Where are the LPG Stations that Maruti had promised? Even with the CNG in Delhi there was better coordination. Its ubsurd to think of possessing a car with LPG but not knowing where to fill the gas from. The front head room is great for taller people like myself. The availability of spares, their cost & the opportunities for resale are higher than the Santro Xing BSIII.LPG would offset the rising fuel costsFront leg room & Shape of the car is a put off

I have bought a wagon r duo in oct 2010 even though i know that the model has been relaunced after being phased out. What made me make this decision? I have a daily car usage of around 60 km and after calculating the per km cost of petrol , diesel and lpg i found that lpg @ 33.75/ lit an average of 15 Km  comes to around Rs 2.25/ Km , Diesel  @ 43/lit and average of 19/lit to Rs 2.26/Km , and petrol @ 54/lit and fuel average of 19 would be Rs 2.84/ Km. That convinced me to go for the lpg model.

My budget was 3.5 to 4 lacs and looking at the options indica dls would have come to around 3.9 lacs , and new wagon r for 4 lacs.I hate diesel cars because of the poor pickup , noise and tata cars have some of the worst interior quality.diesel car would be high on maintenance and my children get uncomfortable with the diesel smell. That effectively ruled out the indica option.

Maruti has given good discount of 40000/- on the wagon r duo and with an on road price after discount  of Rs 372000/- including insurance and road taxes in aurangabad maharashtra and running cost less then petrol my option was clear.I got my car from Automotive Aurangabad and I am satisfied with their service and the fast paper work to complete formalities so that I could take possession of car on dussera day.

I looked at other LPG options and test drove all of them here is my view.

Santro Eco Drive was as comfortable as wagon r duo but pickup from 2nd to 3rd gear in lpg mode was slightly less compared to wagon r duo. price was around 420000/- and I had no reason to pay more when i had a better performance car.Maruti spares price  and service is anyway unmatched till date.

Spark LPG Car looks very small from the outside but roomy inside.performance very good but then i don't know the long term cost of ownership since there are very few spark lpg on road i have not read many reviews of the spark lpg.spares must be costly too and resale value i guess will be unknown.

Indica Xeta LPG As i have told earlier tata cars have very very poor interiors with lots of cheap plastic , ugly wiring ( there are bare electrical wires visible below the steering wheel ). tata should learn that it is not only price that matters but asethetics too. any discerning car buyer would best avoid the tata stable.performance wise nothing to write home about.

In the diwali holidays  i took my wagon r on a 500 kn trip with the family. Got an average of around 17 km/ lit of lpg.I drove the entire trip on lpg and aound 50km on petrol as the lpg got empty. On a highway and in cruise mode lpg is really smooth and you do not notice any perfromance degradation. Normally in my city drive also I never use the petrol mode and always keep the button on lpg. With the AC on and when i slow down to around 30km the engine slightly falters but who cares when you are saving money running on lpg.

Till date I have done around 1500 km and will add more to this review after I cross 5000 km.

For the new owner of the duo here are some tips. When you start the car it does on petrol by default even though the switch is on lpg. the bottom light blinks yellow which shows that it is on auto mode. If you do not raise the engine rpm it will continue to run on petrol. So if you quickly want to shift to lpg , press the clutch and rev the engine a little. there is a audible click and the light goes from blinking yellow to steady yellow. This means the car is now running on lpg.If you want to run the car on petrol press the switch to petrol mode.the light is steady red which means it is now running on petrol.

A good driving tip for high average would be do not run the car in lower gears.Go as quickly as possible to higher gears.when you are driving on the highway do not hold the accelerator pedal to a single position.keep pressing and releasing the pedal. Also a good way to avoid clucth and brakes is to anticipate a turn , a speed breaker , traffic signals from a distance and release the accelerator pedal so that when you come to that teh car has already slowed down. This would save a lot of fuel and keep the average high.

you can write to me on my mail id and i will respond to all your mails.

exterior looks , compact features , good head room , easy to get in and get out , good fuel economyless boot space , distance between pedal and floor.shoes jam between the pedal and floor

i feel so sad to let you guys know that Wagon R duo proved to be a failure for me.I am a hassled guy having bought your wagon R Duo with my hard earned money 4 months back.It just refuses to work on LPG now after running for 7500 kms.Went to 2 different maruti dealers on 7 occasions but now they too have given up.Their last words were - even we cant figure out whats wrong. And what more i confirmed the same problem with three more wagon R users.I bought this car to save money and ended up loosing peace of mind as well as money, both.I have sweared to sell it off at the first possible chance and buy some other brand.

I'd certainly not recommend this car if u r thinking of a hassle free alternative fuel car.

good looks, good manouverability, intelligent facia.very weak metal body, trouble running on LPG.

I have bought the wagon R duo last month, its good for value.I  travelled long trip 850 km with LPG without a/c, nice to ride smoothly and good leg room for height people.for small family its good, for city ride is very smooth and nice to park whereever you want.if you want to sit 5 people its not comfort, try other vehicle.compare to alto, santro its better.

When comparing with your opinion about the fuel consumption i.e. 17 km per litre my car is giving only 11 km per litre of gas(with Airconditioning) in highway and the speed is between 60 to 80km and the number of persons in my car is five. So, I would like to konw what was the standard followed by you in getting the mileage of 17km per litre.Good Style, Elegant and more comfortFuel economy not satisfactory, less accomodative

when we compare this to Santro - if feel santro has a better build quality (esp the gear box).

LPG - has issues in when your are at lower speeds (not sure this if my car alone - service guys did not do much).

Mileage perspective in city traffic its about 9.5 and highways its about 12.5 with LPG...

Since LPG is about Rs 28. its about 3 Rs per KM... and the break even compared to petrol is after driving for about 20,000 KM (so if you drive a lot - then makes money sense - if you are looking to have a fun car this  is not it).

Spares are inexpensiveBuild qulaity is poor, mileage is not consistent, issues with LPG

I had this LXI Duo wagon R in November 2010. In starting I did not drive it more. In Five years it was driven 32000 km. But from 2016 I am driving it on an average of 2000 km per month. It is fuel efficient and runs economical on LPG. I commute daily 90 km with it having an average speed of 70 KMPH. It is comfortable in driving and upright driver seat is an advantage. It has an upright position and look. The servicing is not too costly and maintenance price is not so high. Maintenance is lower than other companies cars. The main advantage is its standtall look, and high driving seat and looks, alongwith fuel efficiency on LPG. Disadvantage is lack of safety features like airbags, and it's a bit less comfortable for long drives, although I drove it to around 300 km in one run. Overall it's a nice car I have driven it nearly 1,10000 km and still it is a performer. I am very much satisfied with the experience of ownership of this car.

I WILL NEVER AGREE WITH THE REVIEWS OF THOSE WHO SAY THE CAR HAS ANY PROBLEM, IT MAYBE IN A PARTICULAR PIECE OR SO..MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CAR IS FANTASTIC.tHE CAR RUNS VERY SMOOTH ON PETROL AS WELL AS LPG.INITIALLY THERE WERE A FEW HITCHES RUNNING ON LPG AS I FELT LESS PULLING POWER BUT AFTER THE FIRST SERVICE THE CAR TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT...IT WAS BUBBLING WITH POWER, I DROVE 350KMS STREIGHT UPHILL TO PITHORAGARH FROM MEERUT ON LPG AND WAS SURPRISED WITH THE KIND OF PICKUP AND POWER ON LPG.

OVERALL A FANTASTIC BUY AND VALUE FOR MONEY.

IF ONLY THE SPARE WHEEL COULD BE ACCOMMODATED BY MARUTI BETTER, COS I ALWAYS FEEL LACK OF BOOT SPACE COS OF THAT OTHERWISE PERFORMANCE WISE A GREAT CAR.

great fuel economy on lpg, runs approx 280+ on lpginteriors need to be improved & powerwindows should be provided in this cost

The car has overall good exteriors with attractive tail lamps, bright headlamps, distinctive roof rails but I personally feel if the wheel size would have been a bit bigger to suit its tall boy design.

The dash board looks very ordinary and almost poor as compared to Hyundai i10 or Ritz. The rear seat is not very comfortable though the front seats have excellent leg space, stapney is poorly placed and takes a lot of space in luggage space making it very small which is because of LPG kit obviously. Door pockets in all 4 dors add to convenience and seat belts for all passengers add to safety. The RPM meter would have added more style to instrument panel. Also the vehicle is not good to accomodate 5 persons comfortably.

Engine delivers a very smooth driving experience, steering never goes spongy and I'd like to call it a silky smooth driving. Gear shifting is not good and I am facing continuous problems with reverse gear. Feul economy that I received yet is not more than 10 kmpl in LPG with AC. The petrol adds 2 more kms to the same. Not using the AC makes the difference again with 2 kms of addition in mileage. Car starts giving jerks after 2500-3000 kms of driving, in LPG mode. Engine also goes too dull with 5 persons and AC on.

Ride quality is good and smoothness in case of frequent services is good. Driving in city conditions is excellent experience as the car seems to glide even in the intense traffic. Over all comfort level is average.

Thus investment in Wagon R Duo LXi is not a bad deal. Rather its a deal with true value for money if you are not expecting something really great. But the above mentioned points are also to be considered before making the purchase decision. There are better options in Maruti itself is you increase your budget slightly.

Maruti needs to work on the problem with LPG kit and styling of interiors which definitely have a good scope of improvement. Stapney better be mounted more thoughtfully and in the last, the gear shifting should also not be failed to made smooth. HAPPY DRIVING, HAPPY BUYING!!!😊

AC is efficient, responsive steering, smooth drivingpoor stability in sharp turns, LPG kit problems, poor gear shift, uncomfortable rear seats

      Hi Friends,

This is Nishant. I am driving the Wagon R Duo Lxi from last 1.5 years. The car is very good in terms of looks, performance, milage. I got 12km/lit in petrol & 20km/lit in LPG. But my only concern for my car is that there is a slight vibration on lower the gears. In terms of we have experienced like tyre wobbling. This is only draw back for this car becuase of its tall boy looks. Otherwise this car is very good.

      Thanks & regards,

      Nishant Bhoi
