The selection of a car has become complicated with the launches of various new models and variants.Having used to a Maruti (800,Esteem,Wagon R) for a long time it was kind of uneasy to look elsewhere.SX4 of Maruti felt good but they do not offer a diesel engine yet.

I value economy and reliability apart from ride and handling as key factors in selecting a car.Fiesta and Verna were good but not impressive considering the prices as well for top end models.I could not even get to see an Aveo, let alone test drive! An MUV was not even in my thoughts as I regarded them as bulky and unwieldy.A Mahindra FC person suggested a test drive of Xylo during a debate about used cars.

The test drive via Triplicane,Mount Road, beach Road was thrilling. The car handled like a sedan. The seating, view, steering, drive, turning etc were superb. My biggest apprehension of driving through crowded city roads vanished all at once! The car seemed majestic with the front grille reminiscent of the Jeep legacy.Though the price of E2 was attractive I opted for the extra safety of the ABS E8 version.Even at Rs.9 laks Xylo is a winner with top models of Innova costing 2-3 laks more.Whether clocking highway miles or hitting out with pot holed roads in Cities the car would come out winner. The ample space inside and the plush seating could give you the comfort of your drawing room.

Several years back, when driving around with German colleagues they used to tease me to show cars designed and made by Indians.I am proud to offer them a drive today should they get back here again!

My impressions are based on only about 1300+km drive within Chennai city limits. The mileage is about 10km average.I am surprised why M&M is not offering 4WD as they have sold 4WD jeeps in sub 5 lak prices.

Good handling,Spacious interiors,Luxury seating,SUV/Jeep styled,Value for moneyMileage could be better,so are the interior plastics,4WD option not available

      Dear Guys,

First of all hats of to Mahindra for producing a world class product which is excellent value for money . The build quality, paint job , and aesthetics on exterior are all much better than muvs in that price range and even better than innova.

Interiors are the best in in its category , much better than Innova , more spacious , easier to ingress the quality of platics is much better than , tata sumo and tavera alomost on par with innova ( remember innova is min 3 lacs expensive)

For a mahindar engine it does not feel like a typical diesel engine , however gear shifting is slightly smooth in innova compared to xylo , but that advantage in my opinion is not too huge to sway someone to innova , fuel econony is any day better than innova , min 11 with ac on in city traffic.Gear box and engine sound very very smooth.

Ride quality is a notch less than innova , however xylo is a much easier car to handle , when compared to innova .

For a above average middle class man , who can afford a car , xylo is the ideal dream MUV , INNOVA CAN NEVER BE A OWNER DRIVEN CAR , A XYLO IS DEFINITELY ONE . and remember innova is 3 lacs costly and many people have not seen the kind of bills it runs when u take it tio a service centre .

I hope this has been useful to people trying to make a decision on purchasing a xylo

EXCELENT COMFORT, SPACE, EASY TO RIDE , GREAT ROAD VIEW, AND MUCH MOREREAR VIEW IS POOR , MAYBE SHAPE

Bougth this car afer research for about 8 months. I had a budget of Rs.10/- lakhs and vetted options like used ford endeavour, innova, Tuscan new Tavera, scorpio, safari. Finally zeroed down on Xylo.

Exterior People find it hard to digest the looks for this car and same was the case with me. But one gets used to the looks and with some exterior accessories like sky racks, sproiler, etc and graphics, the car looks nice. I though it wise to give highter weightage for utility than looks.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) I dont think any other car in Indian car market comes closer to this one in terms of comfortably seating 7+1 adults and taking them hundreds of miles without feeling worn out.  Seats are comfortable and suspension is superb. The smart utilities provided in the car are best in the class. They make you feel happy everytime you use them.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is little brawny and noisy outside compared to innova and safari at the same time its more powerful than innova. Gear shift is also little hard, but one gets used to it. Fuel economy in city with AC is 11km and that on highways is between 14-16 km, depending upon drive. So on highways, the cost per km per passenger comes to less than 50 paisa...what else con one expect.

Ride Quality & Handling This remains one area of concern. Its scary to take sharp turns at high speeds. you feel like you would be thrown out of the vehicle. The sway is too high and even the vehicle driver coming from opposite side gets scared. So you can call it a blessing in disguise. But Xylo's high ground clearance can help you get through rough terrain and ocassional offroading one may be subljed to.

Final Words Overall its a good value for money car. What needs to be seen is Mahindra service support and spare costs.

      Areas of improvement NA.

Exterior - Looks like a box on wheels...needs some redeseigning in the rear end...

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Excellent space inside. Features are really deseigned thoughfully. However the standard ones need to work as well.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine is very responsive and the fuel econonmy for a vehicle this size is very good. The gear could be a little refined. When you run the vehicle needs to shift to a lower gear, the gear handle shakes to violently it resembles a lorry. Kindof unexpected for the intended users. Unless Mahindra is expecting people who use lorries to move to an MPV.

      Ride Quality & Handling

The vehicle is smooth as long as the road is. The minute the road gets rough the ride gets rougher for the rear seat passenger. I was being driven around for sometime and I used to occupy the rear seat. The shakes were so violent that I have developed body ache.

      Final Words

The vehicle is an honest attempt by Mahindra to make a vehicle for the passenger segment. I think it needs a lot of rework in areas of instrumentation, HVAC , plastics , seats and most importantly the suspension.

Just to share my exp. which may be a unique.

Soon after I bought the vehcle my remote was not working and had to be sent back to workshop for reprogramming. I also realised that the fuel indicator was not working. It would need a full day to show correct fuel level after refuelling. After another 1000 KM my AC was leaking water inside the car as though someone had opened the tap. again had to be sent to workshop.

My digital information system works when it feels like. even today after close to 8000km and 3 months of usage.

If your intention by buying Mahindra is to encourage local manufacturing please go ahead and buy one today. JAI Hind,

Gear box is slightly rusty, engine slightly noisy like any usual diesel car and economy good for its class

      Ride Quality & Handling

smooth, excellent for city as well as high-way rides, excellent controll,

      Final Words

I purchased this car in Jan'12 and till now i have hit around 4000 km.  I've been to salem, seerkazhi etc. and i really loved the drive.

It is very sturdy and safe to sit on the wheel.  It gives an excellent road view.  It is smooth and silky u would not feel even if u touched 140 km speed.

For its size it is quite easy to manouver in the city and has got excellent torque.

Its suspension is very good u wont feel much jerk even on bumpy roads.

Happy that i bought one and hats off to MAHINDRA TEAM FOR COMING OUT WITH COST EFFECTIVE BEAUTY WHICH MADE MULTINAIONAL GIANTS LIKE  TOYOTA TO SIT AND WATCH WITH AWE

      Exterior

Good. Does not look 'boxy' as to its predecessors

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Parents aged 80 and kids : 6 of us enjoyed every moment inside it over the 2000 odd kms ride in last 5 days. I rank it better than Innova, Ertiga, Enjoy, and all vehicles 6 seater plus presently in India.

In the present boot I could carry 3 mid size suitcases easily. One suitcase with one bag and tits-bits could easily find space beneath the 3rd row seat. Middle row also can accomdate a few small bags beneath the seats.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine Excellent. minimum noise in low gear. Glides in 4th and 5th Gear. Gave me an average of 12.5 - 13.5 at a speed of 100 - 120 with full load and AC. Touched 14.5 at 80-90 km/hr. And got 18 km/ltr w/o AC on hilly terrain. Could easily manovare uphill even in third gear.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Superb. The oldies or the kids in the last row did not feel tired even after 12 hrs at a stretch of travelling. Having covered 600 kms I could go on for 400 kms more.

      Final Words

If you are looking for a SUV with all features and also a family car - go for the New Xylo

      Areas of improvement

There is more than required leg room in the middle row.  These seats can be moved a bit ahead keeping the same space between the 2nd and 3rd row seats - to create even more boot space.

Everything : features, ride quality, comfort, road presence, handling, fuel economy, value for moneynone as of now

Mahindra Xylo E8 (with ABS) Review. I am an owner of the Xylo E8 variant and I am madly in love with the car, which has satisfied me to the core with everything it has to offer. The Xylo is a car which takes u by storm the first time you take a ride on it. The xylo which comes in the MUV segment of cars, according to me is one of the finest vehicles made by an Indian car maker and it is destined to rule in its segment of cars. This car comes handy with a number of features which are very attractive with the consumers and that is the point where the Xylo stands alone on the top of the MUV segment. The Xylo built in such a way to suit the dirver and passenger for comfort and a safe drive. ENGINE: The Xylo consists of the proven M-eagle engine from the old Scorpio which is in the first place why the car is so good as far as performance is concerned. The engine is very powerful and the pick up of the car is also amazing. The car zooms in front, at a signal when the lights turn green and this shows the amazing power of this vehicle. The car is also good at fuel efficiency and gives a mileage of 10-11 km/l on city roads and 13-14 km/l on highways, and this seems to be pretty decent considering the conditions of our beloved Indian roads. Safety: The Xylo has a number of safety features installed in the car and this enables the safety of the passengers and the driver and also reliable drive. The Xylo has the ABS system of braking (for the E8 variant) which once applied on even high speeds makes the car halt the moment it is applied. Speaking of personal experience 3 months ago when I was on my way to Pune from Bombay via the old highway, the speed of my car was around 80-90 kmph and when suddenly I saw the truck on the other lane, took a left and came on to my lane without any prior indicator and then was when I applied my brakes and the car came to a halt from 80-90 kmph to zero. The other features are the tubeless tires which are nowadays preferred to the tube ones and also the car has Air bags available in it. All these features make the drive safe and secure. Other Safety Features: The Xylo also has the added features of the engine immobilizer and also the Intellipark reverse assist, which allows the driver to take an accurate reverse action and this features signals any obstacles present in the way while taking the reverse. Interior: The interiors provided are very comfortable and helps the passengers to travel with ease, even on long journeys, The space provided have ample leg room and can accommodate upto seven people at a time inclusive of the driver. The ac inside of the car is a powerful one and one can experience a chilling experience even when the regulator is turned at a minimum level 2. I haven’t ever noticed such a powerful ac in any of the cars in the same segment as the Xylo. Price: The Xylo has upto 4 variants such as the E2, E4, E6, & E8. I own a Xylo E8 which I got it at 8.7 L, from Mumbai. Previously before getting the Xylo I had considered purchasing an Innova, but when I compared both these cars and found out that the features in a Xylo and an Innova are not that different but the price factor played a major role, as the xylo is almost 2.L cheaper than the Innova. Conclusion: The xylo, taking all the features and price under consideration is a complete family vehicle and also it gives the right value for the amount of money spent on a car like thismileage, comfort, reliability, strengthi couldn't find any

I had been planning to buy a replacement for my old Esteem since an year. I was not sure what to go for.. i had to choose between Xylo, Innova & Tavera as I wanted a car which would be ideal for everything, would be rugged & luxurious at the same time.

Although, i didn't consider fuel economy initially, the good mileage that Xylo gives has made me quite happy. Xylo has really innovative and convenient features which I am attached to, now, especially the flat-bed seats, which is the most luxurious feature I've seen in an Indian car. I didnt like the looks of the Xylo in pictures but in reality it looks beautiful & sporty at the same time. I dont like the rear part though. Sides have a step to help get comfortably in and out of the car. Its a tall & a HUGE car which makes it extremely spacious. The audio system is average but the only drawback is that to get into the last row i have to fold the middle row seat, it cannot be done while driving.

The boot is helpful only when the seats are folded. The car has been pretty well built and I feel it when I'm driving. I did take some time to learn driving through corners as I was used to the small esteem. the plastic quality is average but I'm not complaining since its not a BMW or something :)

The Engine is very powerful, silent & efficient so the Xylo accelerates smoothly. Gear shifting could be better. The parking assist device is brilliant and very helpful. The steering control is decent. Also being a Mahindra vehicle, its very good offroad too, which was expected.

The ABS is a great addition and has improved the braking feature.

The 2.5 litre m-hawk engine feels much more powerful than the Innova (yes, i test-drove it too) Engine response is good maybe because Mahindra has been making some diesel engines of late. it gives a mileage of 13kmpl even in difficult conditions which was a pleasant surprize..

To conclude, Xylo stands for Luxury, performance & versatility as it is an MUV after all. Although I wish I had waited since I heard they have just lauched a new variant with Airbags. also I have to say that what made me finalize my decision is that the top E8 Version is 3 lakhs cheaper than the top end Innova!

Luxury, performance, versatility, Flat-bed Seats, absRear look, should have waited for Airbags variant

Exterior - The Looks was not good from outside but have come to like it once I bought my vehicle and started driving it around. (Diamond white E-8 ABS)

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) - The sapce and comfort are the USP of this vehicle. You feel very comfortable even in the last seat. The Interiors should have been better ie the plastic parts which are not finished well and look tacky. The drawer below the driver seat is also of poor quality. Otherwise theer are a lot of good features included in the car like the cabin lights, the glove compartment, the rear view mirror with park assist (far better than teh Innova's), the laptop trays, chargers, the second ac.. to name a few.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox - Engine performance is excellent with superb pickup and smoothness especially if you take care to run in well during the initial 3000 km as recommended. Fuel economy is about 11 in city driving with ac. Yet to check out the long distance mileage.

Ride Quality & Handling - The ride quality and handling are excellent especially with the ABS.

Final Words - This vehicle is an excellent buy if you are looking for a comfortable ride on the Indian roads. I am satisfied iwth my experienc so far.

Areas of improvement - Mahindra have already improved on the Interiors with the Anniversary edition of the Zylo. Gear shift should be more smooth. Sometimes the Gear lever is a bit finicky. The door knobs are some times a little troublesome as well.

Cabin space, Comfortable seats with lumbar support, Good Engine, Rear Park Assist, Dealer response,Bad Interiors, Cheap Tacky Plastics, Occasional door knob toruble,

I have yesterday testdrive the Xylo. fealt good. acs and seats are very comfortable, even in the last row i 6ft person can seat very easily. Yes the only thing is No ABS neither Airbags. If that would have present then it would be an ultimate car. Also fealt tyre pressure was not upto the mark as the car was buggling the way i drove and during brakes, the way i was driving on water.. Good Car if every thing taken care...Good Interior, Spacious 3rd row, PowerfullNo ABS, No Airbags
