Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming premium hatchback, the YRA, has been spied once again. While the YRA has been photographed completely undisguised before, these comprehensive set of spy shots give us a definitive view of the car’s interior for the first time.
On the outside, the YRA’s design draws inspiration from the Suzuki iK-2 Concept. The front gets a V-shaped chrome-lined grille with a honeycomb design. The ORVMs integrate side indicators and the car rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. The car in these photographs is a left-hand-drive version, though we can safely assume the Indian-spec version to adopt a similar layout.
We can see a ‘Y-theme’ in the interior of the YRA hatchback. It gets a blacked-out interior with chrome accents on the dashboard and the buttons. A touchscreen display sits in the centre console. The three-spoke multi-function steering wheel integrates audio controls as well as the cruise control. The instrument cluster gets an MID screen between the speedometer and the rev counter. Other creature comforts include a start/stop button, automatic climate control and a dead pedal.
The petrol variants of the YRA will be available with either a 1.2-litre or a 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine, while the diesel variants will be offered with the 1.3-litre MultiJet unit. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, though we can also expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the AMT gearbox in some variants.
Though Maruti Suzuki hasn’t divulged any details about the car, we expect the Delhi-based manufacturer to launch the YRA, with a different production-feasible moniker during the festive season, this year. The YRA will compete with other premium hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo and the upcoming Honda Jazz.
