Toyota plans to bring in more hybrid vehicles to India

Toyota is celebrating the first anniversary of the Camry Hybrid in India. The company has sold 541 units of the hybrid car in our country till date and is so pleased with its performance that they plan to introduce more such vehiclesin the Indian market.

Out of the total sales of Camrys, 75 per cent of the units sold were Camry Hybrids. The car is currently assembled on a separate assembly line in Toyota Kirloskar Motor's second facility in Bidadi, Bangalore. Toyota's hybrid cars are only manufactured/assembled in nine countries around the world out of which India is one.

The Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder, VVT-I petrol engine paired to a 650V hybrid motor. While the petrol mill churns out 160bhp of power and 213Nm of torque, the electric motor is capable of producing 143bhp of power, giving out a combined output of 202bhp of power and 270Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an E-CVT (electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission). 

N Raja, TKM Director and Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), said, "Currently 75 per cent of Camry sales are hybrid. The vehicle has been appreciated for its ideal combination of a luxury sedan and hybrid technology. Looking at the response we are encouraged to consider bringing more hybrid vehicles to India."

Toyota thinks that energy crisis and increasing pollution are some of the problems the world is facing today which should be dealt with by making eco-friendly products. With the success of the Camry Hybrid in India, the manufacturer considers bringing more hybrid vehicles to our country.
