The Alliance of Nissan, Renault, and the recently added Mitsubishi has revealed their new six-year plan called ‘Alliance 2022’. The Alliance 2022 focuses on pure electric vehicles, autonomy, shared platform and powertrains along with ride-sharing tech. The Alliance also launched a new logo at the occasion.
Under the Alliance 2022 plan, the carmaker has set a new target of doubling the annual synergies to 10 billion euros by the end of the plan. These three carmakers will increase their use of a common platform. A total of nine million vehicles by these three carmakers are projected to be based on their four shared platforms. The plan will also extend the use of common powertrains to 75 percent of the total vehicles sold.
The shared powertrains will also expand to the electric vehicles. No less than 12 pure electric vehicles have been proposed for launching by 2022. All of them will have a common electric platform and components, regardless of the segment the EV belongs to. Along with it, over 40 vehicles with different levels of autonomy are on the cards. Under the Alliance 2022 banner, the carmakers also plan to venture into ‘robo-vehicle ride-hailing’ services as a part of the new mobility services strategy.
Speaking about the Alliance 2022, Carlos Ghosn, chairman and chief executive officer of the Alliance, said: “To achieve the target (annual synergies of 10 billion Euros), on one side Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors will accelerate collaboration on common platforms, powertrains and next-generation electric, autonomous and connected technologies. From the other side, synergies will be enhanced by our growing scale. Our total annual sales are forecast to exceed 14 million units, generating revenues expected at 240 billion dollars by the end of the plan. With Alliance 2022, we will prove that we will grow and perform with three companies or more.”
