Mercedes has been working on its bio-fuel cars for a long time and they have met with great success too. The cars have scaled up the heights of even the Himalayas. So with this, it can be established that bio-fuel is actually a good alternative to conventional sources of power.
I am sure there is more good news in store for not only the German marque, but us - normal blokes as well. Kakinada, a not-so-heard-of place of our country will be the buzz-word for years to come. The reason? India's first bio-diesel plant is coming alive in this very place. Naturol Bioenergy is going to start with the production of the 'environment-friendly' fuel. The catch? The complete annual production of 30 million gallons of bio-diesel is up for export and the US of A is going to gain of our supplies along with some European nations.
These are the days when the crude is selling at insanely high prices and bio-diesel presents itself as an attractive and cheaper alternative. And for now, it is the "West" which is working towards making their air 'clean', but we hope that Indian manufacturers take a leaf out of this and pull their sleeves up to work towards developing cars that would run on alternate sources of fuel, bio-diesel being one of them. And now that we have a facility which supplies the same, it might actually get some more bigger players like IOCL, HP, Reliance etc to get into the act seriously.
The bio-diesel that Naturol is making from Jatropha plant is manufactured using Belgian technology. The most advantageous part is that the stock diesel engine will require no modification to run on bio-diesel.
There are companies like Suzlon and Moser Baer which are working towards capitalizing on wind energy and solar energy respectively. So we can expect a lot of power alternatives being offered to the customer with the same car!
The best thing? Our children would breathe better air that we have been inhaling thus far. Is it not something to work towards? Damn, it sure is!
