its a joy in this Nagpur summer. I hope the car maintains this in the long run. More news after a while. Until then happy driving. Use seat belts folks.

          Now Dear Folks 2009 review

I have now done 14000kms on my Indigo CS LS (Mint White). The car doing very very well. The best mileage is 18.5 for highway with a/c. In city it constantly gives 14kmpl. I am a percentage driver. I cover pretty long distances. Pune to Nagpur 730ms I covered in 12hrs flat. Have touched max speed of 140kmph on various stretches. My car has now travelled as far as Bhubaneswar, Koraput (Orissa), Solapur, Pune, Gwalior, Aurangabad and Jabalpur all from Nagpur and back. All other sundry runs are covered in between. I have discovered that its braking is really excellent. I was saved on one occassion when an old lady jumped on to the middle of the road when I was cruising at above 100kmph the car came to a halt in 15-20mts sharp and with some tyre burning smell. No complaints whatsoever. The car has been very very solid in its demeanor so far. After the second free service its acceleration has increased by almost 30% and mileage has also been positively affected. As I told you the figure of 18.5 is after the servicing. My driving is not that good as I go on top speeds, road permitting. With some decent frugal driving I am sure the car can achieve mileage figures of above 20kmpl. It augurs well in these times of extreme depression.

Second half of 2009: Indigo CS rocks!!! 22000 kms and going.....

Dear followers of this blog. I have nothing to add to what I have submitted so for from the beginning apart from loads of admiration for this jem of a car. I have now done 22000kms in this car. And for a person of 45 yrs like me with only self driving, this is a lot for me my friends say. But I have done more than this when I have more crops on my forehead. However, this TATA machine matures with age. Its so stable on highways and so precise with its braking and handlings. I have done the Max speed of 140kmph and at my age I think this is great. I would not dare for more but I actully need not with the good roads of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, AP on which I generally drive this car. On a journey of 8-10 hours on highways I cover an average mileage of 60kms per hour. Therefore, I cover a distance of 500kms in a single day with driving of less than 10hrs rather comfortably and with out any feeling of burden or hassle. I have done second roatation of the wheels and all the tyres are in very good condition. No hint of alignment shift or wobbling at highspeed. There has been no change at all of the wheel alignment in all these 22000kms.

To share with you. A month ago the pretty lady at Jaika Motors Nagpur impressed upon me to go for the FIAT Grand Punto as an exchange for my Indigo CS. I became greedy for my TATA. I put a price of 4 lakhs. I had buyers immediately who wanted to buy this car for 4 lakhs!!! No bargain? I thought I have underpriced my car or what? But soon the Grand Punto lust waned and I am faithful to my Indigo CS.  I now want to deck up the interiors and jazz up the car a  bit. Afterall trust comes with a price.
Good acceptable style, cosy seats, good space, great a/cblack carpet, old style keys.

The New Indigo CS is superb in terms of style, economy & Performance. Handling of the car is good. New rear tail lamps, good steering which gives a costlier look. Gear rats have changed. Pick up has increased due to less body weight. You get a sedan for nearly a price of a hatchback. good cabin insulation against engine sound

The New Indigo CS is superb in terms of style, economy & PerformanceShould have provided central locking in car

The world’s cheapest saloon, the Indigo CS, gets Tata’s common-rail diesel engine (Dicor), and a lot of tweaks to improve the overall package. The CS DiCOR does cost Rs 50,000 more than the existing Indigo CS TDi’s Rs 4.41 lakh, but it is still cheaper than its nearest saloon rival (the Swift Dzire LDi) by a substantial Rs 60,000.

Almost everything about this diesel motor is the same as on the Indica/Indigo DiCOR. It uses the same variable geometry turbocharger, the same 1600-bar common-rail direct injection system, the same twin overhead camshafts and also injects fuel into the cylinders thrice during each combustion cycle. It even uses the same gearbox and, importantly, the shorter gear ratios of the Indica DiCOR. However, there are a few key changes to this engine (from the Indigo DiCOR’s) that improve refinement levels. The engine head covers have been modified and the valves have been optimised to reduce noise. There’s also more material in the firewall (the bit that separates the engine bay from the cabin) to block excess noise from getting to your ears.

The CS feels different from its bigger brother. The tendency to stall is still there, as the engine falls below 1000rpm quite easily. However, once past this, throttle response is perky, and as long as you stay above 1400rpm, part-throttle response is peppy as well. The regular Indigo DiCOR has a lot more lag, something that seems to have been sorted on the CS, thanks to the shorter gears. Flat-out performance is adequate, the CS DiCOR getting to 100kph in 14.9 seconds, but it feels a lot faster than this thanks to the minimal lag in throttle response.

Out on an open road, the CS DiCOR will run to a true 166kph before the engine runs out of breath. And thanks to the short gearing, the engine spins at 2400rpm at 100kph, bang in the middle of its powerband. This means that in most cases, all you need to do to overtake is tap the throttle. We are really thrilled with the improved driveability, because it reduces the need for a gearshift when you need to up the pace. However, the imprecise and rubbery gearshift has been carried over from the regular Indigo; it’s a serious shortcoming in every Indica-based model.

However, the car is certainly more silent. The tweaks to the engine have resulted in a slight improvement over the regular Indigo DiCOR. Yet, you can still hear that familiar gravelly note that is characteristic of the DiCOR motor. It is still lags way behind the Swift Dzire or a Mahindra Logan diesel in terms of refinement.

What we do appreciate is the CS’ improved ride. Tata engineers have played around with the spring rates (made them stiffer) and changed the viscosity of the oil in the dampers and this has made a world of difference. The biggest is the refined feel of the suspension. Handling too has improved, thanks to the suspension tweaks. Body roll is well controlled around corners, and minor adjustments to the steering have improved the on-centre feel, thereby taking the uncertainty out of where the car is heading in a corner. Bottom line, is it worth forking over money for? It meets the needs of interior space, has a boot, a peppy engine and overall fuel efficiency is good as well (15.05kpl). However, its equipment list is short, with only power steering and airconditioning as standard. It doesn’t have power windows, central locking or a rear defogger. The CS DiCOR is available only in this LS trim Model

Still rough around the edges, the Indigo CS DiCOR doesn’t quite hit the spot in terms of general quality and finesse. However, if you want a big car but are on a tight budget, this car delivers all the must-haves.

Legspace , power in Dicor, Improved Suspension,Fuel Efficiency.Outdated Bonnet Style, Bad Plastics, No Cent/Lock & Power windows.

It my new baby, the 6th i am driving in the last 13 years. the first diesel, the first Tata car. just two days since i am driving this baby, feels very good. Still premature to comment on milage, and this is something i found nobody mentions very clearly in their posts or reviews. I will surely post a review once i am through with a full tank. have already driven 200kms. Wonder whether all tata dealers are the same cs my buying experiance was ok. I BOUGHT THIS CAR. Nobody sold it to me. Well i am just comparing the experiance at any maruti/skoda/ford/hyundai showrood .. yes i did see all these cars, a Swift/fabia/fiesta/accent. Small things if you are ued to getting rapt attention/service/ pampered during your buying process will be missing if you are buying a tata car. Sir.Ratan Tata with absolute respect to you and beaing a great admirer of you and your group, a great beliver in the Indian growh story and the the ability of indian corporates to deliver quality products, i have only one request please sell these cars. I feel people buy these cars bcause there is value at a price and decent performance. While the others sell theitr cars aggressively at the dealer level i find this missing at leat at the dealer i bought. Sir with the great experiance your group has in the service induatry i am sure you understand - buying a car is also an experiance. Somebody in TATAS please do something abou this. And for guys buying this car get yourself updated abou the product. Dont buy a Indigo cs and expect a Fabia. Well it just costs a lac and a half more on road - base model and well you will hve to loosen your purse strings if something goes wrong.. Be patient may be small glithches. But believe me if the product was so bad you wont have so many taxi operators using the indigo afterall  they are sharp businessmen. Well i hope the indigo CS LS. will live up to my tempered expectations..The indigo CS seems to be good on all other counts say looks/ interiors/ blah blah. Honestly i feel people should talk or compare about all thest  only when you are buying a 9 to 10 lac plus car say Honda civic/Skoda /and so on.. At 4 to 6 lacs pls compare only basics. like space, maintinence cost, fuel economy etc. All the very best to you guys and please do wish me good luck with my new baby.

      Will keey you posted. Honestly

      continued day 6

still good. i am still driving around only in the western crowded suberb from where the new metro rail is orriginating. good. Have not been able to test the full potential of the car . just 3rd and max 4th gear.max speed 60/65. waiting to get out on the highway or drive on the expressway. well very soon. i got my car fitted with a blaupunk audio and central lock fron the car dealer itself. so i was left with seat covers/ sunfilm/ better mats/ car perfume. i have got these things done 6k.and the audio and celtral lock had cost me around 18 at the dealer. you could get it done at around 12/13 outside. wanted to go for mac wheels but the dealer fefused to buy back the old rims. so forget it. this is ok. from petrol to diesel - the car is heavier and sturdy. am  v comfortable. still not finished full tank so dont know milage. will keep u informed.

      cheers

      continued.---

got 9kmpl on full tank driving in cowded suberbs of mumbai. People said 12kmpl ???? I am told it will take time to achieve that milage as the car is new and i need to complete some more driving. I would have been jubiliant if it had given me 12 or 11. but still i am happy. Let's see how it shapes up. Rest all is perfect with the car. Will keep u informed on milage whether it improves of worsens. have driven 450. kms till now.

Please advise me if i am hoping against hopes with the milage,

      cheers

hi jimmy , no probs with manuvering in this traffic. I did not go for power windows b.cs i have a kid who is 2 yrs and he always occupies the front seat and fiddles around with the music system , a/c so i dont want hom to keep playing with the power window. If it malfunctions at some odd location or during rains i am stranded. I thought better to avoide it. thx

      hi

voila....am getting 11kmpl and am still driving in the conjusted trafic with ac.Due for my first service which is at 1000 kms. Absolutely perfect. No problems. Car has become smoother. am v happy. People i feel this is just getting better. Thanks for your response to my review, i am just trying to be pragmatic in my views and sharing my experiance as it is so that it could help someone to have more info on this car. I myself surfed the net to get reviews about this car when i was buying anf found information to be inadequate. While i doe not double anyone patritotism, honestly i didnt mean to invoke this to buy this car. The car has to be bought on it's merits.  Cheers.

hi-->1st service through. was late in going for the service due to personal reasons. V good experience at the service centre. Have driven 1900km. V.good no problems what so ever. Hope you guys do have a hassel free ride. Cheers

hi  --> 4000 kms . still very good. The car is smoother. No problems what so ever.Cheers.

hi -->jan2009 - 8100 kms- still very good - no problems what so ever. Am due for servicing at 10000 kms. Have just dome coolant top-up/power steering fluid top- up.Cheers.

25000 kms done - april 2010 - long distance highway drive milage 18+ city 10to11kms

I was looking for a car with good interior space that will fit into my parking lot. Indigo CS was the answer for that first criteria. Yes I have gone through Aveo UVA, Getz, Accent etc. before deciding on Indigo CS. Carwale reviews made me comfortable and I confirmed the order.

I was not at home when the car was delivered to check the car!! But after two weeks, yesterday I did a test run to Cherthala from Trivandrum and back [distance 300 km].  I was totally  satisfied  with the  experience. There  was not even a tiny little sound arising from the body except the sound of the car keys swaying and touching the dashboard. Kerala roads are infamous for the bad conditions. But the ride made me think that possibly they have repaired the whole stretch of road to my home!! The ride was so comfortable with zero bumps. The AC was working to great effect at minimum settings!! And the pick-up was also very good during overtaking etc. We never crossed 90 km speed and the car was very stable at 90 km speed. Suerly all the equipment on board was working perfectly like lamps, wipers etc. I havent looked at the milage I am getting, yet  I am am pretty sure that it is about 18-20 km. I will surely recommend this car for you.

      Dear Friends,
This was my first new car and i used to drive Maruti 800 myself till date.
My daily commute was 60Kms from home-office and back. As a typical Indan, was looking for a great VFM car and test drove Indigo CS(Ltd Edition), Grant Punto, Swift Dzire. I liked the initial torque with low RPM of Indigo TDI engine. My budget was 4.5-5.5 lakhs.
Fully agree the refinement and the noise levels are less in punto and dzire, but they were not fitting in my budget and i was OK to compromise on these aspects.
Also loved the features that came with Indigo CS Limited Edition which were as below:
      1. Wooden Steering wheel
      2. Leather Raped Gear
      3. Mirror mounted indicators
      4. Hight adjustable front seats
      5. Electrical adjustable mirrors
      6. Wooden console
      7. Keyless entry
All these costed me 5.6 lacs on road after some discount(Free Ins & Corp Disc)
Waiting time was 1 week and the delaer experience was satisfactory.
Have driven closed to 900 KMS till now and about mileage
15 Kms/Litre with AC all the time in City
19Kms/Litre with AC all the time in Highways

Overall its been a nice experience, had some noise under chasis in the first week but was fixed in just an hours time by the dealer.

Will write soon after first service is done.

      Happy and safe driving friends.

      Regards,
      Murali.V

GREAT VFMYet to find, will update soon

I own a cs and i found it to be very very poor in quality and refinement. Electricals are very moody kind wipers get jammed/stuck in rain. While taking a turn at 50 the back drifts and looses traction. The worst thing i found in the car is the brakes, they are very poor always skids off in highways during sudden braking never stops where we want always cross the limits and its a horrific experience, sometimes only the right front and rear left stops and the car stops in a diagonal line in a straight road. A/c is good to a certain extend. Plastic quality inside is very poor , shattering sounds are heard very often its like a part of the car. I upgraded the air flter with green cotton air filter results were better during the initial days better roll on accelration was found but now after 15000 kms it is not so good.
spaciouspoor quality interior plastics fit n finish

i bought this car for 4,83,000. I service my vehicle at Manipal automobiles, good after sales service. i have completed 5000 kms as of now. i would like to share my experience about this vehicle with you.

      CITY DRIVING:

Inside city, the vehicel is very good. Ac is very good, i get a mileage of 11km in heavy traffic , 12 km in normal city traffic. U turn inside city is very easy, as the Power steering is awesome. Also parking in the crowded area is also very easy like parking a mid-size car. Over all the car is worth for money.

      HIGH WAY DRIVING:

I have taken this vehicle in highways, the maximum speed in which the vehicle moves smooth and has good control is 80 - 100 kms / hour. When it crosses 100 km/ hr the vehicle is very shakky , response from shock absorbers is very bad in high speeds. But it gives good mileage in highway (18 kms).

      WHO CAN BUY THIS CAR:

Those who want cheaper running cost, this is the best vehicle for Office usage.

WHO SHOULD NOT BUY THIS CAR:

Those u often like to drive the vehicle in high speeds (100 - 130 kms). Also u expect a good shock absorber response, this is not a car to buy.

      OVER ALL VIEW:

Tata has done his job well for the price of Rs.4.98 lakhs. All that attracts is the Price .

Good sporty steering, Good style and mileageNo central locking, power windows, poor interiors, poor shock absorbers

i bought IndigoCS - LS 3 months back and is almost 3000 km run in 3 months. So i can summarize my experiences about the car here. This is my first car - so in a way no previous comparison, i was skeptical to buy a diesel engine but candidly petrol price, didn't allow me to buy a petrol vehicle. After 3 months, i think i have taken a good decision. As you get a sedan in price of a hatchback, the biggest advantage of indigocs is SPACE as compared to any other hatchback. this is one of the reason i didnt' go for swift as well, swift definitely looks more sleek but it is overpriced i think. indigocs looks good, especially that small boot is sexy. interiors though are not that elegant - but i knew i am buying indigo and not honda city - so interiors are just ok. mileage in the city i am getting 16 and haven't got the chance to go to highway. will be going to jammu(native) place from chandigarh(where i live now) in the month end. will let you know about the long drive good/bad things then. over all a great value of money car - it gives you a chance of own a sedan as your first car, which i had not even thought of before. I am facing one problem as well with the vehicle that the boot seems to be not fitting that well. everyday in office security persons need to open the boot for checking and there are quite a few occasions when they are not able to close it even after 4-5 tries. i am gonna get it checked on weekend - will update. Hi All - Dec-2 and i am back after a 750 kms long drive in 3 days. Well a first long drive in first car is indeed exciting. The mileage was 20! yes it gave 20 coz being the first time on highway i was in the range of 75-85. It was really smooth as i have traveled long distances in many maruti cars but this was quite smooth. Also got chance to ride with 5 persons and there you feel like there is some less power but over all journey was good. Now a few words of advice - from experience.. check the car properly inside out.. till now i have faced following issues - though all corrected - and i here i would like to contradict with all the reviews about tata service that they are not good. I always had a great treatment - they were available on sundays. 1. the boot - as written above not getting closed properly.. though had to go a different service center - but is fixed. 2. The break light -was too sensitive that even when you rest your feet on break pedal or when u leave it slowly it used to be on.. got that corrected as well. if you want a good spacious and most important - economical car, then this is the car! drive safely!stylish, economical and spaciousnot so elegant interiors

Exterior - Indigo CS has smooth exteriors with smart lines, smooth finish and sturdy looks. The tail lamps blend well with the car and does not look huge as in the regular Indigo. The use of chrome and twin head lamps gives the car a classy look. The space in the door panels, boot and bonnet is funny. the finish is not done quite well.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)- The AC and heater is very effective, spacious at the rear with three people sitting at the rear seat. The plastic quality is poor and not finish and fit well. There are spaces which could be annoying at times and rattle at low speeds and draw unwanted attention. The rear shockers barging out in the boot kills the space. Seats are however very comfortable with lot of cushion. The most awkard is the steering which is too high and the hand rest on the doors and too low. On a long drive, the shoulders would develop pain. Steering is also too big for the car.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox - Engine is quite impressive and delivers good power at 1800 rpm and above with the TDI Engine. Although it is a slow starter but once the turbo kicks in the difference is easily felt and the car accelerats pretty well. Mileage is the biggest asset of this car. I have driven this from chennai to ooty and the car gave a return mileage of 21 km/ltr with AC was a superlative performance. Like most readers i too was flabbergasted and thought that the fuel meter must not be working. I was proved wrong when the car took only what was used. Shifting gears is not smooth and requires to push the pedal -clutch a couple of times. Power on top speed is a concern. Steering wheel is very light at high speed. Need to be careful as with a gust of wind or slight movement the car can actually pull you onto the oncoming traffic. The ride and handling of the car is pretty impressive. The drag can be experienced at high speeds and turns.

Final Words Very comfortable, good handling and ride quality. Superb AC. Visibility is great, thanks to the double barrel head lamps. Fog lamps too does a great job in illuminating the road. Sturdy and reliable.

Areas of improvement  - NVH - noise due to poor fit and finish is definitely an area of improvement. Lower the height of the steering wheel and have it replaced with a smaller steering wheel. Placement of the rear shockers intelligently might improve storage space.

Excellent fuel economy, space at the rear, brakes, handlingrattling sound, plastics, panel space,
