I started by comparing the Honda civic and the Toyota Corolla Altis. Must say I was horrified to see the sales team at the Whitefield Honda branch,Bangalore. Absolutely unprofessional, it felt like as if they were doing us a favour. Consulted a couple of friends and reached a conclusion that Honda gave some serious after sales servicing problems. Asked the Honda demo person for a civic TD, and surprisingly the branch did not have even a single car for TD. Finally after a lot of discussion the person took out an old civic with torn leather seats, dusty interiors, and a rattling engine for test drive. Feeling let down and completely disgusted at this behaviour, I walked out and drove to the nearest Toyota showroom. The feeling was completely different. The Staff at Ravindu Toyota was courteous and primarily a lot more professional in their approach. The altis GL was readily available for TD. The car had great pickup, Handling felt good (electronic steering). The engine did get a bit noisy once I crossed 120 km/hr but that was ok. Air conditioning too was very effective on a hot sunny day. Overall build quality cannot be questioned, it’s a Toyota after all. I think this car is definitely a lot more loaded than the Civic and also a lakh cheaper. Overall the car was definitely value for money. Even the ground clearance of the car made sure that it doesn’t hit every god damn speed breaker on the road so very unlike the Civic. I immediately booked the Altis and received my car in a week. The team at Ravindu helped me with all the processes and must say it was a cruise. The delivery too was completed well in 40 minutes. At the end of this entire exercise I am happy I went for Toyota. The car is running great, no problem till date. The car is giving me 12km/ltr in city with AC which is commendable.Good looks, fuel economy, Pleasure to drive, great serviceInteriors could have been better in this price range

Exterior Good! Younger brother of camry.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The spaciousness is simply amazing. Confortable car, powerfull A/C, 7 " touch screen is awesome, bluetooth connectivity is usefull. The leather seats with perforation are a beauty. The DVD touchscreen is also absolutely feauture rich. You can manually control the positioning of the sound. The sound quality is wonderful and more than enough for most people. Top end diesel is expensive than top end petrol, but it lacks features like start/stop button, keyless entry, electric seat adjustment & parking sensors.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy The 1.8 L petrol engine is absolutely silent. Diesel engine is a little noisy. Nice pickup and good power as compared to a 1.4 litre engine. Petrol has fuel economy—about 9 kmpl in the city, and 14 on the highway whereas the diesel manages to give 14 in the city and 17 on highway.

Ride Quality & Handling You will enjoy driving the car as well as sitting behind. 1 of the most comfortable car in its class.

Final Words Go for the petrol if you want a nice ride. If you want fuel economy then go for diesel.

Areas of improvement Parking sensors should be a part of standard equipment for top end diesel. The remote and the key should be 1 piece. Only 2 airbags for top end model. HID headlamps not so powerfull. should be replaced by the projector headlamps.

Nice mileage, good interiors, comfortable & luxurious car. 1.4 litre engine but as powerfull as 1.8.Diesel engine a bit noisy. Parking sensors should be a part of standard equipment for top end diesel

Exterior gorgeous headlights, sleek look, lights in side mirror.when u see it head to head its really very nice. Compared with other cars in this price tag in diesel this has the sleek look.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Spacious, leather seats, many storage ports, fine dashboard.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox .ve driven 1500km.16/lt overall, not noisy, smooth gear shift.

Ride Quality & Handling Smooth to ride, except the turbo lag below 1800rpm is bcse of its low cc engine, but this gives u the fuel economy. If ur a racer, this wont suit u.but when rpm cross 1800,its jus flying n can beat any car.having 6 gears.honestly in city u cant drive fast in any car so this tubo lag is not of much disadvantage.i felt clutch is little hard, may b its because its new one.

Final Words Very good car value for ur hard earned money. Toyota service good. If ur main concern  is fuel economy this is the best car.

Areas of improvement turbo lag.need cruise control.

Fuel economy, civic like look, headlights, quite engineTurbo lag below 1.8 rpm

Just test drove the Altis, was a refreshing site with the styling on the lines of the Camry. Looks much better than the Civic, which probably we have seen too many off now.

The car drives well, is sure footed and can take on different terrain without complaints. Though too much of a rough road is not where it would want to find its shoes in.

The refreshing exteriors do not seem to have made it to the interiors. It borders on the ok to just about bad. The wood finish seems overdone, the leather on the steerring wheel feels drab, the Ford Fiesta comes with better leather. The leather on the seats are good, the seats themselves are great.

The choice of interior colors could have been a little more understated

The adjustability for seat, fore & aft, needed another couple of centimeters for comfort. The lumbar adjustment was a boon for the distance we took the test drive on.

The 2 DIN system sounds ok, the one on Civic is far better.

The engine was pretty good, though it sounds gruf when taken beyond the 4000rpm, probably needs a little more running in, since the car we had run just a little over 1000kms.

The shift was ok, not very sporty but well located and with good ratios. The gear knob fell into the palm of my hands pretty well too.

Overall, the Altis makes a refreshing site but lacks novelty value.

Its been a month with the new corolla altis launched 1 month ago. The facelift may be a not too much. but it really makes a lot of changes . the car has ran some 4500kms and 2 highway trips in that which proved the cars performance, the extra power in the engine is really nice and a lot more smoother. the powered seats are really good and the equipment levels are really high that even the accord dont have them . the light steering is a boon in city traffic but creates fear in the highway. the car got a scratch and the toyota delars treated it very carefully with minimial cost. the rear seat comfort is really gud. fuel economy is around 10.5 in city and 16.5 in highway which is pretty good. the keyless entry go and start stop button makes it feel very easy. 6 gears help in highways. overall the car is an amazing and tempting package from toyota which cannot be resisted.

I Went for toyota carola altis test drive In last one month, that to twice. Once i drove carola 1.8G and second time I drove 1.8gl. Both the time the gear was just too hard. When i questioned this to the sales person, first sale's person( oh it was gal) gave me the reason that something is wrong with the test drive vehicle and the second one told me that since the car was driven only 8000 km so that Gear is hard and it will get smooth after 10000 km. Somehow the second sale person's logic to the gear not being smooth dint go very well in my head.. Then the speedomater reading showed me that Toyota 1.8GL was giving an average of 6.8kmpl(during the test drive). that really shocked me, made me think twice if I did the right thing of taking a test drive. We need to wait for deisel or CNG variant, that can be a good choice.. the back seat drive was very confortable.since i have had back injury, I think carolla has the best shock absorbing suspension and good quality seats. My questions are 1) Is the gears of toyota carolla altis so hard,(it was worst than my 9 year old Santro hyundai). 2) Honestly how much is the milleage a toyota Carolla 1.8G or 1.8J or 1.8GL ( all manual transmission) can give in Delhi city and on highway..(both). 3)When is the diesel verion of toyota carolla being launched? 4) When is the CNG version being launced? 5) there is a discount of Rs.30000+ being given on toyotas only for the month of december 2009. Any specific reason for this? or is it because of the deisel and CNG verison being launched very soon? 6) Any other car you guys can recommend in the bracket of Rs.10- 11 Lakhs( daily driving 3 hours/40 kms)sometime driven by chauffer, price of 10.5 lakhs, looking for good comfortable , shock freeride(because of my back problem and bad traffic jams in delhi) Waiting for your feedback guys. thanks r/ashugood looking - yeah but nee dto find morebad gears- just to hard, nd milleage a concern

      Exterior

The car looks extremely stylish. It might be not as stylish as the CRUZE or the CIVIC, however there are a few cars that look as good as the ALTIS..The front grill and the chrome handles are beautiful,,,From the back you will have to look very closely to see the difference between the old Corolla and the new one, but the new look really is a lot more classy than the older one.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

The boot space is like huge, you definitely won't have a problem with large bags. The interior space is awesome, Lot's of leg room and even better fabric is used internally. Most of the features are standard, however the audio system could have been better. There is no space for a USB port, which is a big let down. Somehow the audio system does not seem to mach the class of the car. The odometer and the rest of the jazz look really great. The rearview mirror having the chromatic feature is really superb. Does help a lot to deflect the glare of the lights following you.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Somehow I am not convinced that the ALTIS is a car to push down the pedal and go for large speeds. If you drive at 60, you can drive for long periods wihout feeling tired. The entire journey would be high on the pleasure quotient. Gearbox is smooth, no issues there. But at speeds over 90, you get the feeling that the engine is crying out aloud for you to stop. Somehow it does not sound very smooth at high speeds. This does not mean that you can't drive at say 120, cause the car can really go, if you want it to. Let's just say the car is built to have speed as a secondary motto and luxury as the primary one. Currently it is giving me a mileage of 11 kmpl,,,however I would wait for a few months before I can comment on that

      Ride Quality & Handling

Like I said the quality of the drive overall is really superb. I drove it for long hours in busy traffic jams and on open highways but I never ever felt like I was tired. It felt like I was cruising with no issues. The handling is equally smooth. No issues with turns and sudden breaks. It handles like a dream.

      Final Words

It's a great CAR, if you want to top luxury over speed. If you are loking to blaze on the roads, (wondering how you can do that in India though) then go for a CRUZE. But I test drove all the cars in this segment and finally decided on the ALTIS. Tried and tested. Strong and robust. No risks and no fancy thrills.

      Areas of improvement

       1) Probably they could style it better to match the contemporary looking CIVIC or CRUZE

      2) Include USB port in the audio system

You feel like a KING,great cruisingCould have had a better audio system

Exterior:- The car comes with Camry like looks. It may not look as sporty or sleek as the Civic, but is has a mature, stately appearance.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort):- Interiors are pretty good and the wood finish is attractive, but could have been a wee bit better. Rear seats are comfortable and feel spacious. Dashboard layout is pretty good but not as snazzy or cockpit-like as in the Civic. The LCD display for odometer and trip-meters are impressive. Range, mileage, outside temperature, fuel economy etc are displayed sequentially on pressing the switch on the steering.  Audio controls on the steering are also good. Lots of storage areas  have been provided. A CD player with aux input and 6 CD changer is factory fitted and the audio quality on the 6 speaker system is good but not great. Boot space is great.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox:- Fuel economy is great. Especially in the city. It outclasses the Civic in this area. Averages about 10.7 km/liter in the city and about 13 km-14 km/liter on highways with the air conditioner on.

Ride Quality & Handling:- Excellent  and smooth ride quality. Handles very well  at high speeds. Ground clearance is 176 mm and unlike the Civic, the Altis does not scrape bumps and speed breakers frequently. Grips the road well even at 150km/hr. ABS works well and the vehicles braking system is excellent.

Final Words:- Its the car for the mature 35-50 year old  executive from whom quality, performance and value for money matters more than sheer sporty looks and snazzy dashboards. Toyota lives up to its reputation in terms of quality, reliability and maintenance costs. The Corolla Altis is a hassle free car for the family and is definitely the best one can get in the Class D segment. It provides value for money in terms of the features it offers. A Honda Civic with the same features would cost about a lakh more.

Areas of improvement:- Side views for the driver is obstructed. Quality of the upholstery could be bettered. Auido quality can be made better.

      Hello Carlovers,

This is not exactly a car review but since I have had no joy from Toyota Customer's Service in Bangalore - all they did is issue me with a complaint ticket number and never came back to me (now 8 months later!).

I have owned Toyota cars (Innova and Corolla) more or less eversince Toyota started selling cars in India.  Over the years, both my Innova's and both my Corolla's have been serviced regularly with the Infinium Motors, who are the ONE and ONLY Toyota Dealer in Ahmedabad.  Over the years all FOUR cars have had to be sent in specially for replacement of brake pads. NEVER in my experience has Infinium Motors replaced them as part of the service.  It gets WORSE, and each time when we send in the car to get the pad replaced they have come back to us with the information that not only the brake pads but also the dics have need to be replaced as they have been worn down by used up brake pads.  This is logical but what bothers me that first Infinium Motors, seems to have deliberate policy of either not checking the condition of brake pads as part of the routine service OR they simply ignore them for pads to completed wear out and damage the disc brakes since replacing the discs costs around 7-9K while replacing the brake pads usually a tenth of that amount.

Given the Toyota prides itself on quality and reliability of their products, and is justly famous it it, Infinium Motors is doing it no favours by operating this mean and underhanded scam to generate revenues/profits.  This is what happens when you allow a monopoly of one dealer in a city as large as Ahmedbad.  So what am going to do?  Well buy a Honda and Skoda and hope their dealer are more professional and honest

Exterior Exterior of corolla has improved very much and looks like closer to camry. front head lamps and shape gives good look and style to the car.

Interior Interier is soour gives good feeling while driving, good illuminated lights reflection from meter and audio system. comfort level is very high as its very spacious inside.

Ride Quality & Handling Extremly smooth handle gives immense pleasure while driving, gear and clutch combination gives extremly smooth ride in heavy traffic. rides very smmothly on high speed also due to good suspention and aerodynamics. those who drives the car mostly in city can go for this car.

Final Words I feel good while driving it but i think its a car to be use by people of age above 35 years i.e for cold blooded people.those who are even little aggressive in driving would get frustated with its power and pickup. but rest of the car is exceptional in all features. for riding in cities its very good car but for highways its little difficult.

Areas of improvement Little more power and torque would give enough fuel and power consumption. top models should atleast have all the common features like back sensors, sun roof etc. by adding more power to the car automatic diesel version would be more acceptable in top model.

Fuel economy is very good, comfortable in long journeys, good interiors n awsome suspensionNo back sensor, no sunroof, power and torque is very poor even displacement in diesel top model
