Ford India's Maraimalainagar Nagar engine facility rolled out its 100,000th engine this month. The company achieved this milestone was achieved just 14 months after the engine plant opened for operations in January 2010. The plant has the capacity to produce 250,000 engines per year.

Ford recorded an annual sales increase of 184 percent this year. From January to December 2010, the Company sold 83, 887 units and nearly tripled it salesvolume against a total of 29,488 cars sold in 2009.Ford India's year-on-year December sales were up 172 per cent compared to December 2009. This December Ford Figo was selected the `Indian Car of the Year 2011' by a leading jury ofautomobile journalists after comprehensive testing.

Ford India sold a total of 7,504 units in November versus 2,520 units sold in November last year thus registering a 198% per cent increase compared to November 2009. From January to November 2010, the company sold 79,586 units, an increase of 185%, compared to a total of 27,906 units for the same period last year.

Ford India registered its second highest sales month this year, selling 9,026 units an increase of 161% from October 2009. Ford India had sold 3458 units the same month last year. From January to October 2010 the company sold 72,078 units, an increase of 183% over the 25,386 units sold during the same period in 2009.

Ford India tripled sales in August. It sold 7,925 vehicles this month, a 220 percent increase compared to August 2009. Ford India has sold 54,676 vehicles in India so far this year, a 195 % increase compared to January – August in 2009. The Ford Figo remains at the top of the sales charts with more than 34,000 bookings recorded in the 25 weeks since it was introduced. As well as its domestic success, the Figo is also in demand overseas.

Sales of Ford vehicles in India have grown at an average annual rate of 17 percent over the past five years, and an estimated 10 million to 11 million people will migrate from two-wheeled forms of transport to small cars in the next few years. Ford India launched the Ford Figo subcompact in the first quarter of this year, selling more than 30,000 units in 25 weeks.

Ford Motor Company will launch eight new vehicles in India by the middle of the decade as its plan to rapidly expand its presence in the fast growing market. Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa (APA), made the announcement today during a keynote speech titled 'Managing Growth – Evolving Market Dynamics' at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Conference in New Delhi.

Mumbai:  With more than 25,000 sales bookings registered since its launch in March, the Ford Figo has cemented its reputation as one of India's most in demand new cars.

It’s only fitting to headline a piece on Ford India with perhaps their most successful ad-line from the nineties, when Ford Motor Co. really made a comeback in the North American market. Ford has always had good cars in the Indian market and each one of them has had a fair number of followers; starting from the Escort (from their M&M JV days) to the Ikon and even the Mondeo (an excellent car which sadly had a rather short life-span in our market) the Fiesta and now, the Figo.

All Fords available in India will see an increase in their asking price in 2010. Ford has cited fluctuating exchange rates and rising input costs as the reasons.
