The 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show was largely dominated by the Jaguar C-X17 SUV concept as well as the announcement of a new ‘baby’ Jag which will slot in beneath the XF. Codenamed X760, the saloon will compete with mid-ranking cars in the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 ranges. Jaguar has plans to beat Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz at their own game by launching four new models by 2018.The all-aluminium saloon will be joined by an estate, an SUV and possibly a hatchback in the style of BMW’s GT models.

Nissan India has announced a price increase across the range of vehicles on sale in India to minimise the impact of rupee depreciation and escalating input costs. The price increase ranging from two per cent to four per cent will be effective from January 2014. This will impact the purchase price of its premium hatchback Micra, sporty Micra Active, mid-sized sedan Sunny, MPV Evalia and the newly launched SUV Terrano.

The four-door version of the Audi A3 has been launched in South Africa and will hit the showrooms in January 2014. The A3 sedan is the third addition to the A3 family since the hatchback was launched in November 2012. With a huge 425-litres boot, the sedan is a bit more practical than the hatchback and perfectly bridges the gap between the A3 Sportback and the A4. The car will be equipped with Audi’s Quattro system.

The all new Honda Fit (Jazz for India) has taken the Japanese domestic market by storm. It has successfully clinched the title of the bestselling Car from the Toyota Aqua within two months of its launch. Honda has sold 19,388 units of Fit in September, 23,281 in October and 26,235 units last month- totaling just close to 69,000 units.

Nissan India has announced that it will sell cars online in India and make its entire product line up available for purchase via the internet. Customers will be able to book their cars by making payments through an online gateway using a credit card. The car will then be delivered to the customer by their nearest Nissan dealership when ready.

Last week, Ford unveiled the 2015 Mustang sportscar and had said that this new car will be joining their global vehicle programme (a.k.a One Ford) and for the first time will also be offered in RHD configuration sometime next year. While that alone is quite a surprise from the American automaker, word has now emerged that Ford is considering alternate powertrain options for the sportscar in markets outside America. This line-up may include electric motors, hybrids and wait for it… a diesel electric hybrid!
