Volkswagen rolls out 2,00,000th car in India

Volkswagen India has rolled out the 2,00,000th unit from the Chakan facility in Pune. The company which represents three brands in India – Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi has been doing quite well since the time it arrived here. The Chakan plant of VW used to produce the VW Polo, Vento and also the Skoda Rapid and the Fabia. The company also exports the Vento sedan to RHD drive market of South Africa from this facility.

Volkswagen is now planning to commence exports to left hand drive markets in Africa and Middle East soon. Incidentally, the landmark example is also the first left hand drive version of the Vento made in India. 

Speaking on the occasion VW group’s chief representative, Dr John Chacko said, “Our export of the Vento to South Africa confirms that we are able to produce high quality cars in India at competitive costs. This shows our potential to further extend our export to new markets in the Middle East and African countries.”
