Schumacher having ‘moments of consciousness’; Doctors extremely cautious

This is probably the best news fans of Formula One and the seven-time world racing champion, Michael Schumacher, have heard in a long time. The racing legend’s fall and injury during a skiing accident had rendered him hospitalized and comatose for a considerable period of time. Now there are encouraging reports that he is having ‘moments of consciousness’ and he is making eye-contact and is responding to voices.

This bit of news was enough to send a wave of cheer among his legions of fans. Three months is long time even according to doctors to survive a life-threatening injury. Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm, however, refused to divulge the "details" of the development apart from the brief statement. The racing champion’s friends and family are hoping for the best, but doctors are choosing to be cautious. 

French neurosurgeon Philippe Decq, warned: "We must be extremely cautious.

"Signs of awakening is probably the observation of eye movements, followed by eye-contact. This is encouraging and I am happy to hear that but we must be extremely careful.

"The lesions are obviously extremely serious. Anything can happen," Dr Decq warned. "You are never unscathed after a trauma of this severity."

While there is no concrete news of  whether Schumacher will be making a complete recovery or if there are other complications, this report is certainly a sign of good things to come.
