Hyundai Grand i10 LPG launched for Rs 4.92 lakh

Hyundai has introduced a new LPG variant of the Grand i10 priced at Rs 4.92 lakh for the solid colour variant and Rs 4.96 lakh for the metallic paint variant, both ex-showroom Delhi. The LPG option is available only in the Magna trim and it will be powered by a new 1.0-litre engine.

While Hyundai employs the 1.1-litre engine for the other LPG-powered hatchbacks, it has decided to go with a 1.0-litre VTVT engine for the Grand i10. The engine is also used in the Eon and churns out 68bhp and 92Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.  The car comes with a factory-fitted LPG kit and a two-year unlimited kilometre warranty. The switch to LPG will cause a drop of 2bhp and 2Nm of torque. 

The 1.0-litre unit is a new engine and is already used in the Grand i10 sold in the Korean manufacturer’s other global markets. Due to the absence of one cylinder, the 1.0-litre unit is more efficient than the 1.1-litre counterpart which is one of the biggest priorities for customers opting for LPG-powered cars. Besides, the engine will also be lighter as well as cheaper to manufacture.

In India, the Grand i10 slots in perfectly between the i10 and the i20. Several features like climate control, rear parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls, an integrated music system with 1 GB internal memory and most importantly, the rear AC vents make the Grand i10 one of the best value for money offerings. It rivals other B segment hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse.

Hyundai introduced the Grand i10 in the Indian market around 10 months ago and in this short duration has managed to sell 1,00,000 units of the hatchback. Now that the Grand i10 has been launched with an LPG kit, it might not be long before the Korean manufacturer decides to offer the sub-four metre sedan, the Xcent, with this option too.
