Volkswagen Polo facelift spied with GT badgings

Volkswagen’s upcoming Polo facelift has been spied testing with GT badgings. According to the spy photographer the test mule was spotted in Pune close to VW’s plant. The updated Polo will be launched alongside the refreshed Vento later this year. 

The refreshed Polo gets a different headlight design, all-new front and rear bumpers, a revised grille with chrome slats and minor changes to the tail lamps. The car will also get changes inside the cabin, but again these will be subtle and this minimal theme continues to be seen all over.  However, the big news is that VW will replace the three-cylinder 1.2-litre engine which didn’t earn it many accolades. Instead, the new Polo will now get a 1.5-litre engine which will also be used in the Vento. The same engine in Vento will make 104bhp with the Polo getting a few lesser horses. However, the Polo GT will get 104bhp and may also get the six-speed DSG transmission.

The car gets one of the last updates before the all-new Polo based on VW’s MQB platform is out. The minimalistic updates could be to save costs. In India, the updated Polo will be sold in petrol and diesel variants. It would be interesting to see if VW launches all variants of the Polo at one go or introduces the GT models a few months later.
