The all-new Nissan Qashqai 2014 was revealed by the Japanese automaker last week and today Nissan has released pricing and specification details for the second-generation crossover. Starting from £17,595 (Rs 17.78 lakh) and rising to £27,845 (Rs 28.19 lakh) the new Qashqai is more expensive than the outgoing model but this time the overall package is set to deliver more.
The second-generation Nissan Qashqai is a much more attractive package, more fuel-efficient engines and with better interiors than before. Interestingly, the first-generation Qashqai was considered a perfect example of the crossover concept and has been the most-successful Nissan model till date.
The four familiar trim levels remain in the new Nissan Qashqai: entry-level Visia, Acenta, Acenta Premium and Tekna. Visia models start at £17,595 (Rs 17.78 lakh) and rise to £22,395 (Rs 22.67 lakh) with standard kit including Bluetooth, hill start assist, cruise control, LED daytime running lights and air conditioning.
From launch four new turbocharged engines all with stop-start technology will be made available, in two petrol and two diesel variants. Likely to be the most popular is a revamped version of the 109bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine. A more powerful 128bhp 1.6-litre diesel motor is available, which can also be specified with four-wheel-drive and a new Xtronic CVT automatic gearbox. Petrol power comes in the form of an all-new 113bhp 1.2-litre turbo engine, while the most powerful engine available in the new Qashqai is a 148bhp 1.6-litre turbo.
The cabin is very similar to that of other Nissan products like X-Trail and the Rogue and the change in the interiors is also visible distinctly. Top-spec models get leather and Alcantara trim to emphasise this premium feel, but the improvements extend to a greater use of soft-touch materials right down to the bottom of the range.
The vehicle is expected go on sale in February 2014, however, there is no official confirmation regarding its India debut.
