Mercedes-Benz CLS 250 CDI and the E-Class Cabriolet to be launched tomorrow

Mercedes-Benz will launch two luxury cars for the Indian market tomorrow. The CLS 250 CDI and the E-Class Cabriolet will be added to the carmaker's Indian line-up of cars, which is seeing a constant addition.

The four-door stylish CLS coupe gets changes that include redesigned headlamps with optional Multibeam LED headlights (regular LED lights will be standard), a new A-Class inspired front grille and a sporty front bumper. Though these changes are very subtle in terms of styling, they are very significant. However, changes at the back are minimal, which include a slight change in the tail-lamp design profile.

For the Indian market, Mercedes will offer the new CLS-Class only with a diesel engine and will be badged as CLS250 CDI. This car is powered by the same 2,143cc diesel engine that is seen under the hood of the E250 CDI sedan. This mill churns out 204bhp of power and 500Nm of torque that is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed 7G Tronic automatic transmission.

The E-Class convertible is one car that fans who like the wind in their hair will definitely like. While the exterior of the E-Class might remind one of the E63 AMG, the interior is inspired by the E-Class sedan. The car's sporty character is further enhanced by the large 18-inch wheels. The cabin might get a wide range of wooden and leather options under the purview of Mercedes-Benz's personalisation program.

This cabriolet version will be sold only as the petrol variant and this E400 Cabriolet will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces 328bhp of power and 480Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 7G-Tronic plus seven-speed automatic gearbox. The E400 Cabriolet is capable of doing the 0-100kmph sprint in 5.3 seconds, and achieving an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

The new-gen CLS-Class was first revealed globally in June last year. It will compete with the Audi A7 and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe in the Indian market. The chic-looking E400 Cabriolet is a convertible car that doesn't have any close competitors and will serve to the niche segment of buyers in our country.
