Volvo previews the interiors of 2015 XC90

Volvo has given us the first glimpse of the interiors of the next-generation XC90. The Swedish car manufacturer has released a batch of images as well as videos of the interiors of the second-generation premium SUV. More images and details of the 2015 XC90 are expected to be revealed ahead of the global unveiling of the SUV at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. 

Speaking about the car’s new interiors, Peter Mertens, senior VP, Research and Development, Volvo Cars said, “Our new interior architecture is pure and uncluttered, while still radiating the sophisticated confidence and formality that luxury SUV customers expect.”

The images show that the new XC90 will get a clean clutter-free design for the dashboard which seems to be influenced by the Concept Estate, unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The centre console is dominated by a large touch-screen armed with the latest infotainment software, which will control a majority of the functions in the car. For the comfort of the passengers, Volvo has added a new four-zone climate system with clean zone air purification system which offers individual settings for the first and the second row. 

The seats offer a number of adjustments with power operation, including adjustable side bolsters, seat cushion extension, lumbar support and the headrests. “The full seat core has an ergonomic shape that resembles the human spine. A multitude of adjustment possibilities makes it possible for the individual user to create an ideal seating position,” added Robin Page, interior design director, Volvo Cars.

The next-gen Volvo XC90 will be based on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which was first previewed in the Volvo Concept XC Coupe at the 2014 NAIAS. This platform will be suitable across multiple segments and help in enhancing the safety of the car. For the global markets, the new XC90 will be powered by the Drive-E family of EU6 compliant engines, which will replace the current six and eight-cylinder engine. A plug-in hybrid variant is also being developed. 

We can expect more details and pictures of the 2015 Volvo XC90 to be revealed as the unveiling date draws near. The XC90 will be launched in India around four months after the car’s international launch. Volvo currently sells five models in India, all of which are imported as CBUs. The Swedish car maker had recently revealed its strategy to strengthen its position in India and achieving 10,000 units in sales by 2018. The company plans to launch the new XC60 and the S60 in India this year and will also start assembling its cars locally at the upcoming facility in Karnataka, which should help lower the prices.
