Honda India expecting 50 per cent sales growth in North-East during 2014-15

Japanese auto giant Honda Cars India is quite optimistic about its sales performance as it expects sales from the North-East to grow by a massive 50 per cent in the financial year 2015. A strong demand for petrol-powered cars in the region has prompted Honda to set the rather ambitious target.  

"The market in North-East holds a lot of potential for growth of Honda Cars. We are expecting about 50 per cent sales growth in this region during 2014-15," HCIL Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales), Jnaneswar Sen has been reported saying. 

According to Mr Sen, sales in the North-East region grew 38 per cent at 1,733 units in 2013-14 as against 1,258 units in the previous fiscal. Honda is looking forward to experience strong growth in the North-East market as it readies new models and expands the existing dealer network throughout the year. 

While the City and the Amaze enjoy strong demand in the North-East region, it’s the petrol models of both vehicles that have proved to be more popular than their diesel counterparts in this region. “Out of the total sales in the region, 60 per cent come from the petrol variants of the models. During 2013-14, North-East contributed to 8 per cent of HCIL's sales for East zone and 2 per cent to overall national sales, Mr Sen added. 

Honda currently has sales outlets in Guwahati and Dibrugarh in Assam, Dimapur in Nagaland and Gangtok in Sikkim. The brand is now planning to open new dealerships in Imphal in Manipur and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh in the next few months.
