Honda Brio, my first ever car, zeroed out after a lot of research and test drives. I learnt driving just a month before buying Brio and I can tell you that I couldn't have chosen a better car. Smooth steering, small turning radius, excellent visibility makes Honda a very easy car to drive.

I decided to buy Brio after getting a test drive by Magnum Honda, Kankpura road, Bangalore.
Three reasons to pick a Honda Brio -
~ Very spacious inside, yes, with good leg space too.
~ Max power of 87 bhp and good mileage(13-14 kmpl in city)
~ And ofcourse the killer looks!

I decided to pick the S(MT) Model which comes without ABS and SRS airbags. Magnum Honda refused to give me any discount although their sales representatives promised quite a few during the test drive. I was extremely disappointed with this treatment and would want Honda team to take note of this. The service and response was good and prompt from the reps otherwise.

Note - This is my honest feedback, so I would like to mention all the pros and cons.

It is a sheer treat to drive Brio. The comfort is magnificent and smoothness is just unmatched in this segment. The extra features like steering mounted controls, mileage indicator and eco light makes life easy. Although I think Honda could have done a better job with the gear box in terms of smoothness. Boot space is small but designed smartly since its deep enough and the luggage can be placed vertically.

Few things Honda can improve on -
The mileage initially was frozen on 9 kmpl which is much lesser than what was promised. I expected it to improve as I reached closer to 1st servicing but it did not move beyond 10.8. I did raise this concern with the engineers at Magnum Honda service station but to my surprise, got a shocker from them. The engineers mentioned that the mileage of Brio will remain around this and not go up as that's how much is expected of Brio. However, this is not what the sales representatives promised! The car is 3 months and 2500 kms old but the mileage is still around that. I agree I have driven it in Bangalore city traffic but you can't be happy with a mileage of 10.8 with a car which promises 18.4 kmpl on highways.

I hope to get an answer from Honda regarding this.
Overall I am happy with the car, it's "good". The only difference between 'good' and 'very good' here is the mileage.

Exterior Cute styling, revolutionary glass hatch and short wheelbase. Allows u to drift quickly in and out of silly traffic. The lines along the side, reminds of the fluidic design on the verna 😟

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Important features i liked are the Aux port on the ICE, ABS+EBD features, 12v socket and the big fat ass glove box. Steering wheel has mode and volume control, skoda rapid dont have it😷

I often get complimented that this hatch is comfortable, even though outside looks suggest otherwise. It can easily seat 4, altho 5 fat guys is streching a lil too much.

Like i said above, it can seat 4 pple comfortably, altho 5 can be accomodated too.Sufficient leg room for the back seaters w/out cramping.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

       A) Best in class Ivtec engine, superb pickup and power. Beats the hell out of swift, punto , i10, i20 u name it.  Embarassed a merc c_class C200 once on the NH47 hiway. If i have to overtake, i oft down shift to 3rd gear and zoom past everyone 😝

      B) I get an FE of 17 in city and about 22 in hiway. All figures w/out AC but with blower(fan speed 2). I upshift at 1.5k rpm genrally to get awesome FE. If u drive under 2k rpm, expect awesome FE. I will defnly smash 25kmpl one day,

C)Worst gearbox, makes a silly sound and is kinda ok to upshift. Learn from VW,maruti to create a asyncronous gearbox. Altho the gearbox makes silly sounds, clutch bleeding reduces noice to some extent. No other complaints!

Ride Quality & Handling Decnet ride quality, have gone beyond 120 kmph once, felt ok~~ did not float or rock like the verna 2013 model. I generally dont beyond 90kmph, as it hurts my wallet (petrol cost) :(

Handling is quite superb considering the rubbish MRF ZTVT tyres. i can easily take corners in 5th gear with the lite steering. Changing to michelin, yokos or conti will give u much better handling/ride

Final Words Superb car, total VFM~ altho i shud have got amaze becoz i do 2k kms in a month.  Service costs are very cheap, i have paid a total of 5866 in my 25000 kms of driving.

Areas of improvement Improve the damn gearbox, gear shifting is still just about ok! Honda dealers, stop acting like idiots and be more customer centric! RAting it 4/5 , will give it 5 out 5 once they improve the gearbox!

Awesome FE, superb pickup/power, decent torq and hot styling!Horrible gearbox, useless boot, cheap plastix and boring interiors

I have just completed a year with my Brio V MT. What attracted me to it was its zippiness which is pretty much needed in city driving esp Delhi. I love its small turning radius as it comes very handy in conjusted scenarios and during parking.

The steering is the lightest as compared to the other cars in the segment which is very helpful during long drives. I drove from Delhi to Chandigarh with only one stop I btwn. The car didnt make me feel tired even after 250 kms of almost continous driving.

Also this car looks tiny from outside however it holds enough space inside. We 5 adults easily fit in the vehical and it has become our natural choice when going out.

Coming to fuel efficiency, i though that mine wasnt giving a good average before I saw these comments. Mine gives around 14-15 in city. (w/o AC) and about 13-14 with AC.

It did start with 10-11 initially however with time the FE will improve and also it will depend a lot on how you treat your vehical and drive it. FE is hugely dependent on the driver and the driving conditions.

Your FE will be low id:

      1. You love to treat your car as a race car, riding on the accelarator as soon as you get a green signal. Speed is good however it will come at the same cost of petrol. Esp in cities maintain your speed, no need to climb on the accelarator just because you got a small patch to freedom.

      2. You clutch ride, ie you use clucth before you apply brakes. Clutch is supposed to be used for changing gears and not breaking. The best way to break is start doing it much before you normally do. Start slowing down by SLOWLY releasing the accelarator and then slowly apply breaks. press the clutch only when its almost stop to change gears.

      3. Too much breaking is bad. I have some people who love to test their cars breaks, apply them with jerks only when you are about to bang into the car in front of you.

      4. Regualrly check the air pressure in the tyres and get your car serviced on regular intervals.

      5. Use the right gear for the right speed.

Enjoy your little bundle of joy :). The FE will improve with time.

Compact yet spacious, comfortable to drive, styleboot space, less features as compared to other brands

Exterior As a whole looks cute car but when you go to detailing its poor. The rear bumper has an awkward shape and is edgy at corners, desing of lights quite impressed me. Door handles feel very down market as paint is not smooth. The under body design is very clever and to provide optimum ground clearance.if you look under the car, everything is embedded into the mainframe of the car and nothing hangs down.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) EVEN BEAT IS MORE SPACIOUS talk least about intereior space and comfort if you want to like this car. Every utility is cut shortened in size to proveide interior space still u don't find it. glove box is useless, bottle holders are just "pepsi my can" holders but yes cup holders are of good size and boot is sacrificed for rear leg room. seats are a tad too flat ...no contouing for thigh, lumbur and back support makes it uncomfortable for long drives...cheap plastics all around the car except for the steering.there is almost NO BOOT SPACE. seems honda has designed it strictly for city drive and if you want to travel a litte more you have to take out CITY for that hehe...feature are just as per market wave....basic:- 2 power windows,ac, power steering, beige interior. mid variant:- 4 power windows, central locking(not remote), body coloured ORVMs. 2nd to top:-audio sys with usb and aux, airbags, abs, remote central locking, ateering mounted control. top:- alloy wheels , fog lamps for just 20 extra gransds.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox As good as every honda spot on gearbox and engine refinement, ARAI certified mileage- 18.4, which is class leading.good bottom end and mid range but feels choked on high revvs.

Ride Quality & Handling Suspension carries over the over soft honda feel which is good for straight roads but bad for hard cornering as it gives too much of body roll. rear seat ride is not as good as front seats because of sloggish suspension.

Final Words A dissappointment from honda when in the same price there are bigger cars like micra and figo with same features almost and same fuel economy.

Areas of improvement In the structure they designed for the brio this is the most they can provide but yes suspension has to be tuned up to a more rigid side and plastics badly need to be improved.

Price, Honda smoothness, steering and gear knob, A pillar is least hyndering, good under body desigalmost zero boot space, poor paint quality and poor plastics..

Exterior Love the Exterior designed aerodynamically to look good as well as pass on all air to back to reduce all drag and enhance mileage. back is one of kind unique as with sporty back light is excellent.😉

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Plush, Best space inside in comprasion of Swift, Ritz, Beat, Polo and you can try out same well. Stearing mounted Audio contol as my 1st priority with excellent Audio power house inside, may not reach max sound.Good leg room to drive long. Best for 4 person, 5 can accomodate as in other cars also.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Highest Power to weight ratio, 88Bhp,1.2 Ltr in this segment and can see while pulling this car as Zooms.

Fuel economy when bought starts from 8km/ltr at starting and now with 2000km done reached to 13.5km/lt-city which is far good than my old 1.0 ltr Santro giving 12.5km/ltr and i10 giving 11km/ltr city. 😗 Gearbox will come to it best performance till you complete 2000-3000km as i felt same.

Ride Quality & Handling Excellent in corning fast drive with no nervousness of toumbling car as in i10,santro with good road feedback and handling in high speed. I feels the stability when crossed 4500rpm, 135km/Hr speed with Brio.

Final Words Top spped can reach to 150km/Hr @ 5500rpm itself but may still go more as cut offf rpm is 6300.But a good braking with high speed is same improtant where Brio declares winner without ABS version in brio S. If you had small family- 2+2, it the best in pertol 1.2 segment, 13-15km/Ltr mileage. Or if you bachelor this is Best option to own, as I missed.

Areas of improvement With present Design, no major area of improvement witnessed after crossing 3000km. If you need more Boot to keep yourself driving to Airport with luggage than hiring City taxi than forgot Brio.

      Highest Power in hood, Best room inside, excellent mileageLow on boot same as Ritz,Micra,Beat;

Exterior: Looks ok from front but lacks style from rear. Tail lights could have been of good quality.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): There are very few features as compared to other cars in competition like I10 in the same price range. The dash is made of bad quality plastic, also it is unsymetrical. Space is good for a small car. OVRM can only be adjusted from outside. Riding comfort is low for a taller person. Too much cabin noise. You can actually hear the engine like in diesel cars & it is a car without boot.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: Engine performance is good. The real fuel economy will be derived after 2 services. Gear shifting is smooth.

Ride Quality & Handling: Ride quality & handling are good.

Final Words: It could have been better.

Areas of improvement: Interiors, cabin noise.

      Exterior:

The Brio looks very masculine from front. The chrome grill with Honda logo aahhh that’s the best eye catcher for anyone standing on road. The looks are really fabulous with its aerodynamic look from side which we feel when we are driving on speed above 100kmph. The back i love which some may and some may not. The colors are also pretty peppy when compared to other brands..

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

The interiors are very spacious with the front sporty driving seats. It almost gives us a feel of Honda City when we are sitting on the front with enough leg space for a guy like me 6 feet tall. The rear is a bit crimpy if both front sitting guys are 6 feet or else the space is ample for others. The seats are designed in a curve fashion which gives enough leg room for the people sitting back but i would recommend only 2 people in back as that is the best feel u would feel when u drive on for long journey.  The plastics and the fiber used are the best in any hatchback compared till date. Very sporty analog triple meters with the audio system the best we can get. It comes up with all the features of sedan, dual air bags, ABS with EBD, adjustable steering with seats. I felt it almost the same as City with chrome inlets for ac and gear box which enhances the look & feel from inside.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

The IVTEC 1200 CC Rocks. You can feel the raw power when you rave the engine above 100kmph. To my surprise i could beat almost all the major hatchbacks on highway. I would say when driving on 100 also you feel the complete control of the car. In the city it feels almost the same like all other cars since u don’t get the privilege to go above 60 as some auto wala or biker would block ur way :) specially in Mumbai. Now i went on a long drive from Mumbai to Nasik and to my surprise i would say i have got 18.9 kmpl which the brand promises it has proved. If you don’t believe my words do take ur Brio on highway and ride it over i m sure u can see ur analog meter tricking on 18.5 the least :).. Kudoos to Honda engineers for designing such a beautiful powerful car with super duper mileage. Secondly in the city i am getting around 12.9 kmpl in south Mumbai during the peak traffic hours. The gear box is very smooth it feels like makhan when driving in the city. Only remember to shift gears frequently when driving in city :)

      Ride Quality & Handling

The ride quality is awesome at high speeds like 100 and above. We don’t feel that our control is lost even though you are steering at high speeds. I was able to reach to 130 kmph on highway. At lower speed it feels the same like any other car except the turning radius which is the best among all other brands and power steering is very smooth which you have to try out yourself it gives us the feel of sedan class i bet.

      Final Words

All these power packed features come for a very competitive price. Finally i would say Honda is the only one which i would love to cherish through out this decade upgrading from Brio to City then to Civic and next which would come in next generations... Guys Honda Rocks drive it to believe it.. And finally only the tag line ‘It truly loves you back’ just remember to service your car on time and always wear ur seat belts and happy driving :).. Cheers

Exterior I purchased Honda Brio SMT car last month. It was new may 2013 model with defogger in backside glass. My car was standing in front of my house on 13 june 2013 at 1 PM. suddenly its backside glass broken down spontaneously by sunlight heat in front of my eyes. there was no jerk or blow of any kind to the glass. My dealer Pinkcity Honda told me that he will repair it on insurance though the vehicle is in warrenty period. Later he told me that that backside glass of this new model with Defogger is not available so he can not do anything. Now , after spending   Rs 5 Lac on car, I still have to ride my old scooter.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Poor class backside glass of new model with defogger.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Average.

      Ride Quality & Handling Average.

Final Words Do not buy Honda Brio as its backside glass with defogger is so weak that it breaks down with sunlight heat and it is not available for replacement also

Areas of improvement Backside glass with defogger.

Good to driveWeak and brittle back glass and non availability of parts

Exterior It has got nice sporty look, I just love the way it looks at the back. Since the car has got more glass portion, you feel more airy inside. While taking reverse large glass window portion helps a lot.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Adequate space inside the vehicle. You will feel comfortable even at the back seat. Boot space is less matter for me as i need more space for myself rather than to my luggage. Rear is adequately spacious.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Almost equal to the power output of Swift, driven for almost 5km on a less tarffic road its amazing.

Ride Quality & Handling  Small turning radius helps in handling the vehicle smoothly in the city

Final Words  It really loves you back.

Areas of improvement I have booked this vehicle recently. I feel they should have added some more features into it as compared to the competition with i10.

Exterior The main positive is the way they have reduced blind spot areas by maximising the glass area and minimising the area occupied by the machineries... The design philosophy is excellent.. I personally like the design very much.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The space inside is excellent, the cabin is with plenty of ambient natural light access. Unlike the dark cramped backseats of the chevrolet beat. The seats are with good support and the backseat legroom is excellent for such a small car. I have the v variant so the interiors are very well appointed.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine is not as smooth as that of the swift..but the brio being a lighter car has far superior acceleration, the engine has very good low rev band power, which was unexpected from honda who makes high revving engines. The gear box has short throws... and the third gear is typically taller, the shift is good... better than the marutis but not as good as skodas. The clutch travel is perfect, under very hard driving I got 9 kmpl... under normal driving in the city I got 14. and driving economically i often get over 18..in the national highway I got betwen 18 to 20.

Ride Quality & Handling The ride is better for city but in the highway its not as relaxed. The damping is as good as in the jazz, and the small wheel base and wide body makes for excellent grip. The steering feels nice but is not as well directed as in the swift, its a very maneuverable setup. You can steer the car with extreme ease.

Final Words For the price at which it comes at, there is hardly any other or better car. The only other cars you can have are the ritz or the beat, have a test drive, and you will know the brio has got far better finishing. Better panle gaps, better feel of the door gettinf shut and far better materials, even better then the swift, which was the car I was looking to buy. The brio is currently a whole 1 lac cheaper than the swift..you know 1 lac is too much of a difference.the quality for the price is astounding. Hondas always have had that inherent desireability,i dont know about the other owners speaking of the bad shock absorbers, and wheel alignemnets and spare parts, bla bla. I have had 2 toyotas two skodas and 2 marutis till now, and have never cried over spares, I have never crashed, may be the front doors in my skoda is 2000 rs more expensive than those in my maruti, but the quality of the doors in my skoda is far better, you must get a life and must be ready to pay the premium, but then tell me how often do you need to raplace your front doors.

Areas of improvement The rear hatch has too less space for luggage..and also do not have a wiper.the music system do not come with a cd player(though cds are getting off the shelves).may be honda should take care of the service which they will over a period of some time...rest i cannot ask a 5.3 lac car to behave like a 8 lac car.

Excellent qulaity, fit and finish, nice handlingLow luggage capacity..no rear wiper and defogger,no cd player
