An auto-show is
what most of the auto-makers eagerly wait for to showcase their best and the latest machines. The Frankfurt Motor Show has been no different and has seen everything from exotics to concepts, and somewhere in between were the looks-production-ready kind of cars. And some of them might come to our land as well!
2009 Audi A4:
introduced in the 'western' world by Three years and over a billion dollars. That's what has gone in the development of the 2009 Audi A4. The German major has always been known for quality, safety and build. But the corporate mantra will be shifting towards what BMW and Mercedes have been famed for - performance, technology and driving dynamics. This does not mean that the typical Audi strenghts will be overlooked, no. This fifth generation Audi A4 will be September 2008 and we hope for its launch in India soon after. Though nothing is confirmed yet, the A4 might be offered with two petrol engines which includes a 3.2L V6 turbocharged motor. The car will come equipped to the roof, as expected from an Audi. Merc and BMW should be worried.
2008 Audi A8:
Aluminum space-frame, Quattro all-wheel-drive system, adaptive air suspension, W12 engine. Phew! That already makes it a car that would leave you with a gaping mouth. The second generation A8 in its fifth year of production promises to be more aggressive. The 'beard face' will make it stand seperate from the Merc S and the BMW 7. Inside, there are enough gizmos and buttons to keep you occupied for the better part of the day. The 4.2L FSI V8 engine delivers 350 horses while the W12 in the A8 L (longer wheelbase version) will have a power output of simply colossal 450PS. A couple of diesel engine will also be offered. Comfort, luxury and presence - adjective that fit to the A8 with aplomb.
2009 BMW X6:
The X5 is good. Very good. It has got presence too. But will you just look at this thing! The X6 is based on the second-generation X5 and has a bold, come-in-my-way-only-to-get-swallowed kind of styling. This SUV is aimed at being what a SUV should be, while also being a sports-car. Now, we all know of BMW's obsession with power, so a 3L inline six cylinder engine with a power rating of over 300 ponies sounds fine. But a 4.8L V8 with some 410 horses is... mad! Consider this - it is a SUV with a wheelbase of over 2900mm. It stands about 1700mm tall and is about 1980mm wide. And it will have 410PS of power! Now that's quite a lot. Diesel motors will only be an obvious offering and a 235ps and 286PS version of a 3L oil burner will be doing duty in the X6. To compete against the likes of Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Range Rover Sport, BMW might also offer a 5L V10 507PS engine. 507! As if 410 horses at your disposal were not enough. Thank goodness that this engine will not come to India. Some are calling this manic SUV as Sports Activity Coupe, we can only but nod in agreement with them. Add 'MAD' in that three letter term and the picture will be complete.

Suzuki Splash:
Maruti is now looked as a maker of contemporary cars and the Splash will only add to that. This small car that will further strenghten Maruti's presence in India. A 1L, 65PS engine will be complimented by a 1.3L diesel motor while a 1.2L, 86PS unit will offer sufficient poke to make it a hot-hatch. You will read more about this one soon.
Nissan Qashqai:
Good design, pleasing looks, and a choice of a diesel and a petrol engine. The Qashqai looks set to enter India with a bang and further compliment Nissan's presence in our nation.
