Toyota Etios Liva launched, Chevrolet Beat diesel up next

Toyota had launched the Etios Liva, its first hatchback for the Indian car market. The prices commence at Rs 3.99lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Liva at present will be available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which will produce 80bhp of power. The Liva is based on the Etios platform and most of the interior bits of the hatchback and sedan will be shared. The ARAI mileage figure for the Liva is 18.31kmpl. Read our review of the Etios Liva. GM showcases the electric version of the Beat

General Motors India today showcased the Chevrolet Beat Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) as part of the ongoing celebrations of World Environment Day. The demonstration vehicle will be used by GM India to showcase the effectiveness of battery electric vehicle technology in India.  GM India engineers will also use the vehicle to address potential cost savings to help make BEVs more affordable for global customers.

IIT Mumbai’s John Paul Xavier wins GM India Automotive Design Contest

John Paul Xavier from Industrial Design Centre at IIT Mumbai won General Motors India’s ‘Design the next Chevrolet Contest’.Sachin Panchal from DSK International School of Design in Pune was declared the first runner-up of the contest.Students from various engineering colleges and institutes across the country participated in the contest. Around 1000 entries were received and 40 were shortlisted.

Chevrolet to Launch Beat Diesel in April

After GM India launched the Beat LPG on the 11th of this month, they are all set to launch the Beat Diesel the coming April. Karl Slym, President & Maniging Director, GM India, said, ' The diesel version of the Beat will be launched a couple of months from now and the same technology used in the locally developed Smartech engine, will be used to power the diesel variant. The only thing I would say now that it will be a 1-litre engine.'

GM's successful run in the Automtive Sector Continues

General Motors India has registered a growth of 6% in sales in January 2011, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 9984 units in January 2011 against 9421 units in January 2010. Second to Ford India in terms of sales the company will definitely be all charged up to hit the 10,000 mark in the coming months.

Chevrolet Beat to get Smartech Engine

The Chevrolet Beat will get the new locally-developed Smartech engine which will be a 1.2-litre common-rail turbocharged engine from the Fiat-GM uniJet (JTD) engine range, albeit minus a cylinder and we reckon the engine will produce about 65bhp.

Chevrolet Spark bags J D Power Award for Quality in 2010

Chevrolet Spark won the top award for quality for the fourth consecutive year in the India Automotive Initial Quality Study announced by J.D Power Asia Pacific 2010. The Chevrolet Spark was ranked the highest in the compact car segment in this year’s study conducted by JD Power. This is for the record fourth time in a row that Spark has bagged this prestigious award. Chevrolet Beat bagged the second position in the Premium Compact Car segment and the Chevrolet Tavera was placed at second position in the Multi Utility Vehicle/Multi Purpose Vehicle segments respectively.

General Motors Indias November 2010 Sales grow by 18 percent

General Motors India registered a growth of 18% in sales in November 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 8376 units in November 2010 against 7118 units sold in November, 2009.  The November 2010 sales comprised 2786 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 2547 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1476 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 617 units of the Chevrolet Cruze, 297 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 291 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 262 units of Chevrolet Optra and 100 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.
