Volkswagen has showcased the Ameo at the Auto Expo 2016 and this car will compete with current segment players like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.
This saloon is based on the Polo hatchback and the differences begin from the C-pillar where changes have been made to fit a boot and lend it a saloon profile.
The new Ameo gets rain sensing wipers and cruise control that are a segment first, along with a rear view camera with parking sensors, auto-dimming inner rear view mirror, automatic ac with vents for the rear passengers. The familiar 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol engine that develops 74bhp and 110Nm of torque continues to do duty on this car with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.5-litre diesel motor makes 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque that’s mated to a five-speed manual transmission. An automatic option on the diesel motor is also on the cards with a seven-speed DSG that will be offered on the 104bhp version of the engine that powers the Vento. Expect the Ameo to roll into showrooms by July this year.
