Audi R8 Spyder rendered

When Audi unveiled the second-generation R8 earlier this year, there were no two ways about the fact that a convertible version would soon follow the suit. While the launch of the Audi R8 Spyder is still a while away, a new speculative rendering has been circulating over the internet, giving us a glimpse of how the upcoming supercar will look like. 

Like its predecessor, the new R8 Spyder is expected to be identical to the coupe in every aspect, except for the roof. The new R8 Spyder will be based on the same Audi Space Frame chassis from the coupe, though it will get extra strengthening to compensate for the loss of rigidity due to the lack of a fixed roof. Powering the R8 Spyder will be a retuned version of the previous car’s V10 engine, produces 540bhp and 540Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and it sends power to all four wheels through the Quattro all-wheel drive system.

The German manufacturer has so far refrained from announcing any details about the R8 Spyder. Reports suggest that the convertible will be unveiled by the end of this year as a 2016 model, with production expected to commence by early 2016.
