After previewing it through several teaser images, McLaren has now taken the wraps off its Geneva-bound model. Called the 675LT, this new model apparently puts clear focus on performance, being lightweight and on driver engagement.
The 675LT will be offered as a coupe only. When launched, it will be the most track-focused model in McLaren’s Super Series range of models which includes the 650S and the Asia-specific 625S with a power to weight ratio that eclipses established rivals.
The design highlight of the 675LT is the active ‘Longtail’ airbrake which is 50 per cent bigger than the one fitted to the 650S, yet due its carbon fibre structure, is actually lighter. It’s one of the enhancements that add up to a dry weight of just 1,230kg, says McLaren.
McLaren has confirmed that more than 50 per cent of parts have been changed in the 3.8-litre V8 engine for increased levels of power, torque and drivability. Upgrades include more efficient turbos, changes to the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds, new camshaft and lightweight connecting rods, and a faster-flowing fuel pump. Thanks to these upgrades, the sprint from zero to 100kmph takes just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 330kmph.
Besides the 675LT, McLaren is also expected to showcase the extreme P1 GTR next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
