Ssangyong Motor, part of Mahindra Group, announced its best ever sales since its establishment in 2002. The sales number increased by 20 per cent as 1,45,649 cars were sold in 2013.
The domestic sales saw a hike of 34.1per cent with 63,970 units sold, while 81,649 cars were sold overseas showing a growth of over 11per cent. Reports show that the company exports crossed the 80,000 mark for the first time.
Ssangyong has been showing good sales incline ever since Mahindra & Mahindra acquired the South Korean sports utility carmaker. The demand for its products is increasing gradually. The portfolio of the automaker is being widened globally with its newly launched products.
If latest developments are to be believed, Ssangyong aims to sell three lakh vehicles in a year. To enter the US market with a different name is what seems to be Mahindra’s latest strategy.
Currently, only the Ssangyong Rexton is available in the Indian car market via the CKD route and is assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan facility. The company unveiled the Rodius MPV and the Rexton 2.0 along with the concepts, the LiV-1 and XIV-1 at the Auto Expo 2014. We can expect the carmaker to add a few more cars to its the Indian line-up soon.
