Nothing like name and Hype

This is Keerthana from Mysore. Let me share my experience about the Swift VXi of which I took a test drive today in the morning.

The feel,

The car has a very stodgy look Esp from the front from where it looks just like a deformed pumpkin. Bulges here, bulges there, bulges every where.The black coloured paint strip along the window line around the car reminds you of the old age rail coaches.The front head lamps look with their unconventional styling looks very different and  would cause diferent opinion amonst poeple of different tastes. For me they just look stupid. Once you are in, one may get an impression that the car acutely lacks the feel good factor in most fronts. The back seats are cramped and for sure they will cause discomfort for the rear seat passengers during long journeys. The front ones however are quite comfy.  The gear shift is appeciably better than its younger brothers viz, Estilo and WR but not comparable with santro (and generations far behind the i10). The engine is quite noisy. The vibrations and engine sound easily percolates into the body cabin. The dash board, which reminds us of the one seen on the Standard Rower car of the 1980's, has nothing special to write home about. The engine is not very happy while revving up unlike the one seen on the i10, the engine generates unpleasant crying sounds as you revv up. The ride quality is also not so good to write home about.The suspensions take lots of pain to soak up the potholes of your city roads and sometimes even cry out with sounds like Thud.  They stand far behind when compared with U-VA or Fusion but better than Santro. Above all, the car appears a true member of the Maruti family, with a very delicate build quality.

Please do not think that the car has only badpoints, but there are certain very good points about the Swift, which are quite rare in other cars within given the price band. I liked the Power windows and the way they responded, the interiors feel to be made of good plastics. The security system and power door locks (remote) are quite appealing. The Air con is simply world class.

My decision. My requirement was in terms of a very reilable machine which remains loyal with its owner during it life time. But this one appers to be more funky type with poor mechanics but excellent electronic components. So I have dropped the idea of going for it and then repenting for the decision. Instead I have changed by preference to Getz, Fusion and ofcourse the I10 magna.

Overall verdict: I would recommend this car for only those who like only the Maruti brand name to be attached with their cars.
