CarWale Comparison: Hyundai Grand i10 vs i20 vs i10

We are just two days away from the launch of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the emergence of a new pecking order for the Korean automakers hatchback clan. While the same vehicle is being called the new i10 for the European markets and will replace the current car there, it will slot in between current i10 and i20 here in India. In the run up to the launch, we compare all three cars to see how they fare up against each other.

The newest member of the trio gets the newest diesel mill. The Grand i10 is powered by a new three-cylinder 1.1-litre oilburner that produces 71PS of power and 159Nm of torque, while the i20 uses a 1.4-litre mill that produces 89PS and 219Nm of torque. The i20 is a significantly larger and heavier vehicle, which would explain the larger engine and consequently the higher output.

The current i10 on the other hand is without a diesel mill and now thanks to the new hierarchy we should expect that Hyundai would drop the prices of base petrol and LPG variants very soon. However, it must be noted that the Grand i10 is being offered without an automatic gearbox and option that is available with both the i10 and the i20, but this most likely due to the fact that AT on both cars is a rather ancient four-speed auto. It is likely that Hyundai is working on a new gearbox and will launch it with the new i20 (currently undergoing testing) and consequently the Grand i10.

Hyundai Grand i10 vs i20

The Grand i10 is larger than the current i10 in all aspects including the wheelbase making it a significantly roomier car. It is almost as big as the i20 which by itself is one of the most spacious cars in its segment. We expect that such specifications will also influence pricing of the new car significantly and going by what is presented to us, it will be priced between the current i10 and the i20

The Grand i10 scores quite high over its siblings in terms of features being offered. New features on this car include rear AC vents, cooled glove box, push button start, power outlet for the rear seats and a one GB internal storage for the 2-DIN music system (Sportz and Asta). While some of these features are available in the i20, they are a segment first for the Grand i10 and should set a trend for what to expect in the future. We can also expect that some of the features will be offered as optional extras on the current i10.

Hyundai Grand i10 vs i10

We expect that the Grand i10 will be priced Rs one lakh more than the equivalent variant of the current i10 in terms of petrol mills. However, the diesel variant pricing is what we are eagerly anticipating. We will be bringing you live updates from the launch on September 3 so stay tuned to CarWale for all the details from the event.
