On the eve of the New Year, we reported about Skoda’s next-generation Superb, this time its the Fabia in news. The 2015 Fabia will be shown at the Paris Motor Show in October this year and will be launched in 2015.
Skoda chief Winfred Vahland said that the new Fabia will be the first VAG company's super mini to utilise the NVQ platform (Skoda’s moniker for the MQB platform). The Fabia will be longer by 50mm but still ducks under the four metre mark. He also added that they don’t want the current Fabia buyers to be estranged but the next generation car will appeal to a young car-buying audience and is expected to carry styling cues from the S2000 rally car.
The Fabia was discontinued in India last year owing to poor sales and it is unknown when the next generation Fabia will make it to India, but we can surely expect it within six months from its global launch. The Fabia, for India, might be powered by the 1.2-litre TSI motor and an all-new 1.5-litre oil burner under-development mated to manual and DSG automatic gearboxes. Importantly, the third generation Fabia will be a sub-four metre car, this will help Skoda avail the small car benefits and using the NVQ platform will ensure it can be priced competitively too.
