Renault has unveiled a F1 inspired version of its Twizy EV. The car has been created by Renaultsport engineers and was previewed via teaser last week. It is based on the standard EV and has some cosmetic changes as well as mechanical changes in the form of a KERS system currently used in Formula 1 cars.
The KERS system uses up the space at the back where two seats sit and adds 33kgs to the car but provides a boost of 79bhp that is available all the time. The system has been designed in such way that it can draw power from the 17bhp electric motor also. Reports suggest that a nitrous oxide boost power by about 40 per cent, a supercharger can give you a boost of 100 per cent. The KERS on the Twizy F1 gives you a boost of 400 per cent! The KERS system can be accessed on the fly via a boost button on the Formula Renault inspired steering wheel.
The car has also been fitted with a special body kit that includes a front lip wing and a rear diffuser. The car sports an original Renault f1 yellow and black livery inspired from the turbocharged era. It is unlikely that the car every come into production but gives us a glimpse of what Renault can do when given a free hand with its F1 technology.
