2014 Beijing Motor Show: Audi TT off-road concept unveiled

Audi has unveiled its TT off-road concept at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. As the name suggests, it is based on the third generation of the German automaker’s quite successful sportscar which, it had hinted last year, would be expanded past the two-door model.

The vehicle combines the sportiness of the TT design but with all the required Butch like higher ground clearance and taller wheels to give the larger size. However, a closer examination reveals that it is basically a TT with a higher stance but also closely resembles the Q3 in terms of overall stance but is eight cm lower. Given that it now appears to be a larger vehicle, Audi has increased the size of various design elements like the grille and flared wheel arches accordingly.

The TT off-road concept joins Audi’s e-tron family as a hybrid model. It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 293bhp and 380Nm of torque. The petrol unit has been mated to two electric motors that produce an additional 114bhp and 270Nm of torque. Together, they produce a whopping 407bhp and 650Nm of torque making the TT off-road concept a capable companion to take the ‘path less travelled’. 

However, even on the road, it can do 0-100kmph in 5.2 seconds and then go on to hit a top speed of 250kmph/80kmph when running solely on electric power. On electric power alone it will do 50kmph while in hybrid mode it has a range of 880km.

The crossover market is a bandwagon that everyone is jumping onto and it only seemed logical as well as eventual that it would start adding more models in the design to its range. Will we get to see the car in India? There is a high probability it will arrive in production form thanks to our sudden surge and interest in crossovers.
